Which assistant is more worthwhile?

A recent post on whether the assistants are worth while made me think of this.

If you could only buy one, which would you get?

Personally, I thought buying the banker over the merchant was obvious, but I see others who think the opposite so I'm curious as to how the numbers break down and what the rest of players think. (At the end of the day, what makes your playtime better is most important, but I'm really interested in what others think  )

    Banker
and I think banker is better
somewhere on world there is always merchant, or traveling or just sitting somewhere
at start of trials there is also merchant
but bankers...there is noone of them anywhere besides banks in some cities

EDIT: and especially without ESO+ if you dont have chaos in your storages, bank xD bankes is better because mostly you would get much more worth to keep mats around if you are gathering than junk drops :P

I use the Merchant way more. Getting the trash items out of my bag so I can keep hunting and farming. But I do have ESO + so banking for crafting goods is never a need.

I'd say Merchant, but the more you are in endgame, especially support roles, Banker become more relevant. For everyday play you will use merchant more.

Went without banker for ages and don’t use as much as merchant. The ability to get the merchant when doing pledges is fab as then don’t have to leave.

You can dump anything into a bank to sell later. The banker can hold repair kits for you to use.

    Banker
    banker bc of writs.

merchant is useful as well but what if my inventory is full of stuff i wanna keep, e.g. to decon? or if i wanna withdraw some money for riding training or some potions etc out of town?

it is worth eventually getting both tbh.
but banker should be your priority imo.

Banker - I summon good old Tythis multiple times a day, eg on every char during their daily crafting writs. I can’t even remember the merchant’s name, that’s how little I use her.

I have always thought that banker is better by a country mile, if you don't have plus. Plus members may gain more from the merchant, I suppose. Either way, they are gold dust.

Remember, you could always have them gifted to you if you don't have the crowns, like I did.

If you have ESO+, probably banker, otherwise merchant because bank space is super low so it’s easier to toss stuff than move it around

You can find a merchant almost anywhere, even wandering the roads sometimes, but banks are a little harder to find.

    Banker
Banker for swapping gear and grabbing consumables as need. Almost forgot it is helpful for doing writs. I store consumables for writs in the banker (provisioning and alchemy). When I am doing writs I just access the banker and grab what I need fast and easy.

Just for the convenience of doing writs the banker wins hands down. However, I do enjoy having both assistants.

    I would opt for merchant.
Eso+ helps in keeping the bag clean + I don't have hamster syndrome to keep all kinds of junk, and lastly, I visit merchant way way more often than banker.

So my decision was based purely on efficiency, what I use the most, and the result is merchant in my case.

    Neither are worth it
I dont find either to be particularly worth the price. I dont find myself playing long enough or collecting enough crap to need to go back to town multiple times during a session. Nor do i tend to do activities in which i cannot stop and go back to town and return if i do happen to get full.

I typically have over 100 slots of free space and up to 150 when i leave town. I have the craft bag as well. If i really needed space and there was nothing i wanted to get rid of and i couldnt get back to town, i would just mail items to my other account for 10 gold and then retrieve them later either through trade or my guild bank.

However, the banker might become more viable later when i get more into housing as having direct access to the bank in my house would be beneficial. Overall, if i was going to buy one , excluding this reason, i would still pick the banker and use it as extra inventory space until i got back to town.

I dont find the vendor to be that useful even in town because i vendor less than 10% of my inventory typically. Whereas most of my inventory is bankable including the vendor items.

The merchant gets rid of all the stuff I'm not keeping anyway.

If I didn't have the banker, I could always just bounce mail off guildies for the stuff I want to keep/decon.

I only have the banker. I don't really miss not having a merchant, but the banker gets used pretty frequently, especially since I don't have a craft bag.

Both are classic examples of overpriced "convenience items" that are a hallmark of predatory monetization these days. What's really funny about them is that they don't even add that much convenience. Banks and merchants are everywhere.

    Banker
I find I use my banker constantly, if only for ease of passing things from one character to another. It’s even quicker than using the house storage chests, since you can summon a banker anywhere outside of PVP.

I have the merchant, but I rarely find her useful, and same with the portable fence.

    Banker
I hardly sell anything to merchants, just the junk items which have no other purpose (and there's usually only 2 or 3 kinds of those in each area, so they stack and don't take up much space) and ornate weapons and armour, and occasionally excess potions and poisons. All other equipment goes to my crafter to deconstruct and anything else I use or sell in the guild store. And if I'm going to use it, deconstruct it or sell it in the guild store it goes into the bank to be passed to the relevant character, so for me the bank is far more useful.

I don't have a banker assistant either, because I think it's too expensive for relatively minimal convinience but I'm often tempted to buy it, whereas I'd never consider the merchant worthwhile for me.

Banker is more useful, but Fezez is more adorable. No offense Ezabi, you’re totes adorbs too, but the “trade with khajiit, meeeeeow?” line gets me every time. A very important thing to consider, no doubt. :p

    Merchant for me, hands down.

That said, I spend a lot of time in delves or out in the wilds harvesting, so for me, being able to sell all the junk I find and let me keep on going works.

My bank is stuffed with things anyway, making the banker far less useful for me.

All these years and I have neither... the price is too outrageous imo. They would be nice though, so I'd say banker for quick access to my beautiful stash anywhere I am. Maybe someday I'll grab one of them...I'd have to say the new khajiit ones were pretty tempting.

Early game, merchant. Because you are likely to not have a lot of space in your bank anyway and will end up getting rid of stuff -- assuming you don't mail it to a friend who has ESO+ and let them absorb it into their crafting bag.
There's no Mailbox Assistant because, magically, you can Fedex stuff anywhere anytime through the mail interface. Even in Cyrodiil.
