Puzzle Pirates f2p has two currencies, pieces of eight (in game gold) and doubloons (bought with real money).
There was an exchange at the bank, you put up how much you wanted to trade, for how much you were will to accept of the other.

You could see other people's "bids" also, so if you went in, and wanted it right now, you could take one of the current "bids" if you wanted to put up your own bid you could.

Flags (like our big trader guilds) would go in and do a ton of doubloon trades when there would be Flag fights so they could buy ships and hire players to fight to keep their islands.

So yes, trading real money can affect games, but that game had tons of money sinks, both currencies. It was a lot of work not to buy doubloons yourself for some of your own needs.

But the point was that yes, there are definitely safe ways to implement a safe exchange.

There was an automated system in Blade x Soul, where people could put their gold up for sale and it could be purchased with NCoin (The premium currency) BUT.... Nexon took a HEAVY cut out of your NCoin that just disappeared into thin air, that was basically a "service charge" even though the Ncoin had already been paid for by another person. The system was very convenient for someone like me who liked trading gold for NCoin through an official, sanctioned system that was fully automated by the game itself, with safety guaranteed, however it had severe drawbacks. One being that they took cuts out of the profits on both ends, so it wasn't just an even trade- the company was actually sucking gold and premium currency back into the system. The other drawback was that the company put itself in charge of the exchange rate, meaning it eventually dropped so low that your gold was worthless and only those who were top tier could ever afford to buy Ncoin.

While the convenience of some kind of fully automated system would be gloriously convenient, I would fear that the company would end up controlling to many aspects of it as NC ultimately did, crippling the system and rendering gold valueless.

I wish crown store only houses could be available as gift as well. 14,000 crowns is about 5,000,000 gold at current prices. I would buy them all that way without batting an eye :)

You guys are paying 350~ gold a crown? It's 100 on Xbox and you're very lucky to see someone in chat paying 150 (they're usually desperate) That's insane.

That's really surprising to hear. From what I've heard from console players the gold prices for certain items are 2-3x what they are on PC so I was extrapolating from that to 5-600 gold/crown. But 100 gold/crown seems really low, considering how easy is to make gold in game, regardless of platform. Or console players, especially in the US are probably quite well off IRL so buying crowns is cheap for them.
