Unsure what to do in Battlegrounds - any tips to improve?

Hi all,
So I've been trying to do Battlegrounds for the past few evenings to see how my new character fares against other players and I can't really seem to get my grasp on what to do. Basically what happens is I accept the queue pop and then I see this really beautiful drawing for about five minutes. After that I'm back where I started and I can queue again. Everytime I go back in the drawing is different. I really like them but I'm unsure what to do with them.
I wasn't expecting BGs to be this abstract, what exactly am I supposed to do? Is it like an art contest where I have to try to redraw the art visible on my screen during these five minutes and then compare my drawing with other players on the forums?
Any help would be appreciated.
