PS4 - Update During the Day! - Grrrrrr....

One of the few things related to the game that I think ZoS has no control over, but I hate coming home late at night to then find that the game has to start the update process (right after another app is going through the same as well).

Why can't it just update during the day when I am not playing? I have the settings to do that, but the PS4 ignores them. Grrrrrr.....

We as EU had to deal with it yesterday. Downtime during the day, on wich most schools are free. Or like me a day off from work. They should have sticked to Mondays as usual.

It drives me nuts that I have "automatically download updates/patches" selected on my PS4, system updates/patches and those for other games do this just fine in standby mode, but ESO sometimes does but mostly doens't. For this very reason, I keep an eye on the top banner on the forums and when I know it is patch day, I make sure to turn my PS4 fully on and check that ESO starts downloading the patch/update before I leave for work. Especially since the longer process is the friggin' copying files thing afterwards.

I’ve had the same issue. To work around it, I often use the app to go download a free theme or avatar and force the console to wake up and begin downloading. Most times this has worked to get the patch started via remote as well.

I think this is a very PS4 thing. I have those settings selected, too, and whether my PS4 actually downloads updates in rest mode depends on how nice it's feeling. Some games and apps seem more consistent about it than others, but I could be seeing patterns where there aren't any.

Tera was updating just ahead of ESO, so that delayed me even more since both started after I got home.

    Quite annoying.

I do wonder when they officially release the patch. Some posts on the Internet indicated the PS4 only checks once a day (a stupid practice if so) and thus may miss things.

Though I think I have missed a couple of days in the past and still got downloads right when I started so I am not sure if this is correct.

Seems like sometime in the night or early morning. Every time ESO has a patch and I turn my PS4 on in the morning before work (so, around 7-8am Eastern U.S. time), it starts downloading the patch.

I need to pay more attention to when patches will drop. I could easily have started this before I went into work, but I really don't want to turn my PS4 on every day just in case a patch will drop.
