So if a passive skill in the armor skill line that affect "melee damage", does that affect Bow? In other words, is Bow a melee damage?

I'd like to say no but apparently the damage bows do is considered melee so... maybe yes?

You could always try it and tell us what you find.

I think so but best way is for you to test in game with an add on to calc

That's what I initially though. However, if you look at the Kajiit's passive "Carnage", the description says it affects melee attack but according to this list under abilities and triats (http://dulfy.net/2014/03/20/eso-reddit-ama-summmary/) that the passive does NOT affect bow is a BUG (I remember an interview with a developer mention this bug but I couldn't find the article just yet. Will link to it if I find it). That basically means Carnage affects bow as well and the description says melee attack. IMHO, there's no clear indication for melee attack what affects bow and what not. When the description says physical attack, for sure it'll affect bow.

he game doesn't differentiate between melee and raged. Just magicka and stamina based attacks.

The mechanics of this game seem / are really messed up when you get into them.

Attacks are either physical or magical.
Carnage says melee crit, but it does affect bow attacks, so carnage really should say physical crit.

But if carnage is physical, that means it shouldn't affect class abilities since they are magical.

However, if a class ability is a melee attack, then it is treated like a physical attack even though it does magical damage, but the damage of these physically magical or magic physical attacks is based off spell power and max magicka not weapon damage.

The only time a magical attack gains an increase in magic damage from an increase in weapon damage is if you have the "Master Assassin" passive, which grants a 10% increase to weapon damage when crouched or invisible. This bonus somehow increases the damage on the magic melee attacks even though it's only increasing weapon damage....
