Marketing, charity and events

I can't say the current event is the most fun or fleshed out, but I've slain many dragons regardless. It's fine, really. What inspires me to continue slaying dragons at this point is the idea that it is contributing in some small way to animal welfare. It's an important issue, and is a personal passion.

There's a possibility with events like this to make the world just a bit better by diverting some minute fraction of earnings to issues of merit and relevance. Gaming itself is perhaps not the greatest direct contributor to the social good, but more charitable giving, even if used for marketing purposes, is welcome. I'd rather see more events like this, than giving individuals a Porsche or a cool million in cash.

It would be cool if they came up with an event where there was an achievement or activity that would result in a contribution to a charity or charitable fund.

For every Dragon killed on this date, ZOS will donate a dollar to XYZ charity. Or something like that.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

That’s a great idea. Grinding for gear is one thing, but grinding for charity would provide some real purpose to otherwise purely virtual activities and achievements.

I'd like it if we could nominate charities, and ones that are outside the US.

They also have to generate revenue as well to donate money. So maybe a combo event such as:

    1) For every 100,000 mud crabs killed, $1 will be donated to X
    2) Y(5-20%) of all proceeds from crown purchases during the event will be donated to X as well.

or you could replace # 1 with:

    * for every 5000 delve bosses slain
    * for every 10,000 treasure chests opened
    * for every 100 times B in dungeon A is slain.
    * for every 5000 items fenced. This could be tied to the celebration every year for the thieves guild
    * for every 5000 blade of woes used( during a dark brotherhood celebration event)

Etc Etc. and then just rotate through a list of charities. FYI, im more likely to log in to do these charity events and stay logged in than i am for daily rewards or some free gift.

Isn't that exactly what they did already with this event? *confused look*

I was thinking of like Amazon smile when you said that but it would be harder i think here. Could maybe divide the charities into US and EU groups with each platform deciding what charity by voting. So you would have ( probably) 6 different charities benefiting.

Edit: Could even make it like a competition. Whichever platform group reaches the goal or has the done the most, zos will donate extra to that charity as a "prize" and even have like a daily leaderboard update or something.

I have not paid attention to the news on this Dragon Event, had some real life distractions. Heck, I did not even know there was a dragon related event going on until I saw a thread on it a couple days ago.

So, good to know that great minds think alike.

I definitely agree that gamers can help charities in unique ways like this! I love what ZOS did here and it would be great to see similar acts in the future.

Another way gamers - particularly livestreamers - can help charities is by adding a charity fundraising link to their livestreams, so viewers can donate while watching their favorite streamer. I know that Wounded Warrior Project recently got into this about a year or so ago to help fundraise for U.S. veterans in need of help, so they have someone they can turn to for physical and mental health help, assistance for their families, meet-ups with other warriors to help fight feeling isolated, all at no cost to the veteran. There's more info about the charity livestreaming here: https://communityfundraising.woundedwarriorproject.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=517

Would be awesome to see ZOS or members of their Stream Team get involved like that with WWP or other charities who are diving into that type of fundraising. :)

@ZOS_GinaBruno - maybe something to consider in the future?
PS5 NA. GM of The PTK's - a free trading guild (CP 500+). Also a werewolf, bites are free when they're available. PSN = DragonRacer13

If I may, I would suggest Charity Crown Crates: ZOS would give away $1 for every apex REWARD won on the needy, such as impoverished cryptobarons. That would not only be charitable, but also improve image of crates, because only an insensitive clod could disparage Charity Crown Crates.
