Cauterize today - yes or no?

For stam dk - I still see cauterize being slotted on most pvp builds, but is it due to old habit? After we got vigor changes I fail to the reason - vigor heals 3 times more, we have rally. Cauterize heal feels sk minor. That and spel crit buff. I tempted to slot something more usefull..

Do you use it today?

Bar 1: stone giant, fossi, cauterize (?), rally, exe.
Bar 2: venom, breath, fol armor, vigor, frag shield.

I think about slotting chains, or gap closer, or low slash..

Its still a very good heal, using it with Vigor can just do good, as sometimes the pressure is too high to get outhealed by vigor.

I use it because I like having a mag and stam heal. When I'm pressured I can use my mag heal while I gain back stam.

I'm an old timey DK trying Cauterize for the first time this patch.I keep rotating between:

Dizzy + Camo Hunter, frag shield on back bar
Rocktoss + Claw, Cauterize on back bar.

Dizzy plays better inCP due to exploiter passive, Rocc seems to be working better in no CP.

In BGs you want to use it to boost your medal score.

It’s because ratio wise cauterize heals quite a lot for the cheap Magicka cost (over 15 seconds it profs 4 times - once at the very start when you activate it). Vigor is a short term burst heal but you can cast cauterize and enter battle to gain sustain while you’re fighting and taking damage. Basically it sort of acts as an extra buff for your HP regen somewhat and as mentioned by others having two sources of HoT can help you sustain even if you do run rally as a burst heal since rally works around once per 20s only. Also, the medal score is because cauterize gets to heal your allies sometimes so it helps with supporting your teammates.

Free heal over time, no-brainer really. I would maybe consider flames of oblivion if it could do physical damage when used by a stamina Dk. Even though caut lacks the weapon crit , having an extra HoT , one that costs cheap at that , feels like a very nice break from all the 3-4k+ magicka cost abilities Dk have.

With poopfist as spammable, Cauterize over Fragmented Shield?

Cauterize gives a flat 3-4k heal every 5 seconds and on cast, and cost half the magicka.

personally; NEVER leave out Frag Shield.

6-sec of boosted heal is a must no matter what build you're on.

it's a 7k+ heal tick every 5 sec that's good for you when ur too busy to hit Vigor, and a nice heal to people around u that most likely there with you on the same goal.....

For MagDKs, what about the other morph of cauterize, the damage variant. The damage looks decent and I was thinking it could be timed with your burst.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

fireball every 5-sec isnt just a MagDK thing. it's a stamDK staple for PvE build. the damage is indeed very decent and it boosts wep crit too.

but realistically, in CP PvP, DK loves additional heals.

You need snare removal on your bar. Personally I'd swap rally for FM, I survive well with caut / vigor / frag shield.

    agree. especially now Rally only heals at the end (or when u trigger it second time, i believe?), it's much better to use Forward Momentum;

or if you're crazy on class identity like me, go with Molten Armaments..... i love it for when i need to stun people after Dizzying, it actually hits damn hard......

I think it wins big time on cost effectiveness and the fact that its a heal over time also saves you a headache. Now if only it had weapon crit it would be simply perfect

forget weapon crit, i want Minor Brut just like the FOO morph....

so FOO adds the flame balls, Caut adds the heals. Both morphs should have both spell crit and wep crit.

You know how they give every class a stacking mechanic of sorts, they could have done that with flames of oblivion instead of stonefist...

Each dot tick gives one fireball , up to 5. That'd be cool, and potentially overpowered

Edit: But I'd be so cool to have not one but 5 fireballs floating around you. It wouldn't be as cool as original FoO but still...

And yeah I absolutely agree both morphs need to have both crit types. Its not fair to stamDk this way.

i'm sorry, do you mean every time i apply a DoT to an enemy, it creates an additional fireball?

what does that extra ball do? hit an extra target?

so if I apply 5 DoT within a specific period, i can have 5 fireballs that hits 5 closest enemy? and as long as i apply some kind of DoT somewhere, i can keep these 5 balls?

I think that would be awesome, and not overpowered at all.

    want to make overpowered?

multiple balls can hit a single target.........

The fireballs release every 5 sec similar to how it currently works, the number depends on how many dot ticks you got, up to a max of 5. So you hit up to 5 people, I guess. Currently FoO hits up to 2 people I think.
