Just got scammed - a warning

UPDATE: Just got Pack Leader broth from a drop

Also got 3 Disastrously Bloody Mara and two Bewitched Skull recipes

It was my own fault for not checking.

Someone advertised Pack Leader Broth recipe in chat for sale. Once we met up for the trade, I offered the agreed upon amount of gold of 75k. He leaves his side of the trade blank until I have shown the money.

He takes ages to submit the item and ended up giving me a single broth drink instead of the recipe.

Yes I should have double checked but I was in a rush to play some other games with my Nephew. Just wanted to remind people to be careful!

P.S I’m not giving tips. Don’t try this method or simply don’t scam. It’s very easy to get caught!

I've seen some nifty tricks, but they are usually done via COD as the scammers hope you won't check the attachments or merely look at the image (and that's where they'll get you because the image sorta looks like the item you want...specifically for materials). Either way, it sucks. But hopefully you won't make the same mistake twice. #Wisdom

You know they cannot provide the name. No naming and shaming.

Never press trade until their part is placed into the trade window. Also, never press trade twice. You probably did the first.

That really sucks. Why are people like this? It might be worth reporting him, I don't know that support could/would do anything, but it might be good to let them know incase he's doing it to other people.

You should try EVE - scamming is just another form of PvP.

You can log in too, which is nice. (Just lost the ESO log-in lottery after not playing for 6 months.)

Keeping yourself safe is definitely a good skill to have. You know what else is a good thing?

Trading what you advertised to trade to the other person and not being a gigantic **** to people.

I agree 100%. But real people play this game, so we will always find those gigantic *****.

We have to be careful when trading.

This is a good thread especially now when trading is at a peak with writs, recipes, etc. Take your time and always ensure both you and the other player have the items in the trade window. GL everyone!

I haven't seen that recipe on any traders for less than 150k (there have probably been some, but no doubt snatched up quick). If someone is advertising for 1/2 the going price, that's a hint to be on alert.

I was going to say something similar (though, more respectful), but I had assumed the post merely did not include the phrase recipe when in fact the original agreement was for a recipe (again, I assumed this due to the 75k amount).

Do you think the person was advertising in zone...

"WTS Pack Leader Broth (drink, not recipe) for 75k. Yes I know that price is about 20 times what you should be paying for the food, but just do it anyway."

No, the person was advertising a trade for one thing, then completed the trade with another thing probably on purpose with the intent to get extra gold out of someone. We should always be safe when trading and double check, but that does not excuse the actions of the individual that tried to get 20 times the going rate on a one time food item.

So sorry this happened to you! Just to clarify, they were advertising the recipe and not the item in zone chat? Sometimes people make ridiculous offers in zone chat, thankfully usually pointed out by people with some kind of price check info.

Definitely a good reminder to double check both sides before hitting trade!

It depends then how exactly it was written in chat.
If it was "WTS Pack Leader Broth", then that should raise alarm bells if it could mean either the drink or the recipe.

People tend to link the item when selling as its just easier than typing it out, so its usually obvious what you're getting. Cant remember the last time I saw someone trying to sell in zone without providing a link.

Here on PS4 NA you can get that for 10k at many shops. Why? Most of the players have been cheating and exploiting a glitch that caused them to get around 10 skulls per minute. People in my guild told me about this. Because of this glitch, people have been getting skulls at ridiculous rates and getting tons of rare items for almost no work.

This has made me livid. I loathe exploits and cheats. And I refuse to cheat. So I am playing the game legitimately and getting punished for it. As a trader, I have done a lot of hard work getting rare items but cannot sell them for anything because so many people have cheated that you can find those recipes in the shops for like 10k. Most new, rare items are selling for 10k or less.

Hard work deserves suitable reward. I don't want to oversell, and I don't want to undersell. I just want items to be priced reasonably.
Because these people cheated, me and everyone else who refuses to cheat now gets nothing for all the work we did. I've stopped doing anything with this festival now and am just leveling up toons. So disappointed.

I'm talking about this from a trader's perspective, but the fact of the matter is that many people cheated to get those hoards of skulls. They went against TOS. This is unacceptable, and their rewards should be revoked. I wish ZOS would do something about it, but they won't. I submitted a ticket with all the information I could glean about the exploit, but I don't know everything because I never went there or did it. I was as detailed as I could be, but the damage has been done. It won't be fixed.

Something similar happened to me where I thought I was buying the recipe, but instead got the Drink. The seller was scamming me, I was not paying attention. So, now I never buy a recipe from zone chat soon after the content that offers it.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It's incredible that after all this time we still have no update to the trade screen. It's fairly simple to fix really:

    1. Hitting the "Trade" button locks down the other guys stuff, not your stuff. This way you can't quickly alter what you have put into your window since the other guy would have to "untlock" it. You can always just escape the entire trade to cancel if you made an error.
    2. Have a 5 second countdown after both parties have hit the trade button at which point either can back out of the trade if anything looks amiss.

Best way to not get scammed is to not trust anyone except your family and long time friends that have proven themselves trust worthy. Don't buy crowns from randoms. Don't trade with strangers.

Just buy crown from eso crown store as it is the safest way and only buy from guild stores or close trusted friends you know.

The people that get scammed are risk takers.

That’s a bit extreme! Though of course you should only do what you feel comfortable with. I certainly wouldn’t buy or sell Crowns from strangers but trades are safe, just a good reminder to double-check before hitting trade. I’ve done several trades with people selling over zone chat and no one has tried to scam me, but certainly watch more closely than when trading with friends. It is always good advice to protect yourself.

Yea you could probably get your gold back and get them a temp ban. Report it to ZOS. They have chat and trade logs and will clearly see that he was "selling" the recipe in zone and traded you the food/drink. They will probably get a ban and that would be hilarious.

Report the scammer and be sure to follow up on the ticket to make sure it gets taken a look at. I really detest scammers, such a low despicable behavior.
