Maul, always. The pen is better than any other option.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten
Usually yea, if you’re 5 medium Nirnhoned for sure. If you’re heavy without a lot of weapon damage buffs sharpened can be decent. I don’t know what the tipping point is.

third maul. 20% pen is nothing to sniff at. add Spriggan set and u won't even need to use Onslaught...........

Thank you for asking this question!
I was so certain about Broadsword/sharpened that I never would have considered using a nirnhoned maul for my stamblade.
its always been either axe or maul. u get dot, or penetration depending on ur build and/or playstyle.
u could go sword with sharpened, which is theoritically great - extra damage PLUS penetration.
but realistically, 6% extra damage is tiny when talking about PvP. this is the PvP forum afterall.
PvE though, u'd do well with sword on certain builds.

what do you think guys for CP PvP.... fully unbuffed, gold 2H:
1. Precise Maul - 12.7% penetration - 11,206 Dizzying Swing - 45% crit
2. Sharpened Greatsword - 11.2% penetration - 11,694 Dizzying Swing - 38% crit
I'm planning to retrait the maul to Nirnhoned (1571 to 1806 damage), that'll buff the damage.... so in a few days (need to mine those geodes...) I'm estimating... (UPDATE: i Nirn the maul. actually got enough transmute)
3. Nirn Maul - 12.7% pen - 38% - 11,394 Dizzying. (huh... doesnt seems a lot from 11,206?)
or.........
4. Nirn Great - 7% pen - 38% - around 12k Dizzying?
Seems the extra damage from Nirn sword still not better than the maul.
Thoughts?
Update1: transmute the maul to Nirn.
Update2: now comparing Nirn Maul vs Sharpened Sword. Both 38% crit.
Honestly that looks pretty on-par. I suppose the only question is if the 1806/1571 affects light/heavy attacks or something.....
now who wants to do some math?
update3: on a 3m dummy, just pure light attacks with ~40% crit, the maul hits roughly 3-5% harder.... thanks to the Nirn i guess? lights around 3100-3300 depending on berserker buff, while sword (and its 6% more damage?) is 3000-3250....
SO sword's buff only on skills? it does increase the tooltip, but how about nirn sword then? thats a lot less pen but perhaps higher attacks? by end of campaign ill have enough to nirn the damn thing too lol but until then im sticking to maul. thx for reading

Nirn maul in CP, sharpened maul for no CP, depending on build and sets.
This is what works for me. Just remember that Nirn buffs your healing and becomes much more effective the more weapon damage modifiers you stack (such as brutality and friends, not damage effects or pen or max stamina).
