How's the wait time for dungeons as DPS?

brandon.coker101_ESO
And heals for that matter?

Just curious, thinking about making a mage/heavy armor/2H weapon but I don't want to wait forever in queue...as tank it was pretty quick.

Definitely forever. Then you join with another DPS and that DPS leaves because he/she thinks it's taking too long and they you gotta restart your search.

DPS is in very low demand. - every kid and his dogs a nightblade, or some form of "dragonborn"
Tanks are in medium demand. - some people don't understand what a tank is, or how to select their role in the dungeon finder amazingly.
Healers are in very high demand, not many people enjoy the healing role, but it is pretty vital (but still optional) to any success be it PVE or PVP.

hmm, guess I'll throw a few points in restro staff and save a set of cloth gear for dungeon runs.

I think the wait times would be far less if the LFG actually worked correctly. Creating a party with 3 DPS (no tanks) and 1 healer has folks rage-quit either on the first boss or after the first few pulls (with wipes) if things don't go well. Not everyone has action MMO experience and the learning curve isn't minimal if you're coming from a pure tab-target MMO.

You can see in the Party window that everyone had their correct role selected, which makes the assignment that much more odd.

Also, given the fact that you can't successfully kick a chest ninja, often you can't even invite anyone else to the party because no one is leader anymore, and how limited the XP and rewards are in a dungeon (compared with gaining at least an entire level in the same amount of time if you xp farmed above ground), a lot of folks simply aren't queuing.

Finally, the game does a horrible job of telling a player they're even eligible to run a dungeon! If there were quests that popped up because an NPC specifically chased you down to give you their quest - Mages or Fighters guilds or even the main quest line - I think far more folks would queue. I've run several lvl 38+ dungeons with folks who haven't run a single dungeon because they didn't really know about them.

If you're not talking with Undaunted, I don't believe you even find out about Spindleclutch. Ask in /zone chat how many dungeons there are to run while leveling. I highly doubt anyone will say 16.

I queue as both dps (prefered) and Heals (Resto staff only). I would say 99.98% of the time I end up as a healer instead of being able to dps. I would say 99.99% of the time but the one time I got to dps...the healer sucked so bad I spent most of my time swapping to resto staff to keep the healer and tank alive so we wouldn't wipe.

Heck even my guild group...I end up playing healer darn near 100% of the time. We have 3 solid in our group one full time dps but he is slotting support abilities as we have gotten used to running together. Another player that started as dps but has now taken on a tanking role. As for me we always look for a healer so I can actually dps (I have good dps actually)...but after waiting 20-30 minutes and no luck finding a healer we queue looking for a healer or dps and always find a dps so I have to end up healing. I am getting fairly good at it, but honestly once we hit veteran level I have no idea how well this will work. We have done the lvl 30 instances so far and its going ok, but as we get to the higher level ones or onto veteran instances I see myself as a support healer and not a main healer. I am a sorc not a templar :P

Unless you're working with another off-healer, you might find that there's a little more to it than that.

ETA: But to answer your original question, as a healer it's usually insta-queue and rarely more than a couple of minutes.

Our guild has about 20 people in it. I have the only dedicated healer (1 DPS skill and Soul Trap) in the guild. We one who is leveling healer/dps. So based on my small sample I would say and have always said..... Tanks and Healers always get an invite to the party, the rest..... well luck to them.

I cannot speak to PUGs as friends don't let friends PUG. We run as guild members. Coming from GW/LOTRO/NWN, TESO is MMO lite with basically 2 mechanics, stay out of the red and kill the black balls. Not very inspiring or terribly difficult. I would think even a group of 4 with 2 in off heal mode could keep the group up. Just stay out of the red circles.

    What do you mean?

What I mean is while I'm lvling I'll put a point or two into restro and leave it on my bar so that it will continue to get experience.

Did my first FG run this morning before going to work and I've to say it was quite challenging on my lvl 13 Templar. But we had a good Pug group and it was fun.

So a good thing healers are on high demand. ;-)

As a DPS you will be the lowest of demand and will have the longer wait times. This is how it should be to an extent though. A healthy community counts on that role distribution.

While the overwhelming majority of players play as DPS in the earlier levels, trust that along the leveling experience a good amount of players will start to diversify how they play and might switch roles completely. While DPS will still be the lowest demand, it lightens up a bit later on.
