• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

This is my first end-of-year with ESO. Wondering when New Life generally starts?

I do apologise for the dumb question, but as I've never before found myself playing ESO at this time of year, I was wondering when the New Life Festival roughly tends to start?

Also, what kind of activities are on offer in this particular event?

Many thanks in advance.

It starts on the 19th, as to what kind of activities:

It's not a dumb question. The New Life Festival generally starts a week or so prior to the Christmas holiday, and it usually runs until the New Year (or shortly afterward).

During the New Life Festival, as with other ESO events, a 100% experience boost can be activated for two hours by using a particular memento (or by interacting with mead barrels at the New Life tent until you acquire the memento). In addition, there are nine daily quests that can be completed for various fun items. These quests take players across Tamriel to various locales, such as engaging in stunt activities at Alcaire Castle in Stormhaven or lockpicking chests in Reaper's March.

These quests can of course be completed on all characters once per day, so there is potential to earn plenty of festive rewards throughout the event if you so choose. Incentive to do so is acquiring 12 New Life Charity Writs, which rewards the player with the Crystalfrost skin upon completion of the twelfth writ.

Long story short, the event is fairly routine for players who have completed the quests many times before, but it is still fun regardless. It's also just fun seeing so many other players in otherwise sparsely-populated regions.

To prepare, you'll want to make sure you have these wayshrines open on any characters you want to participate in the event. (Vulkhel Guard and Davon's Watch are already open to you). Otherwise it can be a really long first day.

    To begin the quest rotation:
    - Kynesgrove in Eastmarch

    Castle Charm Challenge (Breton)
    - Alcaire Castle in Stormhaven
    Fish Boon Feast (Argonian)
    - Percolating Mire and Hissmir in Shadowfen
    Lava Foot Stomp (Dunmer)
    - Ebonheart in Stonefalls
    Mud Ball Merriment (Bosmer)
    - Skywatch in Auridon
    Signal Fire Sprint (Redguard)
    - Bergama in Alik'r
    Snow Bear Plunge (Nord)
    - Voljar Meadery in Eastmarch
    Stonetooth Bash (Orc)
    - Stonetooth and Carved Hills in Betnikh
The Trial of Five-Clawed Guile (Khajiit)
    - Rawl'kha in Reaper's March
    War Orphan's Sojourn (Altmer)
    - Gil-Var-Delle in Grahtwood

For Signal Fire, you'll want some sort of speed assist for non-stamina characters. Rapids, speed potions, stamina/stamina recovery food. Whichever is cheap and easiest.

For Stonetooth, you can kill creatures outside of the map circle for quest items. Port from Stonetooth to Carved Hills and then head toward the beach. Wolves and mudcrabs both drop meat. Wasps drop honey.

The rest are pretty straightforward progression.

Thanks for the reminder about unlocking all of the wayshrines. I had to port to Hew’s Bane, and then take a boat to Windhelm on several of my alts who hadn’t been to Eastmarch before... but forgot about the actual event quest locations.

Also a friendly reminder that if you are in any guilds, use the guild roster and choose to "travel to player" if you spot someone on a map you need. Free wayshrine, and since players will be doing the festival, you should have ample opportunity to freely port everywhere you need to!

And, if you are looking to collect recipes and motifs, wait until near the end of the event to buy them. Prices plummet as the event goes on. And, you may collect them from the rewards.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It is of course an opportunity to take your newer characters on an exploration through zones they haven't visited yet, and especially if you haven't been to some of them lately with any character then that can - for some players, not all - actually be rather more fun than the quests themselves. Even more so if you like that sort of thing and don't use map addons or guild travel etc. However, it does take all sorts!

    All chars; pre-parked.

Saw about 8 people at the bank today. Starting to Mala-catch a vibe. Still able to ride full Rapids across town and no load screens. Still using the upstairs banker (edit name when I remember).
