How to pick a good alliance in Cyrodil?

I just logged in with my main on EU PS4 and AD only had the 2 starting cities. For real? I have to run across the entire map for the scouting mission?

Yeah, this makes it even more fun to get the tickets!

====

Though then I went in on my Nord and yellow had most of the map. I thought it was the same zone, but it appears not. I just want to do the scouting mission....

Now I am jumping around so I can get to one where the scouting mission is not in the distant area of enemy controlled territory. I can handle some, but all the map?

Pick the one with guild mates on it.

The map shifts around all day, if all you want is to get a scout quest done then check the extra servers they put in for a low population of the other two teams. All factions are equally great and terrible in their own way, especially since some people change their faction regularly.

It’s really the same people in different color dresses.

You likely logged into a different campaign on your Nord?

The scouting mission locations versus how much of the map your faction controls is a bit of luck. I always recommend choosing the campaign with the smallest population of players showing and use a max stamina rider. When you stay off the roads, even though it can be a long ride, you can usually get there all right. Do the report, then skip the long ride back by dying to the most convenient thing you can find. Revive at your starter gate and wayshrine outta Cyrodiil.

I thought it was the same campaign, but I realized I was wrong. Going in with my High Elf made the quest trivial and over quickly.

That seems quite imbalanced, but I guess the goal is to shop until you find one that looks best. The same quest can be completed on any map it seems.

    At least today is done.

Note that all the ones I saw were no "bars" or 1 "bar" at most, so all were low pop. (PS4 EU)

I will be doing PS4 NA next, but I will pick whatever faction has the most control. It looks like only the one at the top is faction locked and I think I have at least 1 character of each alliance on each megaserver. (Though I definitely favor High Elves and Kitty Cats for my characters.)

A related question: Will I start in the same place if I logout while in the campaign? I.E. can I position myself for the next day's quest when I know that the objective can be reached?

Though I guess I could just grab the objective and wait to turn it in until the next day, right?

Hopefully someone more experienced than me can answer this. I mostly PvE. I’ve only been in Cyrodiil for the previous Mayhem, and more recently while working on skyshard achievement. I found logging out of Cyrodiil to be... not consistent. Some nights, I’d log out inside a delve. The next day was a 50/50 roll of the dice if I’d log in at the entrance of that delve (to continue my skyshard journey) or back to the PvE map I had been on before diving into Cyrodiil.

Also, those daily boards seem to be on a timer. I went to the medieval faire this weekend, so around 10:30pm Eastern on Thursday, I ran a scouting mission and turned it in. No, you could not pick up another scouting mission to pre-run it (like how you can double up on daily crafting writs). I logged back in (last chance before faire!) around 6:00pm Friday night... dumbly thinking the Cyrodiil daily boards would be on the same timer as crafting dailies. Nope. Couldn’t grab a scouting mission.

Unsurprisingly, I had a scouting mission to pick up tonight now that real life put 2+ days’ distance between missions. LOL

I’ve found that you’ll normally be kicked out but sometimes stay in.

I think it depends on whether people are queued up to get in. There have been times where my faction said it was pop locked and full but was a ghost town, I’m guessing it counts you as being in the campaign if you log out inside but kicks you if someone else wants to get in and they take your spot.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

If you log out in a Cyrodiil campaign & the population approaches the cap, you get kicked back to the last PVE location your character was in. If the pop does not reach the cap you will stay in Cyrodiil... errr... i think that's how it works :D

Yes, that's exactly how it works. You won't get kicked as long as people don't need to queue for that campaign. If they do you'll spawn right where you were when you accepted to go to Cyro.

PS: OP, Cyro is not meant for pvers to get their scouting mission done. If you had bad luck with the map then deal with it.
Should i remind you that pvpers have to do a lot of pve content too?

Most of my scouting missions have always been like that-- all the way on the other side of Cyrodiil, as far from home base as you can go. Once in a blue moon I'll get one that's close to home base, but that's rare.

If you're lucky, your alliance will control a keep that's very close to your objective and-- this is the important part-- there's an unbroken string of connected keeps all the way to that keep which is very close to your objective, such that you can port to it via the transitus shrine.

More likely, you'll be able to port only halfway to your objective, or maybe even less than that, and have to ride, run, or sneak the rest of the way.

