Possible idea for fake roll fix

at present you can set your roll as you wish in the group section in the UI my proposal is this.
once you select your roll ie DPS you are locked as a DPS this option would be selected after character creation and would be allowed to be changed once.
this will lock your roll only for Activity finder when queuing in a group of 3 or less, pre-made groups would have an option to select roll once inside the dungeon (to stop fake queuing and having a member drop out).

    Ridiculous. You can play all roles quite well on the same character with proper adjustments to gear, skills and CP allocation. The problem was never that. It is the fact that people queue as a role with no intention of playing the part.

    So am I. Umm, what is the point of the post?

    I have a Templar that has been a dd and is now a tank. She will probably be my first healer as well. Why should I not be allowed to change roles whenever I want?

    How? Did you not propose locking a character to a specific role, so that you can only ever change it once? Your solution would affect 100% of players to solve a problem caused by a minority, and wouldn't even address players who simply don't know how to play their roles or expect a carry. Like killing an ant with a hydrogen bomb while sparing the anthill.

    We can't all be altoholics and a lot of peeps don't pop into a dungeon in a premade.

I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    No thank you. My main was originally a healer. She is currently a mag dps. But she carries healing sets with her, has a healing CP set-up, and skill setups under alpha gear so, when desired, she can swap. By limiting her role to only one of the three, she is locked out of a role that she is prepared for and able to perform.

    It would likely make the matter worse. I have gear and AG2 set ups for all of my characters to tank. I can and do tank quite frequently. What this would do is prevent those types of players from using the queue as a tank and making the shortage even worse.

    1st of all... i have few heroes with 90% of skyshards... my dk do all 3 roles easy as my nb/sorc/warden/necro/templar lol

    easier and better - make a skill req roles - healers needs resto staff ?? or healing skills equipped -> tank taunt .... etc

    While this might fix the problem, I don't think it's the right solution. And honestly there is no real good solution that ZoS can implement that would not be invasive to all players.

    I see it as the same thing when someone jumps in front of the line at a business. It's not up to the employees to fix that problem, it's up to the people who are around to address it as a group. Same thing in this situation with a fake role, it's up to the group. Either boot the person, or make a moral stand and don't play with that group.

    It's actually mostly people who don't want to wait 40 minutes per dungeon queue, since getting pledges and monster helmets are a pain in the butt and make a necessary part of builds.

    Trust me after spending 789 keys on a couple of pieces of gear I'll be like 🙄 no thanks I'm not gunna wait 40 minutes 🙄

    I got one for you, make changing your role the same as respecing your skills. Make it a fee that increases to a maximum fee after so many uses. The fee could have a decay on it as well so that it doesn't negatively affect people too badly who seldomly change their rolls.

    Something like,

    1: 100g
    2: 500g
    3: 1,000g
    4: 1,500g
    5: 2,000g
    All the way up to 10k.

    The decay could be 1 tier down each day you did not change your role.

    As EvilAutoTech points out, many of us have characters that shifted through roles over time. My Templar started as a tank, then worked on being a healer and then went back to tanking for a bit and now heals again.

    My Stamplar is a DPS, but she has tanking gear for running dungeons if I need to PUG or if my guildie who usually tanks is not around.

    My sorc and nightblade have switched between Healer and DPS several times over the years. My stam DK started as a tank and is mostly a DPS now.

    Why do you think they should be limited to one role change over their entire lifetime?

    With the idea I presented, someone like you would be nearly unaffected. If you only change your roles once in a while, it would cost you 100g each time. Less than it costs to repair after a single dungeon.

    But it would discourage those who change their roles several times a day as the cost would add up each time they change it.

    Normal content - no tank or healer is needed.
    Vet content - tank needed sometimes healer not needed.
    Vet dlc - tank needed and off healer is useful but not needed.
    Trials - tanks and heals needed.

    (when I say 'needed' I mean for max efficiency, I know they can be completed with 4 dps all the way)

    In what area are you encountering fake q'ers?

    I got one for you, make changing your role the same as respecing your skills. Make it a fee that increases to a maximum fee after so many uses. The fee could have a decay on it as well so that it doesn't negatively affect people too badly who seldomly change their rolls.

    Something like,

    2: 500g
    3: 1,000g
    4: 1,500g
    5: 2,000g
    All the way up to 10k.

    The decay could be 1 tier down each day you did not change your role.

    The game has enough gold sinks. This isn't needed at all.

I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    This would make fake tanks worse of an issue. Character creation is the absolute worst time to pick a permanent role in a game that has as much variation and ability to change skills as eso. Personally I wish class choice was made later as well.

    Anyways what you will get is people choosing tank at creation and then rolling a dps or healer build. And guess what? They wont be able to change it... imagine the drama that will cause.

    It's good that people are thinking about solutions to these things just need to refine it better.

    My personal opinion is that the GF should not include roles for normal runs at the very least but require it for vet stuff.

    As EvilAutoTech points out, many of us have characters that shifted through roles over time. My Templar started as a tank, then worked on being a healer and then went back to tanking for a bit and now heals again.

    My Stamplar is a DPS, but she has tanking gear for running dungeons if I need to PUG or if my guildie who usually tanks is not around.

    Since I quest and play the rest of the game on the same few character the majority of the time, it's quite normal to start the day as a DD, switch to tank for the pledges, then back again, or PvP. On rare occasions I'll do some again or an arena. I already pay 6200(?) gold between CP and stats.

    For non-DLC pledges I don't think that it's really necessary all of the time to make those changes, but I'm normally more interested in the DLC. Anything that restricted my ability to change, as if what I already doesn't already discourage this, I would simply withdraw from the queue. The net result would simply be one less tank in the queue. One less real tank.

    For experienced players, the quoted stands true. For newer players, not so much. Those who aren't at 160, or those who aren't CP capped might not be ready for dropping tanks or healers for additional DPS. Shoot, I know some players who are CP capped who ready for that either.
