Eh, not my sort of thing - but obviously if they were going to add something like that, there would likely be those who would love it.

Hmm...only if they stayed in your home. The last thing we need to see is sorcs (example) running around with two combat pets, one non-combat pet, merchant/banker and their new companion.

    Silivren (Silly) Thalionwen | Altmer Templar | Magicka | 9-Trait Master Crafter/Jeweler | Master Angler | PVE Main - Killed by U35
Jahsul at-Sahan | Redguard Sorcerer | Stamina | Werewolf - Free Bites | PVP Main
Derrok Gunnolf | Redguard Dragonknight | Stamina | Werewolf - Free Bites
    Liliana Littleleaf | 9-Trait Grand Master Crafter/Jeweler (non-combat)
Amber Emberheart | Breton Dragonknight | Stamina | Master Angler
Vlos Anon | Dunmer Nightblade | Magicka | Vampire - Free Bites
Kalina Valos | Dunmer Warden | Magicka | Vampire - Free Bites
    Swiftpaws-Moonshadow | Khajiit Nightblade | Stamina
Morgul Vardar | Altmer Necromancer | Magicka
Tithin Geil | Altmer Sorceress | Magicka
Dhryk | Imperial Dragonknight | Stamina

Her name will be Lydia. She will eat all the sweetrolls, fight all the giants, and stand in all the doorways.

As for recurring companions with ongoing storylines, that's how we got Sai Sahan and
    Darien
. Possibly Lyris soon, if we get Skyrim as some suggest.

I think it would be cool if Zos sold people packs in the Crown Store like they do furnishing packs. Like a group of NPC sailors, or island people, or villagers to fill in the homes.

Personally I would hate it. My last dungeon run, I was tanking and I had 2 sorc pets, a warden bear, the Maw was spawning stacked on me, Mad Tinkerer and Atro all in my face. I couldn't even see the boss. Factor that in with cosmetic pets and left out merchants/bankers. It was like being in a rave.

They wont do dungeons or trials they cant fight anyway, so you wont be able to summon them there. They are nice complex npc maybe some can teach the game mechanics too!!! they can introduce us to lore from the game make exploration more rewarding! a lots of things! then they can be in our house/base

I'd like to place all my character in my home. So all but the one you're currently using will have a spot and maybe a small animation to be doing something. using a practice dummy, sleeping in a bed, reading a book, drinking, gardening, etc. Sit 4 of 'em round a table playing cards.

You think you want that but you don't.

It was a cool idea on paper for Bioware's SWTOR, but it proves to be almost impossible to keep updated as the expansions come along.

Now that may work do a small quest chain with the companion then have them hang out in your home, and use them as another way to complete dailies.

This is an MMO, like it or not. What's next... 3 AI to run dungeons with? Hm, might be an improvement over pugs.

Well yeah. But you said you didn’t want them to be able to fight? What other use are they going to have? Say the same few lines of dialogue every so often?

SWTOR does this and for game balance it screwed everything up. From the player perspective the additional management (including gearing, etc.., which they ultimately removed and replaced with a number) also shows people didn't like that either.
Their best contribution is to story richness, but embedding them and tracking all permutations of interactions and decisions is a huge undertaking.

Not impossible but not a decision to be taken lightly and it involves a lot more than you think.

I'd love to be able to have a companion of sorts, but I would want to be able to CHOOSE for myself, and not necessarily from a tiny stable of possible characters.

For example, my Dunmer Sorceror, in my own bit of headcanon, developed a thing with Sergeant Seyne on Bleak Rock. I'd love to have been able to take her as a companion to be part of his adventures.

I don't think they could restrict them to player housing, since not everyone uses it, and there's something nice about showing off your companions for others to see.

So, YES! I'm definitely on board with having traveling companions. They should be non combat only (though, perhaps could have a function, like handing off junk to be sold, kind of like TOR does), and we should be able to choose them from any NPCs in the game.

That there are SO many mods for games like Skyrim that allow for this is ample evidence of a demand for it.

In Guild Wars 1 you could use several AI characters to run the missions with. Honestly, they were crap, but it was doable that way. Might be an idea for normal dungeons.

I have asked for this a long time ago. So if it ever becomes available I will buy a healer. With a restriction that they won't follow you to any PvP zones. They could say you don't pay them enough to go to the actual war.
    My Characters.

    Mike Snow - Imperial - Templar - One-Handed and Shield - Tank - Daggerfall Covenant - Commander.
Catelyn Rivers - Breton - Sorcerer - Destruction Staff - Daggerfall Covenant - Telvanni Magister.
Ashara Sand - Redguard - Warden - Two-Handed/One-Handed and Shield - Daggerfall Covenant - Heroic.
    Tormund gro-Largash - Orsimer - Dragonknight - Two-Handed - Daggerfall Covenant - Furious.
Lysa Rivers - Breton - Nightblade - Bow/One-Handed and Shield - Vampire - Daggerfall Covenant - Brassy Assassin.

    Jon Karstark - Nord - Dragonknight - Two-Handed - Ebonheart Pact - Drunk.
Arya Sand - Dunmer - Dragonknight - Dual Wield - Ebonheart Pact - Assassin.
Sansa Snow - Impeial - Warden - Destruction Staff/One-Handed and Shield - Ebonheart Pect - Swashbuckler.

I thank we should have them for overland areas not dungeons, arenas or trials tho and they off set you toons classes per say your an healer gets dps/acceptable damage/no healing, dps gets an healer/ low area heal/medium self heal and tanks get an dps/with acceptable damage/low self heal if you let die 5xs in an day they get an 24hr spun timer placed on them only useable up to lvl 45 of your toons then they get moved to your home so you could have an max of 18 of them doing things around the house after you lvl them up like in crafting ,war, art/ decorating , by having them in your travels while doing each active you want them to learn to do as you lvl yourself up too

Don't think this will gonna be implemented in the near future. Enjoy the company of scamps, pigs and puppies or go play swtor (for example) ;) Overland is "balanced" around you with no companion and frankly speaking super easy as it is.

    And empty holes it fills,
It comes first and follows after,

For new players an idea like i put about could make learning the game mechanics better on them as i find with overland being so easy now newer players never truly get an understanding of what they are ment to do as vet players i understand that for vet players we'd have no use in them for training but in home would be cool too id like to go to my 100$ house and see it being used even if just by NPC'S
