    I had some difficulties understanding your question and comments, but in case you wanted to know if I am happy with crafting in ESO, here is my reply:
    I wish it wasn't such a grind to get rare grains/platings (for jewelry crafting) - but otherwise I like ESO's crafting. It's the first MMORPG that made me want to craft at all, which is something, I'd say.

    OP, if you want more attention on the thread, it might help if you edit the title to spell "crafting" correctly. Looks like autocorrect may have gotten the best of you.

    The staff input on ESO was:
    "ESO feels like the clear winner to me. There’s a lot more depth to its crafting than you usually see, and it’s actually a viable path to top tier endgame equipment. Virtually everything all of my characters wear is stuff I crafted myself."

    Which is a pretty fair comment, I think. ZOS has done a fairly good job with keeping a portion of crafted sets viable - not always meta, but certainly viable. New Moon, Julianos, Shacklebreaker, Hunding's Rage, Torug's Pact...those are all sets that are still useful even at CP 160 content in both PVE and PVP. That's pretty neat!

    I'm fine with the crafting. Hit the bench, click craft done.

    I would like it to be a bit more involved, I've played a lot of FFXIV in the past and I really liked the crafting in that. If ESO could get that in then I would be happy, but for what it is it's fine. I suppose it gives me more time to kill dragons :smile:

    I think ZOS has done a pretty good job of hitting a middle ground with the system not being too simplistic nor too complicated. Like others I still feel jewelry is off with the grain system for tempers but will credit ZOS that the changes they have made to acquiring them and master writs has improved it immensely to the point it is worth doing. While FF XIV does a better job of having crafted gear fit high end play it is one of the most convoluted and grindy systems I have worked with. Gear also has a reasonable market so players could make some gil by selling their work. In the end I absolutely hated having to create and level items in FF XIV. The RNG nature of what you would get only made matters worse with wasted materials. So all in all I would say ZOS has the better system for the wider player base than the others I am familiar with in the linked article.

    Not really happy about crafting in its current state.

    - We were told back in beta that crafting would be relevant to end-game, however... They nerfed most of the useful crafted sets over the years in favor of "standardizing" (translation: to sell new dlc/chapters).
    - Most armor/weapon traits serve no optimal purpose other than bloating drop tables and research times (encouraging instant research scroll purchases).
    - Transmutation is kinda nice?, but that's a whole other controversial subject on gem availability and gem capacity (probably designed this way so they can introduce more cash shop purchases later).
    - Jewelry crafting and transmutation are not part of the base game, even though they should have been at launch imo (more design choices in favor of crown store purchases).
    - Jewelry crafting was ultimately pointless, as you will spend an eternity trying to gold out your jewelry, assuming you can even make it purple.
    - The only bone they threw us was the ability to transmute jewelry, but they designed jewelry crafting with the dumb dust/grains and plating ***.... Not mentioning that you only have a 50% chance to recover 1 dust (1/10 of an equivalent upgrade material from other gear) from deconstructed jewelry.
    - Crafting adds no depth to you character's build, but to say character 'builds' in ESO are deep is an omegalul in itself.

    Bonus points: Spot the patterns which favor the cash shop.

    only thing i feel still isn't right is jewelry crafting. the temper plates are still not dropping enough imo.

    Overall I like the crafting. I think it's involved enough for me as someone who has very limited time to play. I wouldn't mind if it could be made more involved for others so long as I don't end up feeling like I'm missing out on something and it's just an rp thing. I think people's suggestions for improvements should be listened to. I didn't like having to use over 30 heartwood to do the new life charity writ. If it's going to take that much heartwood it needs to either give some back or drop more. I know it's charity but that hurt.

    My main issue with crafting is furnishing right now. The cost of materials is nuts. They need to reduce the requirements across the board or increase drop rates and include furnishing mats in the appropriate surveys.

    I haven't subscribed since June so as the supplies in my craftbag dwindle and I continue to run 8 characters through writs almost daily, I'm reminded why I quit playing 5 1/2 years ago.

    Game should just be called "Inventory Manager Online" if you don't sub.

    Other than drop rates for zircon and chromium and maybe some other I really like the craft system just as it is.

    Crafting is what takes a purple drop up to gold, so it's not just about the crafted sets. It's a decent compromise level, as has already been said. Not too complex, not too simplistic.

    My only beef is the relative drop rates of the tempers. The purples are always running out, as you need them for an Epic result and a Legendary one, but the drop rate is as if only the final levels were used. Blue and lower get less use because a lot of players are upgrading a dropped item that starts at those levels, and so consumption of those is for the "craft from scratch" use only.

