opinion on how to avoid boredom?

hi there, need some advice about boredom.
first of all, I gotta say I just love this game! and it's hard for me to stay away.

I'm in the game for the stories and the way everything looks(enough to say that I dont try to cancel animation) , pve not pvp. i've being playing mostly quests till I was lvl 50 (zone quests and some guilds)
and then I decided to grind my character (a magicka dragonknight)on dungeons, to reach cp 160, so I wouldn't need to worry anymore about leveling out of my gear's lvl and so I could craft peacefully.

I'm about cp 130 and the problem is that I'm kinda bored with the character now and it's abilities.

did anyone encounter that and have any tips?

I've worked too hard just to abandon my dragonknight and start over...

I started trying out different skills. My warden now feels like a whirlwind barbarian from D3..

First I feared investing skillpoints anywhere and changing up my skills, but now I can see that it breaks up automatisms and it feels great!

I also play Pve and story mode.

Make another char, its easy. Dont abandon your current one, you can always get back to it.
Or respec to stamina DK, and use different abilities, try different weapon setups.

by skills you mean weapons (I use staves on both my main and backup weapon).

    or class skills?

Use different skills. If you are playing meta, then try get better (once you hit 160). You play as a tank or?

    I also have a ward.
and thinking of making a sorcerer... (I like the magic part better).

don't even mind lvling up a character, it's nice and refreshing.
just wish I could avoid wasting so much time on trying to workout a good outfit from all my loot and drops, and like a couple days later to switch it because it's not my lvl anymore

    dps.
don't think I'm that good, so it's an easier role.
thought about switching the role a bit for a tank, thnx, maybe that is a good idea. . but I'm doing dungeons just to lvl up faster (most times the group gets to fast ahead so I can't listen to the story).

I’d try rolling another character, a different class, race, zone entirely. You don’t have to abandon your DK.

That way you’d have the option of playing through a new storyline in a different environment. Think of it as a holiday away from your normal gameplay.

Alternatively, just ignore your CP number and ditch the idea of a ‘grind’ (the single most pernicious element of gamethink). If you don’t enjoy doing dungeons then don’t do them (or do fewer of them). Eat a pile of CP scrolls and just play those elements of the game you enjoy, you can get a stupid amount of XP doing crafting writs for instance. Or try something you haven’t done before. Explore a new zone. Have fun.

There is no magic gamechanging thing that happens when you hit CP 160 (although the gear cap is nice). If you’ve been bored on the way, chances are you’ll continue to be bored at 160 and beyond. Your CP number isn’t going to save you. The single biggest mistake you could make on a first character is rushing all the way to CP 160 without enjoying the game, sacrificing the elements you enjoy for the sake of a few quick CP. The game is what it is, there’s lots to enjoy, take it easy, have fun.

I went through the same thing with my templar.
He started out as a stam dps, then he became a tank, then a healer and lastly I settled for mag dps. :D

thnx for taking the time to write that long.
I wanted to reach the gear cap so I'd avoid long long minutes of trying to figure out which part of each set I can use and stuff.
but I guess there's no running away from that.

I actually made another character just to get to the same lvl of a friend I'm playing with, and it did feel like a holiday from my DK.

so that's actually sounds better in my head now
    you helped a lot!

    Sounds like a grind burnout.

Go back to questing. Those last 30 points wont take long doing quests and the stuff you like. If you dont want to advance on the story while under cp160 then do dailies and some fishing to get over the burnout.

I completely understand why you're attached to the character so I don't wanna stress the 'roll a new one' suggestion too much... But you gotta ask yourself, what makes you wanna play a character? If you're struggling to get into it right now, forcing yourself to stick with it will do nothing at best, and at worst ruin the character for you. As others have said, you don't need to abandon it. Just check out something else to feel the contrast and maybe find out what it is you like about each of those characters. Taking a break from the DK might help you miss it and get you hyped to play it again -- sometimes that's all it takes!
And if you don't wanna go back to the DK cause you enjoy the new character more? Well, then you don't. Then you've found something to do that you enjoy. And in the end, that's the only way to kill the boredom -- to find something you enjoy.
That said, if you're already bored of content...ask yourself why. What is it you liked, and what is it that's missing now? I absolutely don't want to force any playstyle/game aspect onto you; but if you're bored, then it's always an option to step out of your comfort zone and try to do some stuff you didn't think you'd like.

