Hello,
I grouped with someone in Craglorn and I received a message asking me if wanted to teleport to that player because he was in "another version of the zone". It was the first time I ever had this message. So, are some the zones instances ? Maybe just Craglorn ? Also, that other player was under lvl 50, maybe there is a special version of Craglorn for players under 50 ?

It probably had to do with the quest they were on. Some questing is instanced and can change the "scenery" of an area after the quest is completed. The first town in Malabal Tor is a great example, starts out under attack but after you complete the associated quest, you can use the services within the town and you won't even see others who have completed it until you do.

The game uses a mega server technology with shards for all areas to keep them from being over or under crowded. So yes depending upon population there can be more than one instance of a zone at any given time.

It was in spellscar, outside of any town and such.

I thought the zones themselves were not instantiated, I guess i was wrong.

Its two types of instances in ESO, the first is how some areas changes after doing an quest.
Typically an town going from an war zone to restored.

The second is that you have multiple versions of the same zone to keep server load and population level low enough.
This is the far more common one especially in popular zones
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Zaria explained it well.

What OP experienced was the second example. Multiple instances of the same zone for load purposes.

That one has bit me on the butt a couple of times. I see someone ask for a healer for a trial, I make the switch to my healer before jotting down the @ name and end up in a different instance and unable to find them.

Also when fighting dragons there were a few times when I would use the port to a friend add-on (forget the name) so I could then go to the wayshrine where the dragon will be but end up in different instant.

The first I just have to remember to take down the @ name before swapping characters. The 2nd not much can be done other than hope since the event is over it is less likely to end up in different instances.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."
