Here is why they are going for a gothic theme not just vampires. Also they are trying to not do to much Skyrim nostalgia. They are trying to avoid making it seem like Skyrim 2.0 but doing their own thing with it. Plus other factors as well Rich mentioned the mysterious parchment had the various locations where the Witches are causing the Harrowstorms. The black marker being the entrance to Black Reach. That was in the German stream where he spoke in english while the germans were translating for their german audience. Then there is the dlc Icereach which deals exclusively with Witches and a mysterious storm.
I do think the major big start of the Year of the Witch will be with the Icereach Dungeon and I do recommend playing the Prologue as well because its just as interesting I won't spoil it.
It makes sense Vampires might sell more then Witches which might why they are hyping the vampire element. But I do think the main focus will be stopping the Witches and what they are plotting in the Greymoor chapter.

I absolutely do not get this impression.
If witches were going to play a bigger role than vampires, I see literally 0 reason why the reveal trailer played so much on the vampire aspect. You could say marketing, sure, but all of their other trailers usually detail the big-bad-boss dude.
I just find it pretty silly to think this year is going to be the year of anything other than vampires, given the evidence thus far.

They confirmed it in today's live stream I watched it so I was pretty much right on the ball basically. The Icereach Witches will be involved for the Entire Years Story line. Icereach dungeon will set the tone for the entire year storyline going by what they said as well.
So they are in fact going to be the main big bad. That aligns with the prologue which they kinda revealed as well as having them involved with it. I will have to say they were right since I played it but I won't go into spoilers other then yes its a witch thing. So yes its the Year of the Witch. Storyline will likely be about stopping the Icereach Coven. Since they are the main bad and will be involved for the entire year.

Nope. I refuse to believe the Witches are going to be the main big-bad of this year until proven otherwise. Feel free to prove me wrong by providing the exact clip and timestamp of them saying the Witches are going to be the over-all main threat of the chapter.
The main advertisements for the chapter mention nothing about a witch threat, only the vampire lord.
Witches will certainly be involved, but there is absolutely 0 way they'd show their hand this early by having us fight the main dudes of the chapter already.....lol. Kinda how there were no dragons in the first dungeons of the year last year.

They hinted that Q4 will involve the Reach, so I think it's a little too soon to say with certainty who the Big Bad of the entire year is going to be. There is too much yet to be revealed.
We need to wait and see instead of poking around in the dark.

I'm not even sure how long that is.
