Horse Races

I can't believe no one else has ever wondered if horse (mount)) raceing could be incorporated.

I might have a fully trained mount, but I always see players with much fastrer mounts than mine - so some skill must be involved. In each, or just particular zones the could be a 'point to point' course, maybe a circuit of the zones extremities. A race might have 12 participants, each paying 1,000 gold to enter, winner takes all. A new way to break Activity Finder?

Saddle, Bridale and shoes could be a new craftable skil? Saddle Bridal Shoe sets give mount tempory ability like 'swim'

I obviously havn't thought this through.......

I can't believe it either! Probably because I've read the numerous threads about it and know it's a common suggestion though.... :D

That said, I don't think there's ever been a solid concept suggested. As you said, mount speed does become equalized once mounts are maxed out... Now for one thing, this means that something needs to be adjusted in the races for that to not be ab issue. While it's nice to level your mount in a way that makes you better, we obviously can't put people at a disadvantage for not having done their 60 days.

Generally people couple this with a suggested skill line. So I guess maybe there would be a few different skills you'd have to use at the right time to traverse best? Some different terrain? ...Mario Kart items?
I don't know, I think it's difficult to balance this between being actually interesting, and still fitting the game.

Horse racing was talked about by Zos, but nothing up until now.

Personally, I don’t see this being a fun and challenging activity with how mounts in ESO currently work — one max speed and no momentum. GW2 has races with a particular mount (the roller beetle) that does have momentum, especially when you activate speed burst, so if you do it wrong and go off course, obviously you lose a lot of time rather than gaining it. Mounts are, imho, one of the things that GW2 really got right.

there are certain skills and passives that increase movement speed over the norm some affect mounts also like dodge rolling passive for bow affects mounts and makes them faster for a short burst and there is also a speed buff avail through champion points. I am not sure if the orc racial passive for speed affects mount speed or not but if it did and if racing was in the game all the jockeys would be orcs.
