We are currently investigating issues some players are having logging into the European PC/Mac megaserver. We will update as new information becomes available.

This is why

This is why so very many of us players who have remained faithful since the game came out are so dammed angry and feel let down,
its 7.11 am in the eu hardly what might be deemed a busy time with lots of player's, i am in the middle of selling items to the blacksmith in elden root and then i get no response from my controller, I know from past experience that either 1. my internet has just gone off or 2. eso has yet again crashed and surprise surprise it is the latter, I then wait until the game cuts out and i am returned to the dashboard, i then restart the game and i am informed that as i have no internet connection i cannot play so i leave and again restart i am then told that an unexpected issue has occurred and i need to contact eso support, luckily i know that this once again is not the case so for the 3rd time i restart and am greeted with there might be an unusually long wait message, quite frankly zos needs to remove its finger and sort this type of crap out, and i notice that xbox again have no maintenance this week. however i do wonder that with all these maintenance's we have most weeks why the bloody hell nothing seems to get fixed

You should be grateful for that. Probably.

On PC, these "maintenances" only break the server even worse than it was to begin with, to the point where I can now reasonably expect to be unable to play on Monday evenings at all.

At this point I think we need, as a playerbase, to logically come to two conclusions where server performance is concerned.

Either Zos is just not capable of fixing issues because they simply lack the knowledge or talent to do so.

    Or

They do know how and simply don't because it would either cost far too much, or they'd have to shut down for a few weeks and are terrified of letting a single potential penny slip through thier fingers.

Neither one of these are good for the health of the game or it's players.

I cannot imagine a scenario where they (the employees of the company) don't want the game to be the best it can be. Personally, I believe it's just money. I think Zos just doesn't reinvest back into the game outside of new content and crown store. I'm willing to bet any resources allocated to fixes or infrastructure are looked at as revenue loss purely, and not a sound investment for the longevity of the game.

I think we as players need to take a hard look at recent events and this first round of performance "improvement" and realize what a spectacular failure it's been. I don't think things will ever get much better. That's not a referendum of the devs or employees, I just don't think they are given the resources to do what needs to be done. Not for a lack of funding, but because that funding isn't reinvested into anything but a pure profit outlook. And to those who say "different teams", why is it the cost of these performance improvements have come at the cost of dungeon content? It may be different teams, but I'm willing to bet they are shared resources. We can logically assume that any improvement will come at the cost of content.

*This shouldn't need to be spelled out, but this is opinion and speculation on my part.
