Is ESO a social experiment?

This game is literally pushing boundaries of human patience, they keep introducing new bugs and just making the game less enjoyable with every patch... my theory is that this is one big ass social experiment to find out how hard you can push people before they burn down your HQ...

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was true lol

they literally havnt fixed the bugs introduced in early beta yet, so i do believe the games almost completely automated with an inhouse rule to ignore the customer and continue to do nothing, its very possible its a social experiment to see what people will tolerate

People who run actual social experiments on people have to fill out a lot more paperwork to make sure their experiments are ethical.

Sorry, it takes a big business to get away with this level of frustration-inducing, patience-testing shenanigans with very little oversight and still make money from it.

That's what ESO is: a game, run by a gaming company that wants to make money, ultimately acting according to the bottom line and budget constraints.

I think ESO was just the warmup, Fallout '76 is the real experiment on how far you can push people before they break. The whole premise of the vaults is that they were social experiments.

Think about it, they now want people to pay $100 a year so they can play their MMO solo!
No seriously, think about that for a second ...

Of course they do. Everyone would like their customers to give them more money. The actually sad part is how many of us are falling in line. But hey, they "spent $5000 on X rl consumable" so it's actually great value for them to spend $1000+ a year on a 'game as a service'!

I knew this was coming as soon as I saw people spending hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars on Star Citizen. That surely made every publisher salivate and dream of ways to extract more from gamers.

Unfortunately, I have more patience for the highly inconvenient and rage inducing bugs each week than I do for the majority of people I end up grouped with. Sometimes, I enjoy looking at a load screen for ten minutes and that's not saying much.

They really made a big mistake framing that as a "subscription" with things like monthly crowns/etc.

Because the genre that Fallout 76 is in? MP Survival Crafting? Has had paid private servers for years. Conan Exilest, Ark, Minecraft... it's totally normal.

But because they called it subscriptions, and tied all that other crap to it, you have people making all sorts of comments like this. Their PR group really messed up.

edit: of course, all the problems FO76 had before that didn't help.
(and no, I don't have or play FO76 - and part of why I originally didn't get it is because I didn't want to be stuck on open servers with pvp/griefer yahoos.)

Technically yes. When you think about all the horrible micro transactions from creation club, blades, wolfenstein young bloods, 76 and the crown store, ask yourself which came first and which has been most successful.

The answer? ESO and it’s crown store.
