What are some good skills to have on my bar for a magsorc dps in pve that will provide a great deal of damage? Preferably non pet skills.

Unstable wall of elements, crystal frags, and degeneration are my 3 favorites. Can not see running a magsorc without them.

Bound aegis is good to slot to boost your magicka. Elemental weapon and/or channeled acceleration will also help.

It all depends on what you are trying to do. If its vMA, I'll definitely slot hardened ward, scalding rune or something to slow down the adds and the matriarch for healing. If its a raid pug, I'll slot the matriarch and boundless storm for a shield with damage. Got to stay alive to do DPS

Will you be in melee range or standing back a little?

I will be ranged, not within melee range distance of course.

For pure ranged I think this is the highest DPS setup:

If you really don't want to use pets, then go with the Haunting Curse morph and skills like this:

If you can stand within 5m than this is a better setup:

Edit: Just realized the last one has a shield. Often a good idea to slot one, but when it's not needed that spot should be Bound Aegis.

I see skills I do not recognize on the second bar on the last picture, where would I find them and in which skill line?

2nd bar in the last picture is: Unstable Wall (destruction staff), Barbed Trap (fighters guild), Mystic Orb (undaunted), Boundless Storm (storm calling), Twilight Tormentor (Daedric summoning), and Shooting Star (mages guild).

Edit: Thinking about the first 2 setups more, even Mystic Orb requires you to get a little close. Ideally it should be cast 8m from the enemy so it can start ticking immediately and doesn’t have a travel time. This is not a problem for most fights, but if you want to stay farther than that you could switch it for Lightning Flood (higher cost, lower damage, and smaller size, but can be placed up to 28m away). Just make sure you’re within 18m for Unstable Wall.

I prefer AOE DPS so I use:

    1. Heavy attack with lightning staff (splash damage is AOE with right passives)(I use Undaunted Infiltrator, Infallible Aether, and Maelstrom Lightning staff so I get 3 BIG bonuses to heavy attack)
    2. Boundless Storm (AOE DPS + protect buff + speed buff)
    3. Crit. Surge (Big self heals and I never use/need a shield and rarely use potions)(Also gives Major Sorcery for DPS buff)
    4. Lightning Flood (AOE DPS)(I heavy attack a lot so I never run out of magicka and cost isn't an issue for me)
    5. Elemental Blockade (AOE DPS and also triggers 3rd heavy attack buff for my Maelstrom lightning staff)
    6. Elemental Rage Ult. (AOE DPS and best ult skill IMO)
    7. Ice Comet Ult. (secondary ult. which I rarely use)
    8. Slot Inner Light (Max magicka and higher crit. chance so 2 DPS buffs and more magicka pool)
    9. Bound Aegis (Block buff, max magicka (DPS buff), and Protect buff)
    10. I slot 1 of the meditate morph skills so I can use Concentrated Barrier for 5,000 pts. damage mitigation
Since I heavy attack so much, I have the skills slots open to slot things like Inner Light and Bound Aegis depending on the bar.

When starting a fight I use this order:
3 and 2 as I'm running to the fight
Then 4 and 5 and then heavy attack away
So I'm getting AOE DPS from 2, 4, 5, and the heavy attacks and stuff just melts. I also use the Grothdar monster set most of the time so that's another big AOE DPS. This setup just melts dungeon and overland mobs and I do great even in trials.

What dps do you pull in 3 and 6 mil dummy? Sounds like a fun build :)

I'm not much into DPS testing. It's a heavy attack build meant for AOE DPS so it's best for large mobs. Single target I'm sure it's lacking in DPS behind LA weavers and fire staff. I can tell you I checked my DPS once. It was the 1st and 2nd fights in the start of nHRC. Since there are huge mobs there I saw my DPS go to 125,000 since basically everything I do is designed to hurt many targets at once.

I use a similar build with a little different bar setup for parsing.
Front: Frags, Daedric Prey, 2 pets, Elemental Drain.
Back: Daedric Tombs, Unstable Wall, 2 pets, Barbed Trap. Ultimate is the Atronach.

With the Zaan set, 2 HA's per rotation, I've hit 45K on a 6 mil.

This is really a fun build. Replace Barbed Trap and Elemental Drain with Hardened Ward and Critical Surge, and you can solo like crazy. Props to Xynode for his "Easy Sorc" build.

I mean, the thread title asks for “best” not “easiest”.
