Severe aiming bug with Curse, won't fire

Yesterday, I noticed how my Haunting Curse seemed to refuse working very often. I am used to this around any LoS, but it happened in open field. It might have something to do with proximity, much like Frags sometimes fail if too close. Luckily, I could reproduce the bug on an NPC just now. XBox EU, hope this link helps:

Added thought:
It could also be the verticality. There is a tiny slope with this NPC here. And when it failed against players, there was jumping involved.

P.S.: Can a helpful mod please move this to the bug section, please? Somehow this went the wrong way. (o_0)

P.P.S.: Or you know what? Delete it, I don't care. What is yet another combat-breaking bug in a game riddled with technical issues? Doesn't even raise an eyebrow, really.

I’ve had something similar happen on NPCs and players alike with many skills not just Curse. Usually just need to move around and find the spot where it starts working again. I’m guessing it is an issue where the game thinks you can see the target and that you are LOS from the target at the same time.

Yah I've had this issue too with several abilities, noticed its been worse this last patch though.

I've been able to successfully shoot a LA 90 degrees from where my aim cursor is targeted, like static just standing still no targets...like aiming forward and I'm able to shoot a LA off to my immediate left or right repeatably.

I'm pretty sure this is caused by lag, i play with janky rural internet and tend to have more lag than most, and I've had this happen many times with plenty of skills, most frequently fossilize, leap, lotus fan, and invasion.

On an unrelated note, i don't play my dk much anymore lol.

Didn't watch your video, but does the animation and sound start but not finish? That's how it always happens for me.

I do notice it has progressively gotten more common as the games general performance quality decreased.

I would exclude lag from the possible explanations, as in the video, I tested it on an NPC. That should eliminate lag issues, I think.
LoS seems an obvious reason. But I had an interesting fight on the Cropsford outer flag against a player, where I just had to give up. Curse wouldn't work. At all. It's a flat surface, but he was jumping, which is why I suspect the z-axis. There's also the flag for potential LoS, but with the NPC in the vid, no LoS. Just a very slight slope.
The animation starts, but gets cancelled immediately. Making my char twitch ridiculously and nothing else. Interestingly, it immediately activates when the NPC moves backwards.
Ah, well. This game needs to get its mechanics and performance overhauled BADLY. But what is new? *shrugs*

Honestly it's totally unacceptable game performance, with most games; issues like this never make it past dev., and if they make it into live it's patched immediately and quietly.

You shouldn't have to make a thread like this for them to find this and fix it, this is a major issue for PvE or PvP.

I would like to know if this is isolated to Xbox though.

I have it happen when I'm trying to use abilities to survive in PvP, imagine dying in a raid or dungeon because that happens? GTFO

I noticed you didn't use any other abilities on your front bar, where they also bugged?
Sometimes swapping and then swapping back and using a non-target ability like you were doing with the shield can clear it.
I typically shield bash the air and that can fix it, like swap shield bash, swap back shield bash and then use the ability.

You know something everyone wants to do in the middle of combat.

Yeah, since it definitely did affect me in PvP fights, it's actually a huge deal. But, you know, ZOS. Although, to be fair, they could already be in the holidays, which is absolutely fine. I would expect something to be done next year, though, but... I don't have any hopes left for this game.
I haven't tested the other skills on my Curse bar. I would expect them to work normally, as they all don't require a target.
The question about other platforms is very interesting, I must say! Would be nice to know if others encounter this.
