Don’t want to be forced to fight Naryu in the new prologue quest.

Hi, I really liked the new prologue quest where you are on the boat and have to escape from slavers. But there is an unavoidable part where Naryu asks you to hit her to “teach the basic fighting game mechanics”.
I made a big orc character and had no choice than to punch Naryu to complete this quest. I didn’t want to do it and felt so bad after. I am a girl an seeing a big orc guy hitting a girl made me upset.
Could you please make an option of not fighting her to at least have a choice? Or make us fight a skeleton or a hostile monster?
I understand the gender’s “equality” but this forces people to hit a girl (when some don't want it) therefore teaches that it’s perfectly ok. Please, for making it really equal and fair at least give us an option of choice.

You'll be hitting a lot of girls in this game, wheter its bandits or dungeon-bosses....

All the characters I have created with that version of the tutorial have been female, so I didn't see that problem, but I hear you. I would have wished that she at least hit back with a vengeance, flooring your character and saying, "right, you've got the basics down, just don't get cocky and you'll live - probably". It would have been right for both her character and ours.

I understand that, but later I can make a female character or just choose what to do but I wanted to talk about this particular part where you just start the game and you have to face this situation with Naryu and can't go further if you don't do it. The first approach to the game is like this and personally it felt so bad, I don't know if i'm the only one that would choose to refuse to hit a girl having a strong male character, I hope I'm not:(

I don't know if a MMO where not fighting is a viable option is possible but I'd like to see one.

To each their own, and if you can improve the game for some people without making it any worse for others, I have no objections. I would say that slaughtering hordes of people without hesitation or remorse would qualify as a significantly more disturbing behavior by our characters, but in the personal setting with just you and Naryu, designing the interactions does require some more care.

Yes, it's just a game, but it's a game that does a very good job of engaging you emotionally in the fate of your own character, and at least some of the NPCs some of the time. I still won't touch the Dark Brotherhood quest line, simply because I don't enjoy seeing my character murder innocent, non-aggressive "people". Murdering aggressive people that might possibly be guilty of something is required to even play, though, so I can't be too picky...

true it's a game, and you maybe would say - "I would not do that in real life" but who plays it is still a human and it would be nice to be able to choose how to approach this situation

Please don't twist this, we are talking about an option of not hitting Naryu because she's a girl and she doesn't fight back in this particular situation.
I am not asking to replace her with a guy.

Don't do the Morrowind proloue then! Buy Summerset or Elsweyr, then you ge a new, Naryu-hiting-free prolouge!

Since I wouldn't expect them to change things at this point, as much as I myself thought it a little bit silly that Naryu would risk her own face when there had to be a slaver alive she could nab and throw your characters way for punching-in-the-face reasons...

I understand this feeling. But well... A lot of things like this happen in ESO.

Look at Eastmarch zone: it's all about killing giants an animals. Bosses, delves. I hate it. I try to avoid killing animals in every zone, but I have to do it in Eastmarch. Also in Wrothgar. The worst is Murkmire prologue dailies. Once it was lauched hoards of players were killing mammoths because of a disgusting quest. Yeah, it is a game, these mammoths don't exist. But for those who play for the atmosphere, or roleplay such things are important. Some people made posts about the mammoths. Asked to change it somehow or get rid of yet. ZOS responce was - no responce.

So, slapping an insolent Dunmer wench just once pales compared to my problem...

If my character was obviously bigger and stronger, I would still think it was a badly designed interaction. My little gangly Breton lass, aimed for becoming a healer, was a pathetic wimp next to Naryu when she started, so she had no qualms punching her. Also, girl fight! (Yes, I'm pathetic.)

You have the option to say you don't need to.

Also you are not hitting her per se...she actually is testing you if you can handle yourself, sparring so to say...
Naryu is an excellent assassin not some damsel in distress..

I get the whole not wanting to hit women thing which is okay but it's not like you're out there doing this just for the sake of hitting a woman...

As for other chapters prologues... In basic games we punched daedra, the cruel enemies. We punched a girl in Morrowind prologue, than enemies in Summerset. Elsweyr is even worse than Morrowind: we punch an OLD Khajiit, a wise and peaceful gentleman devoted to religion and study.

You have to fight her if you press the first option or the second option, there is no way to avoid it. I'm not saying that the whole game is for the sake of hitting woman, why are you saying this?
It would be nice if there was a "real" option of deciding to not fight her and actually not fighting her. Like in case with my big orc character.

I't a part of being a human, asking to have a choice like it would be in real life. To make a good choice and enjoy what you play or do. If you accept everything that games/tv/etc give you it's not good aswell.

Some players here will never understand your problem. Especially those playing for combat, not for atmosphere and story. And ZOS are never changing things related to quests, alas. But I do understand you. There are players suffering from quest design, absence of choice and things they are forced to do.

:D I wouldn't have made it if I knew about this unavoidable part before
but for the new players, who don't know this and might feel the same upsetting feeling of finding themselves forced doing what they don't want, it would be nice if this part was re-worked

I guess, probably it's only for who plays for the atmosphere and for who what they choose is important.
And I understand the injustice against mammoths you were talking about earlier it's the same problem.

Naryu is a teacher, among other things. It's not just a responsibility but the most practical thing for her to do to make sure that someone she's recruiting to assist her is capable of fighting, so she teaches you the basics. Martial arts teachers invite their students to hit them all the time. It's the only way to teach certain techniques. Allowing you to knock her down is her way of teaching you to follow through. So you are not "hitting a girl"; you are sparring with your martial arts teacher, per her instruction. She is very much in control of the situation and is in no way any sort of victim at any time during the encounter. You need to trust her.

To expound on this with personal experience: I have had female martial arts teachers. I'm not a huge guy but I was still raised with the traditional honor code that suggests that hitting women is unmanly. But dishonoring your teacher by thinking of her as a delicate flower instead of respecting her experience and position is worse...and she'll put you in your place (on your arse) very quickly if you approach the situation with that attitude.
