yup, Dragons v2 are what dragons should have been like when Elsweyr was released, although it's obvious that ZOS ran out of time and went with the v1 versions.

They spawn more often and are more satisfying to fight. People are chasing them down, which was what was hoped would happen originally, but didn't because the spawn points were so badly thought out in Elsweyr.

There are still issues, the wing attacks don't signal at all what area they will affect, but in general they are much more fun than they used to be.

    So nice job people

Agreed, the fights seem more epic and the dragons more animated. I love the way they stomp about breathing fire at random stuff when they land now, like 'screw this barrel, imma burn it'.

Seeing them chase someone down instead of just standing in one place on the ground spinning circles is hilarious.

Also, LOVE the area effects that happen, like the sky turning red and looking all Mount Doom.

Loving it, was polishing off an iron atronauch and the dragon waddled over and bit my head off.......

have to pay proper attention now and hope there is a tank to keep it busy.

edit: that tracking frost breath is very bad news for squishy NB damagers........

Yes, I love all the shouts and different effects and the fact that I keep dying xD. They are very fun. I don't know if it was the same before (just bought Elsweyr) but I specifically love when they take flight and come back like a WWII airplane to lay waste in a straight line. The lightning dragon actually hides in clouds! :#

BTW; is there somewhere I can check exactly the shouts? I understand something like "ah-gro-noth" when they summon Atronachs, that's now my favorite after Fus-roh-dah.

Not a fan. I really don't think you should need Purge to survive encounters that you'll mostly be doing with Randos. The Frost AoE does way, way, way, way, way too much damage for melee characters to be of much use at all.

But mostly, I"m just concerned about new players or alts trying to get them done in a year or so. It was already getting hard to put together a large enough group to kill the things during off-hours before the update. The way they are now? Forget about it.

I understand this point of view, but at the same time, they are Dragons! I think new players will mostly have more fun seeing that they are epic instead of a big dummy monster. But yes, even I, who plays since beta felt a bit frustrated at some point I kept dying, but I still prefer it this way.

About that frost damage, I'm not entirely sure, but I think what really kills you is when you stay on the border of the blizzard, but if you stay inside is not that much dmg. Could be wrong. About the purge, you can get the one from Alliance is not that hard, I don't ever pvp but I had to get the Horn anyway I did 3 battlegrounds and got both.

Yes you are. Border, near center, doesn't matter. It does massive damage that squishy characters doesn't really have a chance to survive, unless they're lucky to have a heal and cleanse slotted, so really only some classes can do those. I've started skipping out when I see an ice dragon, I'll just jump to the next one. Once the next chapter comes out and Elsweyr goes as dead as Summerset, Morrowind and Clockwork City are... those dragons are never going to be killed again expect on special occasions. They may be fun now, but will provide newer players in a years time nothing but frustration in trying to complete dailies for unlocking the Dragon Guard Hold.

This has truthfully not been thought through at all from a long term play perspective. Looking at these dragons and their mechanics, and the game as a whole, it is beginning to feel like the game isn't going to last that much longer. That the devs don't care if things are doable on the daily in a years time, because the chance that the game is even around then is minuscule.

You should be. Outside of the event it's hard to get a group together to even kill keelsplitter in Summerset, even when I say I am a tank that can stand in the red all day.

Give it 6 months, the zone will be dead, and the dragons... won't be.

Hmm, if they can update the dragons, can't they also unlock all the closed doors and fill up the buildings? I seriously won't be mad if Rich decides to throw that in at any time in the future by saying, "Sorry, didn't have time to furnish the map, it's done now though! Also, here's all the recipes we didn't give you, you can find these in the game too." ;)

I highly doubt the code was completely unfinished at the release of northern elsweyr. I have a suspicion that they originally intended the current dragon mechanics to be released with northern but the code had issues and it took time to correct it so they simplified them in a bandaid for release.

Yeah those ice dragons have made me adjust my tactics, so I can’t just sit at the edge of bow range and plink away at them. Anything that changes the repetition of pre-Dragonhold dragons is a plus in my book. Makes players think about their tactics rather than just burn them down.

I hope everyone who are so overjoyed by the new dragon mechanics are willing to help people with these monsters in 6-12 months when the zones are dead and gathering a team is more or less impossible. You know, like Summerset, Clockwork City, Morrowing, Orsinium and Murkmire are, where the boss monsters are a whole lot easier than these.

I know it’s the umpteenth week of Extended Witchery or whatever, but there are still lots of players at all the spawn areas. More so than at the end of the v1 Dragon fest when there was literally no one but me at the Star Haven site. And Dragonhold is full of players chasing them down. And it’s fun.

On a backstage level, they are the new dolmens and doing the Dragonhold dragon run will be on a par with the Alik’r dolmen run - a fast, fun way to build up XP, get daily rewards, build achievements and get some vaguely decent loot. So there should always be a certain number of players doing them. If numbers did start to falter, ZOS could always add random motifs or furnishings to the various vomit packs the dragons provide.

And they’re fun. Which is a big plus.

I liked them a lot when I was playing during prime time on my main. Less fun on lower-leveled alts, but still okay if there were plenty of people around. A freaking nightmare when the zone is dead (especially the ice one, ugh).
It’s going to really suck when Elsweyr becomes a ghost town. I do hope they eventually change it to scale to the number of people wacking at it, otherwise people who are late getting the chapter and DLC are kinda screwed.

It's good fun! I love the spectacle of it, and while it's difficult, I feel like it's balanced. Everything is telegraphed and fair, and I feel like I can react organically to the situation instead of relying on rote memory. This is how fights in the game should be. I also love that spooky moment when the dragon just looks at you, and you know you've drawn its aggro, and then it starts chasing you. :D

anyone able to tank a dragon and avoid the one-shots?

    haven't really tried yet...

I'm imagining there must be some gear and rotation to get it done...

haven't really watched them closely enough to see how much of a "tell" there is for their different attacks...

anyone able to heal through their attacks?

I guess I've been lazy around them - get caught up a little in all the visuals going on...

    I love killing dragons :p

I mean, they're cool to talk to, i'd love to ride one around tamriel - but, I really like killing them the most...
