As a casual player, I understand why is the current player to player trading system supported, and why does ZOS need the gold sink, yet I am not very happy about it. From my point of view, the system just does not work, and the existence of trading addons which more or less try to simulate the global trading system supports this claim. You either enter a guild with a trader on a good spot, or you will not sell anything at all.
I feel we need the global trading model and the gold sink muse be replaced with something else. But what? The really interesting stuff is indeed on sale - on the Crown store and I understand why and also I have no problem with that. Yet we need something interesting players would like to spend their money for regularly.

Gold sinks are necessary. This video gives a pretty good explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W39TtF14i8I

I have to applaud your efforts. An AH thread without actually using the word "AH".

    The horse is thankful.

Just like anything else, @Vyvrhel, you can’t expect to reap the full benefits of the game’s trading economy if you don’t have the time to put into it.

However, casual trading guilds are perfect for players on limited gameplay time ... or have less interest in the trading side of the game.

Be sure to keep your eye out in zone chat for casual guilds looking for members. Some of them have surprisingly good trader locations. ;)

I have a trade guild with no trader at all ever and can make over 1 mil a week there.

I have a trade guild with no requirements, dues or minimums and have made up to two million a week there.

If you think you absolutely have to be in a top trade guild to make sales, you're not doing it right. You can sell just fine if you're casual or if you don't personally want the gold sinks.

    False premise.

MM and TTC do not even come close to a global trading system (aka auction house). They are player driven tools for record keeping and statistics. Big difference.

TTC is the equivalent of someone telling you that there's a good deal on X out at Y location. You still have to trek out to Y location before anyone else buys the item.

Oh and by the way, TTC actually enables you to sell reasonably priced items way out in the boonies where there's less foot traffic. People who know how to sell can still pull 1M+ a week pretty much anywhere.

With a real auction system the economy of the entire game would change around it. Everything would balance out eventually.

The trading tool addons brings it as close to a global system as they can. The point is still valid that current system does not work as a good portion of the player base would like it to. If it worked then these addons would not have been developed and become as popular as they are.

I agree that the base game tools are not satisfactory. I disagree that the popularity of these addons is justification for a global auction house. The way I see it, these tools bring out the positive aspects of the guild trader system.

The gold sink is not balanced through out the game. Neither was there a real balancing thought in creating the economy. ZOS saw the stand alone games and said, hey let's make it into a mmo but did a poor job of adapting it into a mmo. It shows in the Trade, Economy and how they approach character balance & PvP.

You have a large creation of gold from running content, fighting creatures and other game aspects that are not from the trader side of the game and yet little to no normal gold sink that you see in other mmo's. Only a small portion of these players try to sell through the trader system or do so on a sporadic basis.

You have a larger gold sink on the trader side with a decent gold sink on selling items. But a number of items you are limited on the amount you can sell as the game does not really have a item sink. You get your gear and have it until you want to get rid of it, mmo's have used the item sink to get players to replace gear and spur the economy.

Changes will be met with opposition. The strongest voiced will be by those that perceive they have something to lose and not really think about how doing so will create a healthier game.

Don't think a going to a single store front would be possible as there is a huge opposition to it. Now going to zone based store fronts might work, it also can provide some advantages in player growth for ZOS. You go from over 217 stores to around 30, makes finding items a little better, ZOS can add or subtract the number of bid slots available to get the balance to players on each server better without having to place more traders.

Not all items need to wear out but some do. Overland, non-veteran content and craftable sets should be breakable. The veteran gear should not as it takes some work to have these and it's a great incentive to do veteran level. Make wanting to use repair kits more desirable before items break. Veteran gear you can use repair kits prior to it hitting zero, but once at zero should be taken to a merchant to repair back into service. These will help to balance the gold sink out a bit more.

leaving off here as these are some big waves. There are a number of other gold sinks that can be done within the game, but this is a start.

How are they not satisfactory? What aspects do they bring out and how? You have said little and leave a lot for interpretation.

I disagree with the premise that you need to be in a trading guild to sell items. I’ve never been in a ‘trading guild’ yet have never had an issue with selling items for gold. There are many casual guilds that don’t have any fees or dues that maintain a trader out in the middle of nowhere you can join.

Sure you might not get the same markup as you do with a good location, but if you price items reasonably they will sell. And worst comes to worst, go to an active zone and just say “WST xxxx for xxxx gold”. Again, if you are offering items for a fair price you should be able to sell them, and the lack of a markup is made up for by the lack of the trader’s cut if trading in person.
