Out of all the Chapters this is definitely the most hollow one. Still excited for Blackreach though.
I'm Hyped for the vampire feeding changes and the changes to vampires. Vampire lord is something that will be interesting and I do want that for my volkihar vampire I created but the other changes to it I'm very hyped for.
I feel like the vampire line is cool, parhaps a little too similar to Necromancers thematically for me to get too hyped (I was never one much for Necromancers or Vampire lords, that sort of thing, personal taste).
Other than that I just dont think we where told anything, this new relic hunting mode may or may not be any more than museum collections+, or wow archeology. The single piece item sets sound interesting but until it hits the PTS it means almost nothing to me, I have no idea how this is going to fit into the current built meta when you have to sacrifice a 5pce bonus, maybe a monster set or maybe use a 3pce replacement (wait, didnt 3pce get removed...?). Until we know how they even fit into a build, or what sets bonuses they even get, I dont even know if they will be considerable.
The dungeons we saw almost nothing of, but they looked decently cool. I did however feel disappointing that we are continuing with this age old model of releases. With WoWs recent expansion hitting, we're seeing them try lots of interesting things, solo or smaller group progression content and yet another (potentially ***) new gear upgrade system. Meanwhile in ESO, we have this tired old system that even if it didnt have issues is starting to get boring.
I would have been happy if this was for a story DLC. But as a full expansion with a matching price tag? No.
A full expansion should at the very least include (in my opinion):
A new zone (with more content than any vanilla or DLC zone and multiple story quest lines. Look at Vvardenfell zone). We will have to wait and see about this one.
Some new gameplay feature (battlegrounds, jewelry crafting, etc). Antiquities fulfills this.
A new class OR a combat expansion for all characters (or both preferably but one or the other is more reasonable). We get nothing in this one.
The last one is especially important because it adds freshness and new possibilities to the core gameplay of the game—combat. And between a class or new skill lines for everybody, the new skill lines are my preference.
Given that that last one is entirely missing (remember that the vampire revamp is a base game update for free and not a chapter feature) this feels like just a large DLC and not a real chapter release.
^ But it all depends on what will be on PTS next week. So the initial reaction is: "Meh, could be better" - but if I see some good things on PTS then the impression will go up.
Not buying this expansion, too dark, this does not win my money. Will keep my ESO+ and play all the content I have not played. Only been here 7 months. Next expansion better be more for the general public.
So... Having mulled the presentation over, I now present my toughts on it:
The trailer looks nothing like the game, as usual, but at least Lyris looked like herself so there's that. A vampire speedfreak takes out the red shirts and then gets pwned by the heroes. *** hum. No surprises then, everyone already knew that vampires are the focus for 2020. I guess vamp fanboys are happy, but I grew out of that phase a long time ago. To me they are a 90s thing, but to each their own I suppose.
Solitude and Morthal looked nice enough, but Dragon Bridge looked bit wimpy, though they didn't show them all that much so we'll see. Location is good for me since Solitude is "my" home in Skyrim and Hjaalmarch being one of my fav holds so that's a plus from me. And the icing on the cake is that we might get a proper Labyrinthian, in comparison to the short foray offered for Halls of Colossus. If there is a decent house available in either city, I might end up buying one, but not if it's for crowns only.
Blackreach... Cool, I suppose. Especially the idea of enlargening it to lie below a larger portion of Skyrim. But the thing though is, that Blackreach is the Underdark of Tamriel. Having tons of flamboyant, outlandishly clad people scurrying about in droves on their flaming laser breathing ponies or ancient relic steam puppies, kinda takes the whole "alone in the dark, lost within the deep places of the land filled with old an foul beings" wibe away from it.
Blackreach, to me at least, is about stillness, isolation, and darkness. A place where time stopped, and forgotten artifacts of a bygone era lie gathering dust, while monstrous beings that can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with, stalk you in the darkness and silence waiting for a chace to eat you. ESO black reach doesn't sound like that thing to me, but more of a hurly burly carnival ride full of noise and flashing lights.
