Would you like a 4-man "mini-trial" style dungeon/arena?

Just bosses, each with a hardmode.
The poll on hardest DLC dungeon hardmode had me thinking, dlc dungeon hardmodes are about the most enjoyable thing in the game (for me at least) and I would LOVE a 4-man mini trial that just consists of good boss fights and hardmodes.

Heck, even if there was just a boss rush mode where you go through all hardmode dlc dungeon last bosses, that'd be fun

It would make sense if ZOS were going to build another arena to make it completely modular, so in essence each round would be effectively independent and could be played with any number of players (say 1 - 4). The arena could then be a random selection of rounds.

It would be as lore compliant as Maelstrom Arena, but ZOS would be able to add new rounds in whenever they pleased and rounds could be as diverse as they could imagine. So you could have anything from the final fight from an existing dungeon to a never ending stream of adds.

Might be an interesting way of continuing to develop content for the top players while also providing something interesting for the rest of us.

    1. comparing DSA to dlc dung hardmodes is a big ?
    2. DSA has many rounds of adds (directly contradicting mini trial description and boss rush description)
    3. not only does DSA not have a hardmode for each boss, it literally has NO hardmode

in the two new dungeons, is there any one shot that is unfair??? play the mechanics and you won't die

tbh it's hard to think of one shots that are unfair in dlc dungeons currently, outside of ones due to the game glitching or UI lagging

If you anticipate worst case scenarios, and are not just willy nilly not caring only playing reactively (if that) then it's easy to not die in any content for the most part (as soon as you let your brain learn it forever and lose that space to eso for all eternity)

You can do veteran DSA and there is also brp which also has veteran. Has adds yep, but it comes very close to what you want. Because even raids have adds.

    So, basically, a DLC dungeon?

PS adds are there for you to build ultis on.

TBH I don't understand why people are being so purposefully obtuse. OP wants a 4man content based on the mini-trial concept of Asylum and kind of Cloudrest, featuring only boss fights and hard modes of those boss fights. They obviously know other arenas exist and it's not what they're suggesting.

I know this isn't a reply to me, but you have ample time to use multiple ultis on end hardmode bosses regardless of starting with an ultimate up.

if adds are there just to build ultimate on, that's bad game design

The only part of Blackrose that's close to what OP describes is Arena 4, and it's still not that close. I think people need to stop focusing on the word 'arena' here and more on the 'boss-rush where it's just DLC bosses after another' part. I think it's neat.

Yes! but not brp, I don't think those bosses are designed particularly well.

A better example would be LoM hardmode into SCP hardmode into MoS hardmode, into MGF hardmode, into FV hardmode
    That's the kinda thing I'm getting at^

Basically he's suggesting a dungeon (arena/trials) but without the actual dungeon - no trash mobs, no lore - just straight to the point boss fights with hardmodes. Not sure if he's possibly suggesting more of a challenge as well: "not only does DSA not have a hardmode for each boss, it literally has NO hardmode" regardless, his idea contradicts a challenge. Once you know the mechanics of a fight it becomes boring, at least in a dungeon you can rush to the boss taking the adds with you increasing the challenge slightly for the first minute or two.

Having a boss with unpredictable mechanics would be an interesting challenge, but so is running with three pugs who have no idea what's going on.

by that logic, nothing in this game is challenging, because with enough practice everything is predictable.
taking adds with you to bosses is predictable too,
and let's not forget, many dungeons prevent you from taking any adds to to the last boss and reading hardmode, and even if you can take adds, taking adds + non hardmode is waaaaaayyyyy easier than hardmode

It is common knowledge that in most dungeons you cannot bring mobs to the last boss, let alone activate the hardmode scroll while in combat. That's not what I was referring to, that was aimed towards some of the bosses along the way that has potential to making the dungeon a little more interesting. I had vSCP (Orzun & Rinaerus) in mind at the time, apparently I should have been more transparent. Sure the out come may be predictable; your group will either successfully burn down the adds on top of the nailing the boss mechanics or simply wipe. You'd at least get a brief adrenaline rush regardless of the predictability. Also the nice thing about dungeons & etc are the achievements, some of them require your entire group being on the same page which can be more challenging than some of the boss fights where you can just carry a person through if they fail, but because most of the achievements are not very rewarding (aside from skins) people don't care to do them.

You obviously missed one of the things I mentioned, or intentionally left it out: "Having a boss with unpredictable mechanics would be an interesting challenge." Sure you can learn how to recognize and properly execute mechanics, but having a boss fight that is completely RNG based with lets say 25+ different mechanics, one of them being thrown at you at any given moment along with RNG based environmental mechanics - will - at the very least keep you on your toes thus making it more of a challenge to complete compared to the current rinse and repeat mechanics. That was my point behind said logic. I just don't see the fun in being spoon feed sole boss fights, let alone see it increasing the challenge. That's for pure convenience, especially if your motive is to get all their potential rewards after each fight.

the random mechanics is cool but I just don't think it's worth the development time

something simple though like having rakkat's 3 orb mechanics be random at each pad vs set would add a good element of unpredictability to fights.

achievements are fun, but what do you do when have them all?

back to the adds thing though, no pre last boss fight with adds, is more interesting than the last boss on hardmode, that point still holds
