A lot of what made the combat in this game fun / interesting and engaging has been completely ruined in the recent updates in my opinion.

Between the cast time Ultimates which feel like garbage and slow down gameplay to the now almost useless DOTs to the nerfing of many great abilities and complete butchering of class identity on some of the classes it's becoming very difficult to come back to this game and actually enjoy it. The worst thing is it's hard to tell what they're going to nerf next since the logic behind some of the changes is very strange and it seems they can't make up their minds since they buff things to then completely nerf them in the next update.

I really hope in the future patches they revert some of the poor decisions made in these recent updates and actually make combat fun again. It seems like there's a definite lack of direction concerning the combat and it needs to be looked at before the game suffers for it.

I think there should be a bot that adds "In my opinion : " before threads titles ..

I personnaly find combat quite fun and engaging. I did lost a bit of damage output last patch, but I mitigated it by changing a few things to my rotation that made it even funnier.

What? You expected a 20% nerf in DPS and a stupid increase in sustain annoyance to be fun? Combat devs are clueless. Get over it. Now go get some crowns and buy that new pig. :/

There's truly something wrong with this community if getting nerfed equals more fun. Maybe this is why the game is getting worse and worse.

    I am totally with you!

Of course when I created a big thread about how even "Casual Average Joes" were starting to feel the pressure of all these unfun nerfs and gameplay flattening, it got locked.

But the truth is simple: unless you play the usual stamina golden child character, gameplay and fun are deteriorating since 6+ months.

Add the constant server problems and you see why ESO is losing players.

I predicted this months ago, it's happening.

That's why I am still here. BFA WoW manages to be perfectly coded, no lag, no glitch and...

... still suck. Suck so hard that people still prefer playing this broken mess called ESO.

But one day, maybe, Blizz will stop creating garbage expansions and then it'll be dire for ESO.

It's not a good business model, to survive to the next day because the competition sucks.

Usually, one should try to adapt, with new skills, rotations, gear and the like, so he can find fun again.

But the problem is that if they radically change the system every third month, there is no point in running after the changes. Some little tweaks are welcome and useful; a U-turn with each patch is pointless and annoying. Last year, I used to eagerly wait for the patch notes of every new dlcs; last time I didn't even bother to read them.

If someones idea of fun combat is one shooting people or foes or two shooting them when perma CCd, then yeah, it's not "fun" that way now... If you think a combat should actually last more than a 0.5 second insta kill combo then it's slightly better IMHO. Players actually playing vs either players or "monsters" and relying on tactical decisions instead of DPS burn crutches isn't that bad of a thing.

The RNG Balance Pendulum Swings however, I have a hard time accepting.

imo ESO combat is fun, depending on content though. Killing overland mobs is not fun at all.
Combat in normal Fungal Grotto 1 is barely can be called "fun". Now DLC vet dungeons is another thing.

It's more about hard combat environment, not just rotation, when each boss is like a training dummy for you.

I believe it was very telling when we had two of the lead devs explaining these changes say "that they been told that PVE is still playable". Been told, this is the problem. This statement pretty much tells us that the Devs are only looking at one side of the PVE/PVP play instead of playing both. It blows my mind that the Dev's which push the combat mechanics are not playing both PvP and PvE.

Players are expected to play both PVE/PVP using one set of balancing yet this is not how the Devs are working on and testing. So if ZOS has them divided and do both sides same as the majority of the players do, then should it not be separate PVE and PVP balancing.

It is clear that the limitations the Dev's want in PvP does not work for the majority of the game (PvE). It's been over 5 years of this insanity and the outcome has not and will not change.

I feel like the combat team is just balancing around organized teams rather than the entire player base as a whole. I heard some elitist say that the new 23m trial dummy is the new gold standard for parses, yea ok but not everyone is going to have those buffs that the trial dummy provides running 24/7 during a trial it's just unrealistic and the ones that can are just a handful of guilds.

There's a difference between "interesting combat mechanics" and "how big are my numbers".

If the combat is fun to engage in, whether the numbers are 10% higher or 10% lower, shouldn't make a difference.

If the combat isn't fun in the first place, buffing the damage 30% won't make it any more fun, just shorter.

(And the person you quoted didn't say anything like "nerfed = more fun". He said that he lost some damage, but tweaked his rotation, and still found the combat to be fun. Totally different things.)

I rarely wish people to lose their jobs, but this patch is garbage. The goal to punish the top players back fired. After nearly 5 years of paying on console, I'm over it. I will never be a top player, but i was progressing thru dlc vet trials. But why bother. The top players were vaguely affected, meaning they can still do what they did before, but it's a bit more challenging. But for the not top players, it's turning into game over. I'm watching friends back slide on progressions, half assed rotations with "because" as the primary answer. A decrease in number of players who can give guidance, and over all pretty much no one happy. So i hope someone loses a job. This patch is awful. The intentions were mean spirited. The focus was lop sided. The reasons were mean spirited. The lack of any acknowledgement from ZOS is telling. And yes this went off in a tangent. But this patch is garbage. And the zone content is okay, but not even memorable enough to out weigh the: "Yes we just kicked you in the head and gauged out your eyes, but look at the pretty color we decided as your class power, so you'll ignore us as we now rip out your intestines" crap show this patch is.

No, it's a thread of someone who has played since launch and has witnessed days where the combat in this game used to be actually fun and engaging. Those days are long gone and I feel sorry for those who believe the garbage we are playing now is fun because compared to what this game used to be the current gameplay is garbage.

Changing and adapting is normal in any MMO. What's not normal is wild swings in balance by buffing and nerfing constantly from patch to patch.

    It's getting really old.

You change and adapt when you get a skill nerfed or even a whole class nerfed (this is bad devs team though) and all the rest stays equal.

But they are literally syphoning all the fun off the game. There's no way to "change and adapt" if you hate forced double heavy attack rotations and they nerf sustain so much that you must switch to regen gear and *still* have to do 1 heavy attack any way.

Or, you can adapt all you want that, if you chose ESO because of its dynamic gameplay, you end up with ultimates with cast time, shields with cast times (they tried it in a PTS, global e-rage ensued) and all sort of stuff to make gameplay NOT dynamic any more.

The problem with combat is that we used to have knockbacks, stuns, and fears abound. We also had Interesting escapes, reflects, and other defensive abilities.

But because of PvP a lot of these fun abilities have been toned down to shallow reflections of what they once were. The combat now is at best bland compared to the wonderful tools we once had.

Agreed, all the unique and fun stuff has either been nerfed or completely removed and we are left with a soulless game now. It baffles me that some people find this fun compared to updates like DB or homestead or One Tamriel.

I lost 30% of my dps (was 72k during update 23, 50k now) so I'm going to have to agree. Of coarse I could live with it if the game wasn't crashing every 15-20 minutes for me since Dragonhold dropped.

Just wait for the stupid fool trying to kill you to loss resource then, just put the fools out of their misery.