Especially if they stuff it full of vampire and werewolf communities and such... And the idea that everyone grows up hearign legends about Blackreach... Eh, I guess I can chalk in down to this being a thousand years before Skyrim and stuff. But to me, Blackrach was always a secret known by only a few scholars, well versed in forgotten lore buried in dusty tomes.
Antiquities... Hmmm, am not sold - yet. I suppose it could be fun, but it depends on how much RNG is involved, how huge a time sink we are talking here. We already know it's gonna be BOP, so that means no way to get the loot but by participating in the activity. And then there is the question of furnishing slots... Most of my homes are already at full capacity so where exactly am I supposed to display them? We need more slots. And this coming from a guy who already has a dedicated museum home full of curioes.
It did feel though, during the after show, that they were trying to sell it just abit too hard. I mean, what is it actually? A Minigame to get goodies? How many are there? Are you limited by a daily quest or something to get them? What is the skill level needed for the Minigame, and what are the impact of skill on the results? Is it gonna be just another frigging chore to do each day or something actually engaging?
The reason why I am sceptical is, that it is a totally new thing to be added to the game, that does not have itself as the end goal (as it was for housing for example), but instead gives you stuff for other activities. As such, it is not baked into the base game loop, despite all their claims towards layered cake and such. So I get the feeling that it's gonna end up being a bolted on thingy that does not actually fit within the framework of the game. Like I said, it could work, but it might just end up being just another chore for chasing BIS stuff that you need to be competent in actually itnerestign activities. And if that ends up being the case, then bummer indeed. Like I really detest that the way to get furnishing plans requires you to serial loot funerary urns in tombs... I hope it wont end up being something like that.
Don't get me wrong though, I like the idea. It is a lot more interesting to me than grinding dungeons or chasing achievements. I just am not seeing yet how they are going to integrate it to the current ESO experience. I hope it works and won't be relegated to something you zip through each day like crafting writs. At least it will cover the whole game world and will be supported in hte futurte too, unlike burglaries and assassinations. They reallly shoud add some actual new Thieves Guild And Dark Brotherhood activities with each chapter.
Re-downloading the whole client is an aggravation, but the fact to the game size goes down, and by a significant degree is nice. And who knows, maybe even the game play performance fixes actually work for once.
Hoped to hear a word about the extensive gear set audit that is supposedly coming, but didn't catch a peep about that, so that's a bummer too. But hey, we'll get to meet Gabrielle again so there's that then.
But for what it's worth, I am, even to my own surprise, actually interested and looking forward to this stuff, and way more interested than I ever was for the Dragon nonsense.
And finally, just gotta touch this thing... Looks like Beth-man shouty guy was in attendance again... Zheesh... On the off hand chance that you re reading this, please try to mellow it out a bit. It's nice and fun to be exited and all, but please do try to take the health of other people's ears into account. M'kay?
I'm not convinced that the minor features Greymoor offers is worth paying the same price as I did for Morrowind and Elsweyr. I'm kinda questioning what sort of feedback ZOS got on that customer survey they sent out that resulted in the same price for less gameplay-changing content.
I am somehow notexcited, but I don't really know why. Maybe if they would have shown more in game footage of the zone (did they even show anything outside of a few screenshots?) and an in depth explanation of Antiquities and how those skill lines worked, I would have actually felt some hype. I am a weird mix between not disappointed and not psyched.
Eager for more information and video footage.
Edit: After re-watching the presentation, I saw a nice little video where ED STARK (what?!) and some devs talked a bit about the "Dark Heart" and there was actually quite a bit of footage shown, made more interesting with the ability to pause a lot This went by so quick, earlier, I had forgotten about it. *a little more psyched now
Price/content (for all we know so far) - too expensive.
I would feel bad about myself if I pay this amount of money for just a part of game. Because I could be buying 2 other mmo-pvp based games with this money.
Which is another thing for me that I haven't even finished Northern Elsweyr which I bought in August. Because I get bored, I skip talks etc.
