Should allies be able to be targeted?

This is a tough one but might make for better pvp gameplay.

I can see a million problems (friendly snares, etc.) but could make things a little less.... clumpy.

Maybe a separate "hardcore" arena that is open without LoS obstacles.

I know BGs exist y'all

    Targeted as in friendly fire?

Allies can be targeted. Warden has a heal that is a targeted heal.

But seriously, OP's suggestion is only good if one wants everyone to play solo in PvP. Most heals are AoE and they are the only heals outside of that one warden heal where we can guarantee they will hit desired targets vs a player off to the side.

To clarify, damage skills can affect allies.

Heals and buffs remain status quo.

Not necessarily solo but incorporate more skill than smashing a heal skill or cc while Zerg surfing.

It would force allies to create space with each other and be more coordinated in how they engage and defend

It would only work if we had true player collision. Heck, we don't even have working collision with walls for many skills.

    Thanks for the clarification.
I think it would be suitable for a new mode of PVP, but not particularly well suited to Cyrodiil which is designed to create large scale combat. That's hard to do when the random PUG nearby can kill you quicker than the supposed enemy.

    @VaranisArano - agreed.

Think through LoS obstacles would be a benefit in an arena.

Honestly, would probably be a big mess with allies spitefully attacking each other but AOE cap removal didn't change much.

It would be a beautiful game if archers played their role from the backline, tanks upfront...yada, yada.

Totally fun to actually put together a battle plan that didn't include the healbots or snare peeps.

    Constructive criticism incoming:
Worst idea I've ever heard 10/10.

See what I did there? "Worst idea I've ever heard," is definitely criticism, but the "10/10," is constructive af. This idea is crap.

There are more trolls in this game than any other I've played. It would be catastrophic in Cyrodiil, bgs, really anywhere. Also, your aoe abilities being able to hit allies means more damage ticks, which means more server load. I'll say again, worst idea I've ever heard 10/10.

I liken it to people that prefer "hardcore" game modes. There are people who exclusively play those modes as it is there preference. Maybe it doesn't work for you @Blinkin8r and what you prefer but doesn't mean other people won't like it.

    Close-minded 10/10.

If the premise is to force players to pick and choose when to drop AoE's or watch their LOS when they cast due to the possibility that you can accidentally do damage to your teammates, then why would you not be able to accidentally heal your enemies and have to think about whether you should cast a heal or not? It should go both ways if that is the goal of OP's idea.

In FPS games like CSGO, that is a very real consideration players have to make: Do I nade when teammates are near the site? Do I go for a spray when there is a teammate who might cross my LOF and have my bullets hit the back of their head? Etc. Being aware of your team and having trigger control on when to shoot and when not to shoot is part of game sense, mape awareness etc in CSGO.

I am assume that is what OP is trying to simulate, but with ESO PVP. Meaning, you can't just drop an AoE anywhere because you could hit teammates...but if that were the case, it should also mean you can't just drop an AoE heal because your enemies might stand in it and get healed.

I think you missed the point.

Your idea even suggests AoEs will effect friendlies so we would have to separate. In other words, standing in a damaging AoE would be standing in stupid even if a friendly cast it, even if you cast it. As such we would need to spread out making most healing skills much less effective.

So while heals and buffs remain status quo on paper they are less so in practice. The game is not designed for this and it would be like standing in an AoE to implement it.

Yes, I have played games with friendly fire.

@idk & @Goregrinder - I agree that heals create a big problem as it relates to application. Especially considering how this game was built.

Looking to identify a fresh game mode as the current options are getting stale.

Would love a collaborative discussion with lots of ideas so bring it!

You bring up a good point. This is an issue considering how this game was build. It would require a rework of combat and PvE content to make this happen. A redesign greater than what Zos is doing now and we are already experiencing a huge amount of change fatigue. Adding a heavier dose is not a great idea.

Besides that, it does not make sense to change the game to that degree. If you want a different type of game I suggest you find that. I can suggest a PvP game that has friendly fire.

An idea that was tossed around for a while years ago still is one of the best ideas I've heard. It's like a siege type game where they make a separate instance of all the major cities. I forget all the ins and outs but that was the general idea and I always thought it sounded awesome

It will be great if ZOS could implement this as separate game mode or fools day event. On regular basis - no, this will be completely another game in terms of balancing (and bugs)...

Wouldn't work in a game such as this one. Utterly stupid idea to be honest.
