PS5 / Xbox Series X

So with both the consoles entering the final year before release is it possible to have an announcement from ZOS over what plans they are going to implement e.g character transfers or graphic upgrades (Better than Xbox One X enhanced probs) I assume they will put ESO on next gen, would be a terrible business decision not too due to 2/3 of the community being on console . Both seem equal in power to what has been leaked.

Merry Christmas all and a happy new life festival, may RNJesus bless us all

Before people say yes I know ESO is better on PC ... I had a PC and played it on there up until the PC set itself on fire ... then I moved to PS4 Pro.

I also (perhaps foolishly) moved from pc to x one x and am curious about the same thing. It would be nice to get a few more graphical bells and whistles but mostly 60 frames is what I want. I think it’s a given that if they do it, we’ll still be on the same “mega server” and thus keep the same characters. I wonder if they would hesitate to do it because it would be a big competitive advantage to play on the new box against people on the old one (60 FPS vs. 30).

But, even going from my 4K Xbox setup to my oldish pc (Nvidia 1070) at 1440, pc looks and plays better... but I have 9 traits researched on Xbox and 810 cp... can’t switch back!

If they don't have full account transfers between PS4 - Ps5 and XB1 to Xbox then frankly they're going to lose tonnes of players.

I know I'll quit. Let's hope they're smarter than that. A short time window to clone your account over and abandon the old platform is a necessity.

I assume we can expect the game to be graphically equal to PC when it comes out on next gen.

Both consoles are backwards compatible. ZOS doesn't really need to do anything to run ESO on them.

And considering that current ESO dev team is pretty small and the content schedule is still busy (not even talking about the general poor state of the game) I doubt they will have resources to do any graphics updates.

It will not be necessary to transfer accounts to the new consoles other than installing them as your existing account and ESO will play just fine on them. Further the upgraded consoles will allow running current ESO code much better and upping graphics would just put us back in the same boat of poor performance.

Instead of quitting, yell at Sony or Microsoft. They'd be the ones denying account movement. Because the game account is tied to your PS/Xbox account, not the console. So there's no reason you couldn't use the PS4/OneX and still play on the brand new console.

And no, the game wont be graphically equal because consoles now are low end PCs.

A move to the new consoles extends the life of the game on consoles. The older consoles will only have somewhere around 2 years of support passed the introduction of new ones. And the limitations of the old consoles will greatly hinder any new things ZOS might want to try with the game. The only trouble the company may run into is the bugs that may appear between the new and old generation of consoles. Xbox One might have a bug that The Xbox does not etc.

It would not be Sony or Microsoft at fault if ZOS made the absurd decision to separate this gen and next gen backends. No way ZOS does that. The game will continue to work across generations as-is with no need for transfers since there is no where to transfer to.

Stop and consider what you are actually asking.

Is ZOS going to create a new mega server specifically for next gen platforms only?

    No.

And that is the only way it could possibly matter for transfers.

Exactly... ZOS doesnt have to do anything at all... People could get the new consoles day 1, download ESO and play with the same account...

    So this thread is over...

Peopl do realize that the game will still be running on the same engine it runs on now, regardless of the console. ESO's engine won't be changing. So graphics, other than superficial ones are likely to stay the same. However, performance might see a slight boost on the next gen consoles. but again, ESO's servers aren't changing either, so you are likely to still the same server issues.

just because it's going to be on a new console doesn't mean the game changes.

I mean none of the problems on consoles have to do with the consoles itself, ESO looks fabulous (as much as it can) on the One X and a 4k TV.

Lags and delays and whatever are caused by the horrible game engine and ZOS‘ incapability of technical stuff / the potato servers, none of them occur because of lacking console specs.

They said, they will work the entire next year on performance updates. Right now this game doesnt even use 100% of the GPU (use between 30%-40%), if they could solve that issue, the performance of this game will sky rocket.

New consoles are the perfect excuse to work on performance... Us PC Players will benefit the most...

The hardware will be a big step up from current gen consoles and most pc’s, so visuals should be very noticeably improved. The servers, however...the servers. Best not to think about that.

well apparently ZOS disagrees with this considering they just nerfed mount textures on consoles to "improve performance"

I mean the One X already runs the highest PC settings (without all the potential mods). The graphic update won’t be really noticeable because the game itself is lacking in that regard. You can push ESO to incredible graphics but need mods for that (sadly).

@lagrue It‘s just one of the many scapegoats and excuses used to explain the poor performance of the game on any platform.

I'm assuming ZOS will put forth some effort to utilize the extra horsepower. I'm not obsessed with visual fidelity though, so I don't really care if they do or not. Improvements over the base model xb1/ps4/low-mid pc should be significant. I/O will be massively faster, and load time improvements will be much appreciated.

It will be ineteresting to see. I wouldnt expect gfx updates to anything other than new and unreleased content though. And they probably have to work somekind downgraded secondary gfx settings for the current console gen to make the gameplay more "fluent"

New consoles are backwards compatible so no real work needed. For graphics upgrades you’re really just talking increased texture size and draw distance, both of which should be np to bring it on par with max PC graphics and still hit 30 fps on the new boxes.

my point is that the game will still run on the engine its using now. a new console won't change the engine. so the game, regardless of being on a new console, has to operate within the limits of its engine. doesn't matter if its on the new console. Performance might see an increase, but the visuals are probably going to stay where they are, just function a bit smoother.

that an PC's will always outclass consoles because of their upgradeability, where a console is what you get out of the box, unless you know how to take them apart and alter them without bricking them.

What will have to change? Xbox one, xbox one S xbox one X, doesnt matter what machine you have. As long as you have xbox live you’re all good. There will be no need to transfer anything. Now, if you’re trying to change platforms, like xbox to pc or xbox to playstation, then you might have a problem. But that’s how it is now, so nothing new.

This is the most correct answer.

It doesn't matter if ZOS makes a new game client with better graphics for the new consoles. The only thing that would matter is if they create a new megaserver for the new consoles. And that's not going to happen.

Same megaserver means you keep the same account.

Character transfers will never be a thing. Yes they did it, ONCE, and that was with a platform launch. All xbox consoles forward from the original One are compatible with other models. This new X series is just a more powerful One X. ESO works on the One, it'll work on the next.

Cant say about Playstation, just assume.

And yes i bet ZOS will just increase the graphics settings on the console versions again.

Umm... We can absolutely log into both NA and EU with the same account. I have toons in xbna and xbeu from one account. You can't port the same toon between them.

Cross platform used to be an issue due to Sony and Microsoft's reluctance, but that seems to be disappearing. ESO's structure is what doesn't allow that now.

It's never been officially stated, but I imagine the database issues that the devs reference in regards to account transfer between platforms also is the reason there isn't cross platform.
