When things are too easy, I lose interest. When things are too hard, not humiliatingly so, but somewhat beyond my capabilities at the moment, I am inspired by the challenge. It's as simple as that: players finding the challenges that are fun for them.

For solo play, which is what I and many others do at least part of the time in ESO, there's a very wide gap in difficulty between running quests and delves and doing vMA. Solo runs through group dungeons fill that gap for me, and they offer quite a lot of variation.

The most pride of accomplishment I've gotten in this game is doing things other people say I'm not supposed to be able to do. Getting a solo no death hard mode completion in a veteran dungeon is much more fulfilling to me than snoozing through it in a 4 person group where people are arguing about your gear and what strategy to use, whether you are pulling your percentages of DPS, getting kicked because they don't have time to explain mechanics to you, etc. Being able to die and think about how you failed in a casual manner, summoning your banker to pull other sets out of storage and try them out, or standing in a safe place while you look up how to kill a boss on the internet is a low pressure learning experience.

And it sure beats just doing nothing out of fear of failing.... so many people say they are afraid to try the Undaunted dungeons because they heard horror stories about newbs getting kicked from elitist groups, or were afraid to try and fight six plus mobs at a time by themselves. Let me tell you, I died badly and quickly when I first ventured into an instanced dungeon by myself, but the lessons I learned from that point on were invaluable, and I now have the experience and confidence to group if I wish, knowing what's in store and so forth.