    While it may not be the best crafting it is far from the worst. There is no reason to revamp crafting as OP is suggesting since crafting works fine as it is.

    Due to the lack of interest in this thread it seems few feel crafting needs to changed.

    I have stated in other threads how I am constantly in need of mastic particularly. Woodworking is the only hireling I have, and on 3/4 toons currently, I still cannot keep up. There are much fewer wood weapons and shields dropping than clothing and blacksmithing items to decon for you to get more that way. I think the mastic drop rate for refining needs to be increased to help make up the difference.

    I do daily crafting writs and craft furnishings for my houses too, and I’m always putting off crafting the furnishings because there are so many purple woodworking furnishing items needed and I need so much mastic for the purple woodworking master writs I get.

    @katanagirl1 upgrade matts are more commonly obtained from refining of raw matts and writ rewards.

    First off, I enjoy the crafting in ESO a great deal, not that there is not room for improvement...

    I agree with those that pointed out the drop rates and methods with jewelry need to be looked into so upgrading gear and doing the Master Writs are more reasonable.

    In the beginning we were told that the best gear in the game would be crafted, but I wish that were not just upgrading an epic (purple) item to Legendary (Gold) that was dropped in a group dungeon or trial.

    There are other things, but at the moment, I am drawing a blank... I think it comes with age.

    Your issue highlights the main problem that many players have with jewelry crafting. IIRC, you're a fairly new player (from what I've gathered of your posts in the crafting and housing forums), so starting this game having to collect mats and wanting to complete daily crafting writs, master writs, and also furnish homes, supply will be an issue.

    I am sitting on 800 mastic, even with all the furnishing crafting, gear crafting, and master writs that I've done over the years. Why, because I had time to collect mats before crafting writs were introduced, and before master writs and furniture crafting were introduced. But, I also have to maintain that supply by collecting surveys and pretty much harvesting every node I come across in my travels, and decon everything I'm not going to use.

    For a fairly new player who wants to do all these things, supply will be an issue. And, it's an issue for everyone as far as jewelry crafting is concerned because daily writs, master writs, and JC furniture were all introduced at the same time as the craft was introduced. None of us have had time to build up a stockpile of mats to draw from for furniture crafting and master writs. Of course, the grains system has only exacerbated the problem. ZOS wanted JC to be special, but they've made it too difficult for players trying to craft jewelry, do daily writs, complete master writs, and craft furniture. For those just wanting to upgrade their dropped dungeon/trial jewelry to gold, it's not as big of an issue.

    My point is that I am doing daily writs for the big three as I call them - blacksmithing, woodworking, and clothing - in addition to crafting furniture, and I use up many more mastic than I do elegant lining and grain solvent.

    I included the comment about deconning gear to stress that I can get more improvement mats from clothing and blacksmithing than woodworking because of the fewer bows, staves, and shields that drop versus both light and medium armor, and heavy armor and all the other weapons.

    I mentioned the furniture crafting because I typically have many more purple (epic) plans that I want to craft than I do epic plans from blacksmithing or clothing.

    I pick up all surveys that I get from 3 crafters doing daily crafting writs, and I also spend about one hour per day just farming and collecting mats to refine.

    I really thought I had collected a wide variety of data to support my argument. At any given time I typically have about twice as many blacksmithing and clothing purple improvement mats than woodworking ones.

    I suppose if you are either just doing daily writs or just doing furniture crafting, maybe it’s not such a big deal for you.

    EDIT: one other thing I’ll add, because of the much greater number of epic master writs than legendary ones, I have significantly more gold tempers than purple ones, in all three areas

    Completely agree, and I've made the same point previously.

    Mastic will be of lower quantity because it only drops from bows/staves which only drop on the last boss of a dungeon in general (and sometimes in chests), whereas body pieces for both elegant lining and grain solvent from decon drop regularly from all bosses in a dungeon and from chests. So, you'll end up having more of those two than you do mastic (and also why mastic is significantly more expensive)

    Same argument for why elegant lining is so much cheaper, there are two gear levels (light and medium) that you get from it, and only 1 gear level (heavy) for grain solvent. So you'll get approximately twice as many body pieces in light/medium than you do in heavy. Weapons only drop regularly on last boss, so you have much less of them.

