Undaunted event cancellation

Just want to commend zos for pulling the pin on the event because of activity finder issues. I want to plead that the replacement event isn't a huge grind. I loved the fact that the undaunted event was short, 3 tickets per day and relatively easy. I hope the replacement is equally easy. I also would like zos to address the fact that some people were able to get event tickets and Opal pages while others were not. The event dropped at my 2 a.m. I was fast asleep and woke to the shambles. People are advantaged by being on a different time zone. I know some on console got 3 tickets, multiple Opal pages which they are selling for millions of gold. This I feel is the most unfair of the cancellation of the event. Cancel everything, tickets/ pages...EVERYTHING!!

Maybe I did not read it right but you are commending Zos that their "fixed" GF cause the sever enough performance issues they had to cancel the event.

Then you are pleading whatever Zos replaces it with is an easy grind.

And you close with a complaint that you were not able to get any tickets or Opal pages before the event was canceled while others did get the loot which seems somewhat contrary to commending Zos on pulling the plug on the event.

    Did I miss anything?

Yeah, I commend zos for cancelling because of being unfair to all servers. As I understand, the issue was with PC EU dungeon finder and they deserve an equal chance of everything. I play on console and the event would have been fine in fact it was fine. Players who logged on at the event start got 3 tickets, got opal pages, got a second berry! I am raising the point that this fact is unfair. Zos should have cancelled everything to do with the event. Why should players get all advantages for 2 hours then nothing. If the event was cancelled then all aspects of the event should be cancelled. No tickets, no berries, no Opal pages. Simple as that

It wasn't the group finder, or at least it wasn't just the group finder. I used it to do my first dungeon just fine, but there were already issues like people unable to log in and being 5-10 minute loading screens.

I actually managed to find a group and clear 3 more dungeons, but every time we had those loading screens between dungeons. We even cleared one halfway without the tank because he disconnected and took forever to log back in.

I don't see what's fair about cancelling an event for everyone. It's a panicked reaction, nothing else. You know what would be fair? To give PC-EU the same performance as PC-NA, which apparently didn't have any issues. Now THAT I could get behind.

ZOS are so far from damage control atm it’s tragic. Maybe tomorrow, they’ll get their act together and get to damage control. Right now they’re still in shock and denial. They haven’t acknowledged the seriousness of this to themselves, let alone begun to figure out how to deal with it.

Or maybe they will carry on and pretend that nothing has happened. Cos that’s what they’ve been doing over the last year.

And I got mine on PC EU real early on. But even then the log in screens were atrocious and it was obvious that it wasn’t going to end well.

ZOS’s fear that the same would happen to PC NA were well founded. PC NA only works better because it has a lower population. It would not have coped with a load of PC EU players jumping on board. Better to keep the game running.

Not sure whether the console cancellation is due to general fairness or the fact that the backend system forces cancellation on one to cancel it on all servers. Both seem equally plausible.

As far as I can tell, the vast majority of the issues were experienced on PC. There is an argument therefore that the PC event should have been cancelled, but the console events could have continued, why not?

Console is always behind and neglected for PC. Its frustrating.

PC/NA has better performance because we have less concurrent players at peak demand. It also was the middle of a workday for most of the event for us, so we never hit our peak demand before it was cancelled.

So its not like ZOS can give PC/EU whatever magically makes PC/NA work. Its not like that. They'd have to bring in limiting login queues to do that, and no one really wants that either.

Rather, PC/EU seems to be hitting the upper limit of what ZOS' software and hardware can handle, so its a much more intensive solution. Keep in mind that earlier this year, it took ZOS about a month and a half from announcing their server upgrades to actually getting it done, so don't expect a quick plug n play resolution.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn, to quote from an old movie.

It's their problem. The issues aren't new. In the two years since PC-EU all but imploded they could have added capacity, made a new server for Middle East/Asia/Australia, or simply a second EU server to offload some of the concurrent population. There are several options, and there's been more than enough time to implement them. I'm now done paying ZOS for this game, and if things don't improve pretty soon, I'll be done with the game altogether.

Deserve no commendations, Group finder has been an issue for 3+ years now, a fix for U24 clearly didn’t work and can’t handle the demand which is inexcusable after all this time and the hype they made about their performance roadmap.

The issue for me is the words they give no longer have any value as they continually fail to deliver anything that works that’s not associated with the crown store.

While there are good reasons beyond ZOS’s control for the delay in release of content for console, I get the frustration.

The two reasons I can think of are, first, general fairness, and, second, events (activities and their rewards) are probably programmed globally for all 6 platforms. There are very sound reasons for this, but it does have “all for one and one for all” implications.

I think the conclusion we can draw from this event, the launch of Guild Finder, the failure of Group Finder, the crash and extension of Witches Festival and more is that ZOS really need to up their game in terms of backend programming and service for all platforms.

To me, it seems like they are fully aware of the severity of the issue, but cannot do anything about it. The group finder fix failed. Now that trump card has failed, what next? Will the rest of the fixes on the roadmap follow suit? I imagine "despair" is a common feeling over at ESO towers, currently.

Just want to *NOT* commend ZOS for cancelling the event! Were the issues so bad? Are they unfixable and if so should all future events also be cancelled?

I also see the elderscrolls website still advertising the event? Very poorly handled!

Were the issues so bad? Yes.

Players couldn’t log on. They couldn’t move zone/room/region/dungeon/instance without getting an infinite loading screen or DC’d. The game was not functioning. Cancelling the event was the only practical, sane and fair thing to do.

Are the issues fixable? No idea. Maybe in ZOS’s rewriting of the game due some time next year. Based on their track record this year with Guild Finder and Group Finder? Not a chance.

Should all future events be cancelled? Events clearly work in terms of bringing in players (just go visit the empty city of Rimmen today to see that), so they will continue. I would be stunned if there were any that even stroked the edges of the Group Finder, let alone used it. I would imagine that someone is looking very closely at New Life to ensure that it doesn’t crush the servers like Witches and Undaunted events have. Fool us twice, more fool us, fool us again... your game will be toast.

ZOS should be congratulated for cancelling the event. It was the right thing to do and it took courage to understand that this needed to be done and do it and to do it swiftly. Hopefully they can take the next important steps and acknowledge and understand the root causes of the failure, take responsibility for them and apply themselves to fixing the issues.

It would be really good if, in addition to that, they felt brave enough to communicate what they plan to do and how long this might take to their playing/paying customers.

Why should they be congratulated for their game being unable to perform? They were already aware of the issue with group finder, they stated publicly they wouldn’t do another undaunted event whilst group finder didn't work they implemented a fix to group finder in update 24 which broke it further and did the event anyways. None of that deserves congratulations. All they’ve done is admit to what we already know.

They’ve also communicated their performance plan for improvements with update 24 being the first of those and it failed so how much confidence does that give for the future performance improvements they have planned?

It's one thing to cancel an event in advance, but to cancel an event after some of the players got the rewards while others didn't is unfair and unprofessional.

The lack of clear leadership, planning, and direction becomes more and more evident with time. Some shrewd producer should go in and film a reality show / sitcom at ZOS headquarters.... it would probably be quite entertaining!
