Winterborn set not proccing as it should.

I decided to try out winterborn as I do lots of frost damage. It became obvious very quickly that it is not proccing with the frequency that it should. I decided to test it. People have said that there is no cooldown so in theory it should proc on 8% of all frost damage. When I just used one type of frost dmg per second, like winter's revenge, it seemed to proc maybe just below 8%. However, when I stack up my frost abilities, it drops to only 3%.

50 / 1581 attacks = around 3.2% proc rate. I repeated the test and got similar results again.

Please fix this set! It needs some love and would be great if it was effective for a frosty magden!

Well techinically there would be a cooldown since it cant proc while it persists for 2s. But it does say frost damage abilities, So it would not proc off of Light Attacks, Ice Heart, or Ulti as i dont believe they are classed as abilities.

The set probably should be changed to when you deal frost damage.

I can confirm that it procs from ice ulti, from frost destro staff light attack, from frost enchants and from iceheart. Only thing that is difficult to test is chilled as there is other frost dmg involved at the same time.

Good to know, then they should maybe update the sets tooltip and increase the proc chance.

If this is true. That math is a little harder to figure out.

50 hits, means it was active for 100seconds, the parse was 320s long. It was active for roughly 31% of the fight.

    1581 Frost Damage Ticks/320s = 4.9 ticks a second. Let's round up to 5.

To calculate the chance per second of it procing you reverse the 8% in to 92%, the chance of it NOT procing a second:

    .92 * .92 * .92 * .92 * .92 = .659

    Reverse that number back:

    1 - .659 = .3409

So, your chance to proc the set effect per second at 5 frost ticks a second should be roughly 34%.

Let's just say that is 1 proc every 3 seconds, include the 2s duration and that is 1 proc every 5 seconds, that means it should be active at least 20% of your fight, yet you had 31% of the fight.

If all of that is true and my math isn't wrong (probably is)... it's actually proccing pretty frequently all things considered.

So yeah, I mean it's about as strong as a monster set bonus for the damage it does, but remember it includes utility with the slow it provides and it's aoe. I doubt the set would ever be buffed because it tripple dips. If it did single target frost damage with no slow, then yes, it would need a buff.

    2 Winterborn secrets:

It does have a hidden cooldown - 2 seconds. Since only 1 can be up at a time

And it deals higher damage per hit than the tooltip states.

On my frost build, Icy Conjuror was causing more DPS than Winterborn

The proc chance needs to be increased. As it is now it is way too infrequent even if you have multiple sources of ice damage ticking away.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Icy mages in vMA give us the most hell, frost viable DPS should be a thing!

We're getting there slowly. I think Ice is fine as the tanking/utility style ZOS is aiming for, but Mag Wardens are where ZOS should let people play as Ice Mages. Same should hold true for Sorc's as Lightning mages. With the recent buff from 6% Frost/Magic damage to 10%, it just became a litter easier to do that and it smells like ZOS is considering the path I've been hoping for, for a long time. Next stop should be CP. Giving that CP power back to class passives like 10% Frost damage is a start.