I do think it would be a good idea to hit CP160 first if you're feeling up for it. It just makes the whole gear thing so much easier. But if the grind is too much for you, then don't do that. You'll run through 1-50 on any new character anyway and can hit the CP160 on that one then.

But yeah, if it's all about you enjoying the game and getting excitement again, then you gotta say eff it to everything else and just mess around with new stuff to find something to draw you back in. I totally understand why your attachments and the work put in would make it difficult, but do you think that'll get you where you wanna be? One thing I can almost guarantee you is that even if you were to ditch the DK for now... you WILL come back for it eventually.

If you get bored with the game I suggest what Yoshida San himself suggests for FFXIV players - play another game for a bit, dont get burned out, come back a bit later.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

thnx, it really made sense to me what you said.
I think I'll reach cp 160 just for the gear cap for now.
and start another character just to make the DK jealous 😜
and then I'll go back to him when I'll miss him

What use to keep my boredom away was trying tanking and healing in pve. Not only does it help boredom but if you are more of a dungeon/trial pve'er you will find you will become better at positioning yourself as a dps since youve been on the other end of things.

if you don't mind leveling, make lots of alts. it's what i did, variety keeps my interest. eventually you'll get them all to cp level. ;)

about the outfit: use the outfit system! it is independent from the gear you're wearing! :) so you could be lvl 3 in gear and already have a cool outfit. remember to learn new styles on your main crafter tho! they are unlocked account-wide but you'll want them for master writs later on.

Make alts. But since your only 30 cp away from gear cap finish it. It would literally take you like an hour or less if you grind dolmens or zombies. Even less if you use xp pots or scrolls.

Conversely you could respec your character to Stam or mag whichever it isn’t which will definitely change your play style.

Get to CP160, farm gear to make your build complete.
That should keep you occupied a couple weeks or months.

Besides that you can practice different roles, tanking is pretty easy if you know the boss mechanics.

Theory craft ways to break the game is my advice, on my dragonknight ive solo'd Vhrc's last boss (non hm) with a 64k hp build back in 2018, solo'd the first 2 bosses of vbrp (granted I wasn't the first), made a heavy attack dk build that does over 140k burst to players (and gets buffed next patch), made my dk a healer that instagib's ult stacking zergs and while saving my team and burst heals via lobbing rocks at people, and much much much more over my 6 years in playing JUST my dk alone. My man if you are bored at 130 cp then you simply are not looking hard enough for what content in eso actually is.

Been MMOing for well over 20 years and I feel your pain. Your problem is easy to identify. You were doing what loved and switched to try and burn levels fast. Any game you play, when you play to level and not to do what you enjoy. You will burn out. Go back to the things you love and rotate the things you need to do in short stints. Burning levels only brings short satisfaction.

It does seem a shame that in-game we can reset skills and abilities, and there are Crown Store options to change appearance, buy skills and skyshards, and even change race, but there's no class change system in place. There are obviously a lot of people whose initial build failed to meet their expectations, and it would be kind on the part of ZOS to allow mid-game changes that don't expect players to roll a new character from scratch, thus losing untold hours of gameplay and character progression.

Recycling has become a watchword of our 21st Century society; please let us recycle our well-earned characters.
"So, drinking is a sacrament to Y'ffre... because it's his way of reminding us not to take things too seriously... You know how the other Elves are. Altmer have their crystal towers, and that's how they want to be — cold and perfect. And Dunmer are just like their Red Mountain — smouldering and dark. We just want to have a drink and not worry about it."

Yea starting another toon is good idea. Honestly Im not surprised that your bored. I found magDK so much fun leveling but once at CP the skill is the most monotonous of all mags...DoT-...-DoT-Spam-...Spam

Try a stam and maybe another mag. MagDK is really solid and fun but playing it 100% can def get boring.