    I think my main gripe about crafting is that the scarcity of upgrade mats (jewelry especially) prevents you somewhat from trying out new builds to their fullest extent. Sure, you can theory-craft and then commit to a set for your build, but you'll never know how it actually handles until after you've spent your expensive mats and tested the build on a hunch. This discourages players (especially new ones) from seeking out and trying off-meta, fun builds because who wants to expend all their crafting mats for something that might be below average performance?

    On a related note, making builds in ESO is far too reliant on sets in the first place imo and sets don't really resonate enough with any particular race or class. It would be cool if we had game-play changing sets which changed the behavior of certain skill types or how/when they can be used. Like, why don't we have a set which allows our light attacks with weapons scale with our offensive magicka stats instead of stamina? This would allow all those players who have been begging for a feasible spell-sword play-style for years now to finally have something fun to use.

    I enjoy crafting but have two main beefs, probably very similar to others.

    First, jewelry crafting. It is way too difficult to acquire enough platings to improve your jewelry pieces. The fact that you're picking up only 1/10 of a plating at a time is ridiculous. It takes 10x as long to collect what you need and people who have the platings you need want too much money for them. Master writs are impossible to do so they're just being destroyed.

    Second, furniture crafting. I don't have as much of a problem with the materials so much as the motifs. So many beautiful motifs out there and you make them impossible to find! I've spent countless hours farming and stealing looking for motifs, only to come out with a few green ones I already have and if I'm lucky a blue that maybe I can sell. Why did you have to nerf the elsweyr furniture motif drops? In the beginning it was generous, but not so generous that I was getting everything I wanted. Then one day it all changed and I would get 10% or less of the motifs I had been getting. Really, why is it so wrong for us to be able to pick up a great motif once a day instead of maybe once a month? So awful.

    Those are my two biggest peeves with crafting. Sorry for the rant.

    I am mostly happy with crafting right now. It's a relevant system which is more than you can say for some games. The gear is competitive at all levels of the game compared to dropped gear, but in both situations some sets are better than others.

    For what I don't like? I don't feel like jewelcrafting needs to be treated any differently than the other crafts. It's only "special" because ZOS said it should be special. This might work when the associated chapter is brand new, but a couple years down the line, it will feel out of place. Mathematically, jewelry is just one of the 12 slots you put gear into. There is no real reason it has to be harder to upgrade than other crafts, balance wise.

    I have other minor criticisms but I think overall crafting is in a decent place.

    I'm not that impressed with the crafting system. There are some good points but many bad ones.

    The crafted armor is mostly usefull while leveling or early on, but because of the timers on traits you can't really craft a set for yourself. You have to get others to do it or use a alt.

    For example, I usually play Tanks, I would love to craft myself a 2 trait "Death's Wind" at lvl 10 and try it out, but I never do because my char can't do it and it's not worth the time to get it crafted by someone else. So instead I craft myself some pieces of no set and head off to the dungeons at 10.

    My complaint about the trait system is that it's too easy to get the traits to research. I think it was intended to be slightly harder to get traits but game design ruined it somehow. I would rather have it harder to find the traits and have lower research time.

    With Craglorn they introduced the 9th trait and made it harder to get the trait. But they fell into the alt trap as so many times before. Basicly a main character would have to wait 30 days to be able to profit from crafting the trait, but a useless alt could research the trait and craft it in hours.... People with bunches of useless alts could do the quest over and over.- The alt curse of ESO..

    The big money wasn't really in crafting the twice-born star, but in crafting ninhood trait stuff for people to research.

    After Craglorn they stopped adding traits for some reason. Although I think if they had added a 10th trait as a book, and required 9 traits to read it, and it had dropped as loot in a dungeon it would have solved many of the problems. Wouldn't need research time if it's in a book after all. You would then have reasons to do the dungeon over, and over to get all the trait books, or purchase the in the player shops.

    My experience over the years is that crafting sets to sell in your store is not profitable enough to defend wasting slots on it. You'll probably make more money selling something else instead.

    Crafting is usefull at endgame to upgrade gear, that is something and keep the economy of the game floating.


    With the latest DLC Dragonhold they did add 3x9trait sets, that is something ofcourse, but over the years very little else have been added for 9 traits crafting.

    In order to get to the point where you can sell crafted items for good profit there would have to be massive changes. Also because time reducers is probably a good seller in the store there's fat chance those will be reduced.

    My tip would be to give new players crafting time reducers in lvling boxes so they can craft the 2 trait sets themselves by lvl 10. Like 6-12h reducers, and then explain that you can purchase more in the shop.