Because I enjoy PvP more.
Well.. I try to enjoy it at least. (performance/bugs)
I stepped into Southern Elsweyr when it was released to see a queue of people in front of everything so I am still waiting for it to be emptier to revisit.
Also after seeing my Necro being useless in PvP, my hype for the class died. She just sits at home
To wrap it up, I'd like to see the new zone, what is up with it. But maybe when it is in discount. Elsweyr was like 50% when I bought it.
If it goes down, I'll give it a try, even just for the nostalgy part of it...
We got a new story, after all. And some improvements. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, but Orgrimar (sp?), Murkmire, Dragonhold, etc all gave us those too. For me at least, it has to be more than just that to be worth a full chapter update.
Never liked the whole vampire thing, never played a vampire in any game and never will. Plus there’s nothing about them (that I know of) that makes them at all unique in TES. Whereas I do love fantasy elves, I freely confess, but enjoy them all the more for how differently they are portrayed in LotR, TES and Dragon Age.
But it’s okay. I only started playing ESO this past year so there’s plenty yet for me to do and get caught up on while everyone else is getting their undead fix!
The story line seems really great but overland is so simple it will take away from the experience. The new systems seems really cool for people who like exploration. It’s not my cup of tea, but it adds variety so all good.
For PVP....... it’s nice to hear a new siege weapon, but pvp is so ignored it’s pretty ridiculous.
One might not be able to tell from my posts on here but I'm actually a very positive person. No matter how tough life gets I always manage to maintain hope for what the future brings...
Vampire Lord and Antiquities are both bringing expanded capabilities for existing characters. That was my personal #1 concern since we haven't gotten new skill lines since Summerset. So, I'm fine with it. My main isn't getting much, but some of my alts are. And the systems sound really promising.
I definitely want to see them complete the mag arsenal with new weapons: Spellsword+Focus (melee DPS), Alteration (tanking), Illusion (buff/debuffs+utility+stealth), and Conjuration (all-class pet options). And give Frost a sensible design, since it's severely gimped right now with bad mechanics. Maybe some of those holes will be filled later in the year.
Super excited about new vampire content, and the vampire revamp. Huge fan of vampires and dark gothic type storylines in general, so this chapter is right up my alley. Also pretty hyped about going to blackreach again because that was one of my favorite areas in skyrim. Overall really looking forward to it.
I'm fine with it because I love Vampires but I have a hard time believing that's all the features they could come up with..because I'm sure they sold a *** ton of Elsweyr boxed with Necromancer.
Meh. Also they seemed surprised it had this little interest as they didn't even hit the 150k goal. Honestly if this year is really busy for other games then I will possibly even skip it for whatever comes next year. Seems light on content and I dunno even the ESO team doesn't seem to care about Skyrim anymore it feels like a repeat of Skyrim dawnguard dlc to be hoenst.
I had high hopes a new weapon is coming. Still I now change my expectations next year I doubt we will get a spear with Black Marsh.
Also did anyone else find it weird how they mentioned the red murkmire flash bug? Have people really been asking for it that much? Between that and the upcoming Murkmire event they still won't talk about something is brewing for Argonian fans.
Performance issues I have no confidence in them fixing, nerfs and radical pendulum swinging combat changes every three months, no meaningful additions to PvP, and the final nail is a light content "chapter" that is basically a glorified patch that adds in a reworked already existing skill line and rips off WoW's archeology profession. Not to mention STILL no update on CP or any form of actual player progression.
I've had a great time in this game, and met some wonderful and amazing people. I'll always remember this game fondly.
I just cannot justify paying full price for this light amount of content.
And no, you can't have my stuff and I don't care if I'm missed.
I was hoping for some new weapon lines, specifically one hand and rune. However, the vampire rework and mythic items sound really neat and I’m excited for those. I’m also excited for a “darker” themed story.
I’m just gonna be disappointed if I have to look like a god awful vampire lord. I completely avoided being one in Skyrim because I hate it that much
