But honestly what are the benefits of doing so besides bragging rights and a sense of personal accomplishment!?

When things are too easy, I lose interest. When things are too hard, not humiliatingly so, but somewhat beyond my capabilities at the moment, I am inspired by the challenge. It's as simple as that: players finding the challenges that are fun for them.
For solo play, which is what I and many others do at least part of the time in ESO, there's a very wide gap in difficulty between running quests and delves and doing vMA. Solo runs through group dungeons fill that gap for me, and they offer quite a lot of variation.
long ago it was just a werewolf transform. Don't know this days.FrancisCrawford wrote: »There was a thread recently where somebody worked out how to solo Blackheart Haven.

The Psijic ultimate apparently also works.
I presume one has to either kill Blackheart before he makes a second try at transforming you, or else generate ultimate very, very fast.
Direfrost keep is soloable. You can not stand on 2 pressure plates at same time but you pull the lever to open door to exit tunnel of the location where the grating would lead, aggro and kill that boss thru door.Even casual me could do it. (Was bit too slow with my fake dps.)
Edit: My memory is bit hazy but think I did the quest too when soloing.
