The player makes the greatest difference in the performance of any class.
I’ve recently created a MagPlar to be an additional DPS char (PvE). I gather that Templar’s typically play the Healer role in groups and assume it is generally expected of the class. My question is whether some people primarily designate and play their Temps as DPS, specifically in groups for Undaunted Pledges? Is this common and acceptable to teams?
I might wish to set the char up for healing at some point but plan for him to be a DD for the time being. Just wondering if this is done, and what people’s opinions are on the subject. Any major drawbacks to being a DPS Temp in PvE groups?
/TIA

Thank you for your responses. I agree that Templars do seem to be a pretty versatile class! And with all roles, skill and experience are your best weapons.
I guess my primary question though is whether people PUG much with DPS only Temps and whether they have any issues getting/staying grouped (it being assumed that another player is performing the healer role). I could simply queue up, but was looking for any experiences from people doing Vet Pledges and Random Dungeons as DD Temps.
In dungeons I never look or really care what class others are playing. I've never seen anybody else raise concerns about it. In 4-person dungeons if there is somebody giving you grief about the class you're playing the problem is theirs, not yours. Class/role optimization is more relevant for trial progression groups who are trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of the group and who are tying to make sure that all of the group buffs that are specific to the different classes are present.
For DPS pugging dungeons just make sure you do the minimum expectations for your role - put out a reasonable amount of damage, avoid incoming damage/mechanics, rez others when needed, don't steal aggro from the tank, stay in front of your healer, and move through the dungeon at a pace that the rest of the group is agreeable to.
Same. The only question that should matter is: "Are you fulfilling your role to the best of your ability?"In dungeons I never look or really care what class others are playing. I've never seen anybody else raise concerns about it.

Your comment highlights the templar strengths. If you could create only one character in the game this might be the way to go. Above average dps, one of the top healing classes, could even make a decent tank if you wanted. Versatility, versatility, versatility. Use jabs as a spammable when in those 3 dps groups. No need to worry about heals. Great aoe damage with reflective light, shards, barrage. Best execute (I’m a little biased) with radiant destruction. Purifying light even crits now!!! Lol. What’s not to love? And with promises of better sustain, you really can’t go wrong.I’ve recently created a MagPlar to be an additional DPS char (PvE). This, and that part is important. Love templars for this, you can queue as an real healer then switch to DD with off heal if group don't need much healing, however on last boss you go back to heal as they has problems in HM.SpacemanSpiff1 wrote: »all classes can heal or dps. magplars are great for both and can easily swap on the fly.
