To Vamp or Not to Vamp

As I sit here “working” and waiting for the update on console, I was thinking about PVP last night. Specifically the part where I seemed to be knocked over every 5 seconds.

This used to never be a problem for me despite a low stamina build. This morning it dawned upon me “that’s right dummy, you’re not a vampire anymore.”

If you happened to be the masochist type who enjoys looking back at 4 year old posts you’ll see a bunch from me promoting Mist Form before it was popular. Over time I got away from using it and then last year I decided to remove Vamp entirely because the fire damage in Cyrodiil had gotten a bit outrageous.

Anyway, anyone who has played as a Vamp in the new update, what are your thoughts? Is Mist Form worth the Vamp fire damage now?

Its PVE Character? Make it a Vampire. PVP? Unless you like to be mass violated by DKs or anyone using a Inferno staff, stay mortal. Thats my opinion

I only play vampire on my Stamplar by now (since I can purge the firedamage), on any other class I got rid of it, MagDKs just destroy you in Cyro, get stunned and one whip can be your end, they just deal insanely high damage.

That’s the thing. For years I would pull off ridiculous stuff in PVP simply because of two things, Mist Form and the passive Undeath. I wasn’t getting mass violated by DKs because they couldn’t catch me. Now ... my corpse is basically a dance floor in any fight that lasts more than 10 seconds. If I’m on my feet I can survive against crazy stuff ... but once my immovable pot wears off I’m kind of screwed now. I tried a few builds yesterday as a test and saw no difference defensively between 24k resists and 15k. All that seemed to matter was avoiding the roots and knockdowns.

I know I could spec into an unkillable Templar troll build but I don’t want to because I like playing a glass cannon so deaths are gonna happen. I think it was less frustrating the other way to be honest.

I haven’t played Vamp in a while but in this scenario wouldn’t hitting mist form remove the stun instantly?

Wait what, there are people playing without vampire? Usually any friendly I see sneaking is a vampire and for myself I couldn't pass it only because of the regen passive.

I played it for YEARS. Hell, I played Magplar Vamp before it was the meta. About a year ago I started trying out new things and noticed that I could survive without. Seems that somewhere in the last 6 months (I took a hiatus) the root, stun, knockdown meta on XBox NA went from prevalent to everywhere.

Hence why I’m looking back into it. Have you had a lot of issues with fire?

Of course fire damage is a bit higher on me, but I play as a Breton so I can reach the softcap on spell resistance very easily. Also I think the undeath passive has saved my ass much more than the extra fire damage has killed me. No numbers so it is just my personal experience from being and not being a vampire the last year.

We’re in the same boat then. I always said that Undeath was the best passive in the game. When people would argue I had nothing but anecdotal evidence to back me up. I really think that Undeath did more for me than any armor or resist ever did. Glad to know I’m not the only one.

Well, I'm more of a PVE player but, vamp has become my main for two reasons; the blood drain reminds me of the old Blood Omen game, (Vae victis!) and she uses her left hand to do it. Being a left-handed player, I found her the easiest character to relate to. It's really more of an rp choice for me.

I spent a little time in Cyrodil over the weekend. Didn’t take long and I’m up to 200th place in line for emp. Some years ago, that would casually be in the thousands of place behind.

Maybe what you’re experiencing is; there’s no in experienced people to roll over anymore. And you’re playing a stamplar Witch hasn’t been doing super great PvP wise lately.

Now wait. Don’t get offended. What I mean is; a lot of the PvP’ers out here now are somewhat hardcore. They’re gonna put up a fight. You’re a stamplar. All your ult’s suck. You got f all for burst. Got some hard hitting jabs. But sustain is a$$ until people start dying.

Vamp is not gonna change that.

Go see what the Dueling dudes that hang out around the undaunted area are doing. Dueling type builds work very freaking good in pretty much all aspects of PvP. IMO.

Stage 4 on my PvP Sorc - If you have the ability/mobility to escape or los the fire & dawnbreakers then yes. I love the undeath & sneaking perks. My StamNecro is a much less mobile, more tanky brawler and not vamp so he can withstand the Fighters guild stuff and fire. I also like building into health recovery sometimes on the Necro which vamp prevents.

Vampire Stamblade Dark Elf here. I really like Dark Stalker passive. Also Undeath and Regen passives are cool. I do lot of PvP

Since its stamblade, i dont know about tanking stuff in PvP but i manage to survive pretty good amd sometimes i dont even know what im doing lol. that undeath passive is very good.

im scared of magplars and dawnbreaker( even tho it got nerfed) thats it.

Btw Being a Dunmer doesnt do much for the extra fire damage though. Only 2-3% less damage taken and wont make much of a difference.

    I think vampire’s situationally good,

I like it on my magblade because cloak lets me choose who I fight, so I ignore DKs.

Otherwise the main downside these days isn’t dawnbreaker but vicious death in keeps. Vicious death is fire damage and random player deaths take me down a lot.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

My Templar got bit by accident once years ago, when getting bit in the wild was like winning the lottery. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

Mist feels largely irrelevant with RaT being so accessible. However, depending on the build/class and your overall goals it’s still an option. Most stamina players I run into nowadays switched over to 2H ultimate from DB so that’s something to consider.

What?! Magplar? That’s supposed to be easy mode. You just need get Güd. You got the good jabs, Jesus beam. Maybe a soul assault to the face. Wtf else you need?

One thing stands true. Not many potatoes to fight anymore. Anyone that’s there is already hooked, because PvP in this game is not that good that anyone would want to start playing.

Edit: trying to make a joke. Hope it’s well recieved. I dont know if undeath is really gonna make or break anything, but being able to mist away at will giving you a good option to engage or disengage targets at will could be super handy.

Yeah ... it doesn’t exactly work like that and considering I’ve run circles around you in PVP hundreds of times you definitely shouldn’t be the one giving out Git Gud advice.
