Error 303 all day long

I was able to play just fine last night, but nearly every time I tried logging in today I am able to get through the login screen, select my character, then after a long load screen get kicked back to login with a message "Error 303 (6:3:1181:2) Connection to server timed out". I am having no latency issues with anything else, streaming, running other games, etc., and was able to get on briefly earlier today, which lasted about until I needed to switch to bank alts to make some room for more crafting materials.

This doesn't seem to care which characters I attempt to log in on, all have the same error, and after getting kicked back to login, going in again defaults to the last character I played rather than the last I attempted to log in on. Checked and there are no reported outages with my internet provider (Time Warner), reset the modem, PC and such, with no difference. Any advice or suggestions on things I haven't tried that might resolve this? The Login Error Code sticky has nothing listed at all as a possible solution for this problem, and the support knowledge base is worthless with no posts regarding this specific error.

About an hour ago there was a really bad lag spike that ripped right through Tamriel I fear the server needs maintenance ASAP. Caused massive chaos!

By pure chance, I managed to finally get ingame on my main just now. Though There may be some other more serious issues afoot - I have 12 new mails from my outfitter hireling, over the past 6 hours....

So I managed to stay ingame til about 5-10 minutes ago, and got booted to login with an unknown error while attempting to type out a "report player" ticket ingame. Trying to log back in on any of my characters gives the Error 303 message again. This is getting old fast.

Hi there, folks. First, we recommend that you add the game, the launcher, and account.elderscrollsonline.com as exceptions to your firewall and anti-virus programs. Once you've done that, please open the following ports through your router:
    • TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
    • TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507

If this does not resolve the error, please send a ticket to our Support Team that includes your game consultant files so that they can look into the issue further. Thank you!

Already confirmed those ports were open, had exceptions in place as well. I did read through the game consultant file (opening a ticket now), but if it's any help expediting the process, I may have found the culprit. Near the bottom of the file, the consultant appears to ping both the patcher and launcher. On both pings (and listing as causing 100% packet loss for the launcher), there is an IP 107.14.17.194 which appears to be a Road Runner owned connection in Kansas near Wichita that is failing to relay properly.

So, yeah. Time Warner Cable being Time Warner Cable, even from halfway across the country.

9 hours after opening a ticket, 5+ hours since the last reply from support, and still getting dropped with the same error, mixed in with the odd nameless error that just tells me to try again in a few minutes.

Annoyed? You bet your ass. Wouldn't be quite so agitated if I hadn't had the last reply try to tell me it was due to "too many people trying to log in at once", which is a load of crap considering this has been ongoing for 36+ hours, including at 3am US Eastern time - which I am fairly certain is well outside primetime population.

Could someone please try to get on the phone to TWC and have them send a van out to check the hub at the IP given in my last post? Or figure something out on your guys' end to resolve this, because it absolutely is not on mine, and I was able to log in perfectly fine 48 hours ago.

I have been having this same problem after it suddenly crashed in cyrodiil and i had to fill out their we are sorry your game crashed report that pops up. I died rezzed and on rez in BRK bam error. Kept getting 303 after logging in which went find and selcting my chararcter. It is only at character load this happens which they don't seem to understand. Did a full repair after half an hour trying and still got the same message. After a hour and a half it has finally let me back in by chance i am feeling.

Think I found the culprit, as I was able to get in late last night succesfully. If you are running ESOHead/ESOMapMarkers addons, disable them. Not sure if it's all versions or just running an older non-updated version, but the second I disabled both I was able to get in with no problems. Very strange effect, especially considering I could log in with no trouble most of the day immediately after the last patch, and it was only the day after that the trouble started.

Had same issue started after a crash in Cyrodill.
    Unknown Errors loading. Error 303.
I disabled the ESOHead and Mapmarkers, and for what I see now, I can login and also teleport to other areas without Error 303.
    Loading time also seems improved.

Cant believe ESOHead causing this, but BIG Thx to your outputs on the forum guys!!!

(now find another addon which shows me Skyshards...)

Edit: AddOn al gevonden, me so happy die Error303 is gone and loading times improved

Same thing here for me. Been experiencing this error all night, found this thread, and disabled ESOhead, and everything worked just fine. I wonder what's going on there.

Actually, if you just delete the ESOHead.LUA file in the \Elder Scrolls Online\live\SavedVariables, you should be back to normal. This file grows with every item you map out and eventually causes the time out issues we've been experiencing. Just delete the file and it will create a new one. If you want to help the developer there's an Upload option on their addon page at esoui.com where you can upload the file for them to investigate.

Why in the world would ESO head be causing that?

The ESO Head mods link to their site to pull the data down... Now, I'm guessing, but, I suspect that when those mods are loaded TESO thinks that connection is now required to launch, and chokes. Which, if true, is mental, because it would allow all kinds of creepy stuff to go on through the API.

Disabling the addons is not enough. I had done that and was not able to log in until this wonderful thread.

DELETE the file SteveCampsOut mentions and you will log back in immediately!

Major thanks to him for pointing this out, it was driving me crazy, and ESO support stopped responding to my emails days ago.

This is incorrect. ESO's implementation of the LUA runtime does not allow for network or filesystem I/O connections. You can take your tinfoil hat off ;)

Confirmed. It is ESO head data, unfortunately. The point of the addon is to remember where all the resource spawn points are and have them ready to view as you run around the maps. To do this, that data has to be loaded with you character. By it's very purpose (especially if you are a heavy crafter like me), the more you gather, the bigger that file gets.

Eventually the file gets SO big that it can't finish loading in whatever timeframe ZOS has set between requesting a character load and actually appearing in the game world, and you keep timing out... forever. Since all your characters share the ESO Head data (usually), it affects all of them.

I have been struggling with this problem for weeks. I have decent laptop and a rockin desktop. I use them both about equally. The laptop drops me because the file simply can't load as fast, the desktop has no problem running ESO Head. System specs do play a part in the problem. A high end system with SSD's and a crapton of RAM won't be as effected by this problem. The Laptop with only 16 GB RAM and a mechanical HDD just cant load that file before time is up.

I'm not a computer genius by any means. These are just my personal observations combined with some wisdom from much more savy players in the community, but I hope it helps someone struggling and scratching their head over this.

Perhaps the ESO Head developers can find some less-restrictive way to load that giant file so that we can continue to use the add on. It's a wonderful add on and I really enjoy it. It's a shame that just when it starts to become really useful it prevents you from continuing to play
