I'm not aware of any consensus concerning it. For selling in stores, look at the average prices (overpriced stuff will not sell, but you still should be making a profit). For commissions - it isn't difficult to find someone who will do it just for the cost of the mats/for the mats. I do it like that for my guildmates for instance.

It can take 30 minutes up to an hour to craft two sets if you have to travel to overland set sites.

So, how much gold can you grind or farm in that time questing or mowing down hordes of.mobs, including selling the loot you acquire?

Of course you may craft because you enjoy it, so maybe not all the gold you could make.

Most will do it for free or a small tip provided(around 5 - 10K) you have all the mats and know exactly what you want.

At the very least you will need to provide the expensive purple/gold upgrade and trait/style mats for whatever you want made.

The only time people get slightly annoyed is, when you ask for a crafter, have no mats, don't know what you want or don't even know about the crafted sets and to top it off have next to no gold.

I make stuff for guild mates when they ask but I really prefer people who know what they want and have everything ready to go, that way I can just port to one of the guild houses, make what they want and either mail/trade it to them, within 5 - 10 minutes at most.

I don't say no to tips but I don't bother setting an expected amount, its up to the individual to put a price on what they got.

Gold from tips is really a drop in the bucket for most crafters, time is the real issue for most, making something for someone takes away from their game time.

If your not in a guild best place to find a crafter would be in Alinor or Vivec, right before the daily writs reset, ask in zone chat or whisper someone in a cool looking outfit(not a costume) usually the ones with gold dye tend to be a good giveaway, that the person might be able to make what you need, be polite and people will be willing to help you out.

I have done that far too often. Found out I made something that didn't have the proper trait, wasn't the proper level (CP 150 is more common than other level errors), etc.

Annoying, but a cost of doing things in my view.

If you mean by selling gear sets then I'd say no it isn't the best way to make gold from crafting. I'm not a big seller but the crafting items I sell for gold are white gear for players to research, extra tempers from refining, master writs I don't have the skills for or are in areas I don't go to (Cyrodiil/Imperial City) and marketable items from the Master Writ Mediators. I would think a player who did this regularly along with selling some of the raw materials could do reasonably well in making gold.

It really isn't. Crafted sets are not sought after by endgame crowd so your target audience is limited to casual and new players. And usually they know someone in their guild (or just a random kindhearted guy in /zone) who will craft them whatever they want for free.

Since so many sets are account bound everyone has a character with level 50 crafting just to be able to do upgrades. Due to transmute everyone has at least on 9-trait crafter too. Motif knowledge used to be the single advantage a dedicated crafter could leverage but it became irrelevant since outfit system was introduced.

If you want to make gold through crafting you are better off just doing writs on as many characters as you can swallow every day.

You can make a profit selling crafted items. But what people have said is true it's hard to do and you are working on slim margins. And since outfitting crafted style doesn't matter. If your looking to make gold I suggest farming motifs,mats and furnishing plans.

You can make quite good gold doing daily writs. I was up to 750K+ gold on NA at one point from running all 11 of my characters there through crafting dailies.

I do recommend having enough bag space and crafting 2 rotations of stuff (at least). That minimizes the time when running lots of characters through. It went much more quickly for me when I started doing that. It is a bit trickier to do when you skip days, but still helps save time overall for me.

I used to gather 1 day on one server (NA or EU) and do writs on the other, but remembering which server I did that on was getting to be too much of a pain, so I just do one day's dailies on as many characters as I can stomach, which lately is very few. I am queueing for specific dungeons or running the world to get skill points to go around. That takes a long time as well. 9 out of 10 characters at CP 730 on NA and 8 out of 10 characters at CP 400 or so on EU. Yes, I am an altoholic.

Finding the skill points is a pain, but happens over time. I still use them for combat stuff since you can kill stuff better with upgraded skills and thus earn even more skillpoints/shards through delves, dungeons and quests.

You earn more selling tempers from refining materials.

I don't know if you're talking about crafting for someone or having them craft for you. But when I craft CP160 for someone, I will ask for the mats. Below CP160 I will generally not ask for anything. For traits, I'll ask for nirncrux but will give the others unless I'm running low. I also have to ask for bloodthirsty and the other rare trait stones on jewelry. For enchantments I will give up to purple ones but if you want gold I need the kutas or payment for mine. I haven't really crafted any alchemy stuff for anyone so can't really say what I would ask for.
