How long should someone be banned for their first toon name offense?

Many of my friends have recently been victims of being suspended because of their toon names. Removing good people from the game is problematic, especially considering the number of toxic players. I believe these people are being overly punished while bots, cheaters, and trolls are not targeted. How long do you feel is a fair amount of suspension time for a first ban, and explain why you chose your answer.

I see the option Toon names shouldn't matter in a game for adults as a pick.

    its quite the opposite actually....

its because its a adult game, that we should be hold accountable for what we call our toons, we have a responsibility to show respect for other players by not calling our toons for something that can go against the ToS of the game, especially if it resolves around, politics, religion and such.

some names stir up to much feelings in others, that they dont belong in a game

Incorrect. As a customer you deserve fair treatment. ZOS is nothing without us. We make the company what it is. Our cash finances ZOS. ZOS need to be more courteous to those who are paying for this service. Without your money, they would not be able to create new jobs. The company would fall apart. Just like with government, we the people ultimately hold the power. You have a voice, use it! Remember, this company can not thrive without us, the customers. Money does not fall from the sky or grow on trees. We made this company successful with our money. We can just as easily take it away.

    Until hell freezes over!

...but, seriously, it really would depend what they have called them.

Could be not at all, for something fairly mild, could be a few hours/days, or even longer (permanently?) for something extremely unpleasant.

Especially if, in the latter case, their name choice suggests they may well be a danger to others (children, for example), in more serious, real world, ways.

I mean, that would (typically) be fairly rare, but you get what I mean...

and especially if on the very first toon they make,
they deliberately subvert the TOS by making an offensive name...

Where's the permaban poll option? They shouldn't even be allowed to continue playing the game if from the very start they just want to troll.

Why are you concerned with another adults choice of their character name? It saddens me that adults feed off of hatred and trolling others. Anyone who takes the time to harass another player because of their toon name really needs to get a life. You have too much free time on your hands. Worry about your own matters and let players enjoy the game!

Who cares, you can pick quite a lot from their name in games.

Most often people who copy stuff from popular series etc. or just stupid names, are also not so bright and good players.

Where is the option to select disgusted under your post? It's certainly not awesome, insightful, or agreeable. You are simply showing your true self - a hateful troll that feeds off of others misfortune. I hope someone treats you as you'd like to treat others.

Do you feel the same about television shows for adults? Should they all be sensored as not to offend someone? Do you not think causing a good person to have their account suspended is not offensive to them and those that care about them?

that's different, and an example of it

My example cant be used since forum censorship, censor it.

    so writing it differently

in tv shows, about historical events as example, the names belong to them so people know what to expect, seeing them in a game where they dont belong, is only to aggravate and stir up emotions (trouble) towards others, dont belong there

I doubt people are getting banned merely for their choice of character names. I have know player who have had some very offensive names and some who has mildly offensive names. None of them were ever banned which means OP is leaving much out of their story. Granted, OP's friends may not be telling them the entire story either.

Beyond that, Zos will pretty much ignore the results of the poll because they will be much more aware of what really happened vs what is being presented here. I doubt this poll lasts long anyhow, for obvious reasons.

BTW, a person who may or may not be one of the friends you speak of started a poll about 24 hours ago started a thread about their ban because of the names of two characters. They ended up explaining there was more to the story, that when they were originally told to rename the characters they merely did a twist of the name. That is basically telling Zos to shove it. If Zos banned them for a period of time for such a dumb move then good.
Why are you concerned with another adults choice of their character name? It saddens me that adults feed off of hatred and trolling others. This is not an adult game. In EU it is rated adult but in the US it is rated mature which is below adult. Beyond that it is the people who choose truly offensive name that need to get a life. Over the years I have seen some pretty bad names. The people who chose them are probably getting a sick laugh but in the end I end up getting the laugh knowing they will be forced to change it.

Edit: I did not select a poll option because there was not a time frame long enough. 72 Hours is a joke as we know there is more to the story what OP is stating. No one got banned merely because of a name. Zos tells players to change the name when it is deemed inappropriate or not permitted for other reasons.

If they were edgelords, permanent for all I care, as the fewer of those igits the better.
If not, meh, depends on the name. If it was something slightly crass, eh, a day at most? If it was a slur or otherwise insulting towards someone’s race/ethnicity, gender/gender identity, religion, orientation; right back to the edgelord answer.

This is also An RPG. There are so many names to choose from or to create

A number of states do not consider a person an adult until age 18.

Further, that is also irrelevant as Zos has the right and responsibility to create an atmosphere that is hospitable. That includes deciding if they do not want to permit certain types of character names in the game. I have seen some players with pretty dumb names that are very adult and are forced to change them.

Granted, none of those players were banned which is why I say the full story is not posted in the OP.

    Not a really good example.

Stations licensed by the FCC are required to sensor what is broadcast. Airing obscene programming at any time is a violation of the law. Indecent or profane shows are restricted to certain times. Similar restrictions apply to voice communications radio frequencies and the federal government can and will fine those who violate the applicable laws.

Outside of federally licensed broadcast channels each company that has a cable/satellite or even internet broadcast system has their own guidelines in place and will tell those whose programs they publish what is not appropriate.

In the latter cases it is a business decision must like what Zos makes concerning character names.

I always report offensive names, no excuse. You know it's against the tos, you know you're being a jerk, you deserve that game change slap to the face. As for now long this suspension should be, it's such a minor offense that I would probably just put them all off for 3 days, from Friday to Sunday, so they lose just one weekend of game time. No need for more than that in a first run. Second time onwards though... You're just being a full blown jerk, so I can't really say I feel sorry for them...

I stated earlier that there is more to the story than what is posted in the OP.

Yesterday a person created a thread trying to get their ban reversed. They "claimed" they were banned because they had some characters had names Zos did not want in game. Later that player admitted when they changed the name that they only made small changes to the names. Essentially keeping the offensive name.

While I still doubted that was the full story they told Zos what they thought of being forced to change their names and then it seems Zos showed them who was really boss.

Heck, considering the date the OP of this thread joined the forums it just might be them trying to sound like more players are asking about the same ban issues. Granted, we have no way to know for sure. Zos could probably find out if needed.

Ugh... I've already said I have a friend who was just asked to change their name and not able to login to that specific character until it was changed. You must have done something more to get banned.

That said, I detest Bootlickers and there should be no Forced Name Changes!

    Justice for my friend! lol
