Magic shields should act like blocking and drain magica

Shield spamming is still a thing and to be honest it’s a very cheesy thing. Stam classes have to either dodge or block in order to mitigate or avoid damage where shields just soak the damage until you need to reapply it for a small cost compared to blocking( if your not a s&b tank)

In my opinion magic users should have to rely on the same damage mitigating mechanics as stam. Your damage shields should all be toggle and you don’t take damage as long as you have the magic to keep it up. Taking hits should drain that magic to the point where your drained if your not actively trying to avoid damage.

Shields already have to be recast every couple seconds so its quite a resource drain, there's also a cast time and limited amount the shield absorbs. Adding a magicka drain factor on top of that would be way too much.

If dmg shields would work like Wards in Skyrim that you need to hold it would basically be a magicka version of normal blocking. This doesnt make dmg shields viable for magicka builds in PVE.

Maybe blocking with a dmg shield active could increase shield mitigation and drain magicka instead of stamina. That would mean a total revamp of all dmg shields though, especially DK tanks would be impacted by such a change.

Dodging costs more than a shield? Stam users have recovery just like Mag players do. You try putting up a 4K skill every 6 seconds ... oh and if we stack 2 shields its 8K every 6 seconds. Give me a break!

Your shields can block multiple attacks and your 8k mag over 6 seconds is nothing. If have 2k mag recovery you have recovered that mag and then some

Please show me a screenshot of a build that has 15+ shields AND 2k magicka recovery.

Nope (And I main stam). I refuse to call for nerfs.

Yup, my mantra for years now...buffs ppl buffs, I am really disliking ZoS's stance on creating balance by lowering the ceiling, instead of raising the floor.

    This one comes pretty close:

With the ult up it's close to 60K mag and shields are around 14K to the best of my recollection. There's room to push for some more with Bastion and the monster set and still hit 2K mag regen.

Saying that you only shield or shield stack every 6 seconds is a complete fallacy. That 14K shield won't usually be torn down in a single GCD by a single player, but that's about it. When they're on attack it's gone within 2 GCDs. That means you had one second to do something else, such as apply a buff or go on the attack yourself.

By the way, this is not a character I play a lot. Even if magicka stacking is the obvious choice for magden, it's not really a finished build, due to the lack of a reliable CC and execute. I find that, as soon as you incorporate, for example, a Master staff for either the CC or the AOE, you start compromising on magicka and, hence, the shield size.

No no it can’t. Not if you actually want to kill your opponent
