set bonus

I have been playing this game for 4 years. The game is awesome, I do love it, but not the set bonus system. In my opinion, having a specific enchantment for each single item is better than having set bonus, your thoughts?

What is a "specific skill enchantment"?

ok something like 'reduce the stamina cost of XXX skill', or 'increase XXXX damage for XXX skill' or 'when you cast XXX spell, you will gain XXX resource back' or 'when you get hit, there is a chance to cast XXX spell automaticly' etc.

This is an MMO, where anything that can be added to make repeat play necessary, will be added. Without sets, you wouldn't have to collect sets, so that extra time wouldn't be incurred.

But I like the reward for the effort, so don't take it away.

Could you give an example, be it a skill or set of what you are talking about?

Sounds like what we have with all the arena weapons. Do you mean that you want to see similar one-piece “sets” on armor and jewelry?

I fear that in the scheme of things, each item has just 1 slot in it's description for "Enchantment", but I can see room for a set (Crafted I hope) like the Twice-Born Star that allows for 2 mundus stones to have an extra "Enchantment" slot that affects all the pieces applicable... but I fear that is not what the OP is talking about... because each piece already has a specific enchantment...

My best guess is that the OP is talking about the Set Bonuses, where having 2 pieces of a set would grant you a bonus, 3 another and so on, maxing out at 5... instead having a bonus granted by the specific piece... IMO this would defeat the "Set" aspect, we get bonuses for having 2, 3, 4 or 5 pieces, the bonuses come from the items synergizing with each other...

Otherwise my tank would be wearing the Ebon Armory Chest because it grants the extra health, Alkosh shield for the debuff, torugs pact legs for the what ever... aka, no sets... no set, no synergy, no bonus...
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

I rather like the current system. There are sets with 2 (arena, monster), 3 (pvp, daily rewards), and 5 (normal) bonus values. The sheer number of sets combined with the variety of 2,3,5 piece bonus allows for very deep theory-crafting and specialized/niche builds.

Then add on top of that enchants, traits, quality (purple, gold), potions/poisons, etc. It's actually pretty staggering.

I recall when all sets were 3 piece. Things changed dramatically when they switched things up to make them 5.

Hijacking the thread, I apologize, but I really do think that the game has the potential for fetishes and totems. Items to add to a weapon/shield/armor piece to enhance something about it. Totems could interact with other totems. Fetishes likewise. Fetishes and Totems would reduce the effectiveness of each other if a mixture was used, but new effects would be unlocked by different combinations. Players could only have 3 fetishes/totems active at a time.

Totems would provide a defensive/healing bonus. Fetishes an offensive one. The player would need to level up the totem/fetish in order to unlock it's full potential. Players would need to spend Champion Points to get the fetish/totems. So an account could only get so many of these powerful artifacts. Applying a totem or fetish to an item makes it so it can only be wielded by that Character.

Same here, but the idea circumvents running content to get specific gear pieces ... by allowing players to just slap an enchantment on generic equipment.

Not an idea ZOS is going to embrace very well ...

I think the enchantments are definitely important, and that this can be something people might be overlooking when they talk about how a particular set is "trash." The specific 2-, 3-, and 4-item bonuses can be important, especially if you want to add to them with similar enchantments, but I think it's really the 5-item bonus that determines whether a given set is truly desirable-- or in some cases the 4-item bonus as well, since some sets do have some nice 4-item bonuses.

Part of me misses named items having a meaning like in Warcraft or diablo, where as everything in ESO is driven by the almighty 2/3/4/5 set pieces, regardless of it's named.

The joy of grinding out a set and getting a rare Sword of Something was so good.

Now the only near fleeting feeling of that joy is just getting a burning spell weave inferno.

You felt joy? I envy you. When I finally got mine (after hundreds of dungeon crawls) all I felt was...resentment. I salute you.

I disagree. Set bonuses create more build variety and allow for more creativity. There's a lot more strategy and nuance involved with combining and matching the right bonuses together than just collecting stamina/health/magicka gear.

I never felt joy chasing gear in WoW.

I knew it was a limited time thing, to be replaced with a lame quest green in the next expansion, completely disregarding the time and effort it took to acquire such an item.

It filled me with sadness after the initial thrill.

But then you get stuck in a rut like me, and I have nothing to gun for- no gear to chase, no monsters to kill. And I've been wearing the same gear for several patches, cus my DPS is 'yep good enough, 5k more or 2k less here and there, same damn sets'.

I just miss named weapons meaning a damn from other games. I mean, they're named in ESO! They should be cool, look cool and do something cool if they are worthy of a name!