Getting back is easier, because you can either (1) deliberately let yourself get killed so you can rez back at home base, or (2) queue for a campaign in the Imperial City, which takes you to your home base in the sewers, then immediately queue for the campaign where you had your scouting mission in Cyrodiil, which takes you to your home base in Cyrodiil.

If you're just trying to grab your tickets in a hurry and then leave Cyrodiil, scouting missions can be a pain.

But if you have the time, it can actually be fun to do scouting missions, even if there are no friendly keeps anywhere and you have to travel all the way across Cyrodiil on your own. If you're playing at night-- that is, nighttime in Cyrodiil-- it can be very peaceful to go creeping across country listening to the owls.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

@FlopsyPrince scout quests are pretty ineffective when it comes to AP. Or rate of return when it comes to event boxes.

If you do the town quests you can get ten in the same area.

Also if you do the 6 Imperial City dailies (PvE) you get 6 quickly in the base and siege merits too.

Regardless picking your alliance for map control isn't the best way. Also you can see who has the map but the number of keeps they control before you enter it.

For the OP, this is all fluid.

AD only controlling a few towns at that one time isn't indicative of them all the time and on every Cyrodiil map.

You can always see the map for own home compaign at any time. Only go in when it's all your colour if you like. Or queue for other campaigns and see if their maps are more to your liking.

I would not recommend town quests over scouting ones.

If you're horse if fully trained, riding from one end of the map to the other only takes a few minutes. Press E to write scout report. Remove clothes. Run into the nearby group of enemy guards. Respawn at alliance base. Turn in quest.

REMEMBER TO RE-EQUIP CLOTHES. I keep forgetting. I swear I probably did about half of Cyrodiil's dungeons and town content completely naked with my necromancer.

Town quests are often camped by gankers. Cos everyone knows where town quests are.

No-one but you knows where your scouting missions are.

In terms of alliance skill xp and AP I think scouting missions work out better than town ones.

    Pick mine

    :#

added - I disagree with the above IF your only reason for being there is to get your tickets

AD - both towns, west and east sides have their NPC quest giver outside. You don't have to go through a door and find out you are dead after the cutscreen from a ganker inside the building. All you have to do is ONE quest - you get your tickets and you can leave.

When you are looking for a campaign, just scroll through them no cp, yes cp, DOESN't MATTER. Look for one where your Faction has more bars than the others do. When you pop in, take a good look at the transitus. If neither town is available, Leave. Go back to your home city, then look for a different campaign. You can enter any campaign. You can enter and leave every campaign in succession if you want. Find a campaign that the town you are going to looks reasonably secure, with your faction controlling castles all around the town.

If none of the campaigns looks good - log off and take a break for a while. Things change. People leave, more people come.

I've done two things every day. One - looked through campaigns, went in a checked a couple out, and went back to vulkel guard and logged off
Two - been to both towns every day and got my 9 boxes for the day.

    Just got to be adaptable

    IMHO

Best to have one character of each alliance. You never know which guild or group of friends will want to go with which alliance. Having one of each means you can always join them.
And it also means if you don't like how a particular alliance is doing on a map for your needs, you can swap to a toon of another alliance on that map. Just be careful about alliance lock.

As for scouting missions, I think they are basically always deep in enemy territory -- that's why they need you to go scout. If you don't like the excessive riding... try a town mission. Each questgiver typically has several you can choose from. If you don't like one, Abandon and try again. You can easily research them online. UESP is a good site.
And you don't actually need your alliance to hold the town in order to turn in the quest, although you might have to sneak around enemy NPCs.

There's no right or wrong alliance imho. Just pick an alliance based on your personal interest, based on the guild mates and friends you have.

As stated above, Cyro's map shifts during the day.

Scouting quest are often far from your alliance's keeps, unless the majority of the map is hold by your alliance - if that's the case it might be really quick to do.

If you want to run pve quests/shards/other pve related stuff then choose a low pop campaign.

I was finding it very difficult to find any campaign where the AD wasn't being curb stomped last night. I finally managed to complete one town daily just before the reset for my day's tickets, but it was very frustrating.

At least I could join Imperial City and then back to a different Cyrodil campaign without having to wayshrine out.

The town dailies are the easiest, if you can get to them with the Transitus Port (and they are controlled by your alliance).
