Monster sets in pvp

Are they really that crucial??

Im running in my Orc Stamden, 5 pc Warriors Fury heavy (everything but head shoulders and Jewlry) and 5 pc Spriggans (3 pc Jewlery head and shoulder) and Potenates 2h and SnB seems like I just get melted even in non CP. Now I know my damage is still low and I dont have all of my gear purpled or even gold (still working on the cash for that).

Is there something Im missing to builds in this game?

    Great answer very in depth

I mean I get that Im not new to PvP in MMOs it seems like Im in heavy armor mainly with 2 pcs of medium and I get dropped faster than an ugly girl in a beauty contest, even in 1v1 is it a matter of just upping quality on gear then just working the rotation?

Everyone says get monster sets to help but other than that not sure what im doing wrong

Monster sets can be useful because you can swap them out depending on what you need - more damage, more sustain, more tankiness, more healing, etc. They are great for filling in holes in your build.

Not getting melted probably requires a combination of factors, including your positioning, proactive self-healing, crit resistances, regular resistances, and active mitigation through dodge and block. Your gear can certainly help with that, such as equipping a defensive or healing set if you need to, but none of the monster sets are going to be a cure all for getting melted.

    Yeh.

What you're missing is the extra you can squeeze from builds.

For your build, you could run.

    Neck - fury
    Rings - fury x2
    Chest - fury
    Legs - fury
    Hands - spriggans
    Belt - spriggans
    Feet - spriggans
    2h front bar - spriggans
Sword and board back bar - potantates
Head and shoulder - medium monster set

You could swap bits around and run it as a heavy build of course.

But, what you have there is the damage from spriggans is on the front bar where you need it, fury is on both bars as it'll drop of otherwise, potantates is just on your back bar where you are being most defensive and your monster set.

Even if you ran sets like fury and bone pirate for example, which you need on both bars at all times, the power you get from wearing a monster set outweighs any other bonus another set will give you (even more than potantates, willpower and agility).

Even with arena weapons, you can still run a both bar 5 piece, a monster set, a front or back bar only set (spriggans, lich etc) and then the arena weapon on opposite bar (bloodspawn, bone pirate both bar, spriggans front bar and master bow OR master flame staff, crafty alfiq both bars, buffer of the Swift back bar and mighty chudan).

what would you recomend I would do to maximize what I have until I can get access to the Monster sets, I loath the Idea of PvE but need to get gear for that haha.

Also still working through my skill line up as well haha

Well there's not much to better your build until you get monster sets.

Bloodspawn is a very good stamina set (probably the best) and the dungeon is super easy. Shoulders are easy enough to get these days too.

Deaths always come faster in NoCp. CP adds alot of survivability.

No, they aren’t that crucial. Even in pve monster sets are barely better then two 1 piece stat items.

Where they’re good is they help with burst or defense. The longer the cooldown the better (Zaan or balorgs) or Bloodspawn. Some are okay because they can save you a skill slot like Chudan on a petsorc.

I run no monster or proc sets on half my pvp builds. A lot of sets are overrated too, like bloodspawn on a light armour build.

Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

I wouldn't sweat it. Many monster sets don't provide as huge of a difference as people tend to think, to be honest.

Look at Bloodspawn for instance: it's one of the most popular stam sets in the game, and for good reason. But in some cases, your Potentates setup may actually be a better fit for you. You get 5% damage mitigation (which equates to ~3300 resistances — so slightly more than half of BS) and you miss out on the stamina & ult regen — but the uptime on the resistances is 100% .Depending on your needs, that may be more important. On the other hand, ult regen is always useful and as an Orc you may find the stam regen super helpful, which may make Bloodspawn more appealing.

Often I will just use 1 Domihaus & 1 Grothdarr for the 1k stamina/2k magicka they provide, as that is more useful to me on low max stat builds.

TL;DR: It's almost never cut & dry, in the end you'll just need to experiment for yourself.
