2020 chapter conspiracy theory - Spellcrafting

I have a feeling, if it ever does get released, the spells available will be of limited usefulness or too high of a cost to be worthwhile. I don't think it will have much depth either, such as in morrowind or oblivion, like people are hoping for.

I would like to believe that ZOS does have an idea of what they are doing now. However, with all of these crazy balance swings it makes it pretty difficult.

    Hello OP,

I am pretty sure that you are right, I have been thinking about this too. It all makes sense.

    Skyrim..... Winterhold.... Mages College.... SPELLCRAFTING!

Pretty excited about it too :-)
And so the Elder Scrolls foretold. You will be shy, and I will be bold.

Me too..It will require a lot of work but the game is more balanced now, Spellcrafting, Skyrim Chapter and if they fix the performance problem on prime time ESO will be great.

Seems to be the way the game is going anyway, where all skills are just different ratios of the same cost/damage/cast time formula. Might as well let us pick the ratios and call it spell crafting.

My take is ZOS cant fix the multiple issues with hardware. They are specifically targeting any skills with percentage modifiers to cut down on server processing. Removing modifiers completely like dodge chance etc reinforces this.

Game is getting dumb'ed down every patch and performance is getting worse. A big implementation like spell crafting would be, risky to say the least lol

They are unable to handle = patch + event + new dlc zone

and you think they will implement spellcraft ?

ALL that we are seeing implemented are only in the purpose to save space on theirs *** servers, and we are able to see the results .. it's a mess.

You wants more mess with a spellcraft ?

I will buy about an another island theory, like akaviri lands , it's the land of dragons ^^

Read what I wrote... No I don't 100% think they will... and no I don't 100% want it personally as I'm not a fan of the skill standardisation project thats been going on.

All I'm saying is that there are a few signs that it could now happen. The standardisation of skills and power budgets is the real key to make it theoretically workable.

Plus the likelihood of skyrim with the mages college, and the spell craft teacher NPC in the current DLC that somebody mentioned. Those things made it worth talking about as a new angle rather than just 'I want spellcrafting' as some posts in the past have written.

The devs are actually trolling though. Last year it was reusing assets from the old Spellcrafting preview in the Wrathstone trailer. This year there’s a Spellcrafter in the new zone.

It's "skillcrafting", not "spell" crafting, really.

But we'll see if anyone's actually playing the game when they finally get around to it.

    Just saying...

Dude... nice find. Seems to support the speculation. I just hope they get it right.

spellcraft, magical practices involving the casting of spells. AKA, not Spellcrafting.
Think along the lines of witchcraft.

I can't believe people still want this system, after experiencing one disastrous balance patch after another. The game would quite literally become an unplayable mess if they ever introduced spell crafting.

    This.
And everyone gonna play the same way cuz anyone s gonna take what is the most OP anyway.
We already have poor variety, don't reduce it even more.

    Hope this thing never come.

I think spell crafting or some system non dungeon DLC will be Q1 2020. Housing was the last big system update and we are due for a new one.

    Oh you poor soul

If it is in fact, a thing in 2020 you can be sure of the following:

    - It's going to be broken, performance and balance-wise
    - It's going to be a tedious grind
    - It's going to be nowhere as awesome as people are hoping for
    - It's gonna get stale after one patch cycle

They can't balance the basic abilities we already have, and you think spell crafting is even in the realm of possibility? I want whatever you are smoking.

I still wish for spellcrafting, as it is for me a core mechanics of TES games. Plus, we'd be able to create new spellcrafting furnishing, and they'd probably be awesome. And imagine if we could create consumable scrolls too that have to be slotted in the quickwheel...

I see three zones where spellcrafting would fit thematically: Winterhold, Battlespire and Apocrypha. So yes, spellcrafting in a Skyrim chapter is not that far-fetched an idea.
    My characters:
Main and crafter: A Breton magicka templar named Erwann Sorril
Alt 1: A Bosmer sorcerer named Tuuneleg
Alt 2: An Imperial dragonknight named Gaius Tullius Hastifer
    Alt 3: An Argonian vampire/nightblade named Observe-le-Xanmeer
Alt 4: A Nord werewolf/dragonknight named Sigurd Hurlevent
Alt 5: A Breton sorcerer named Gilian Sorril (he's Erwann's younger brother)
    Alt 6: A Khajiit nightblade named Jolan-dar
Alt 7: A Nord warden named Sigurmar Hurlevent (he's Sigurd's younger brother)
Alt 8: An Altmer templar named Oioriel
Alt 9: An Argonian stamina Warden named Danse-avec-les-Rainettes
Alt 10: A Redguard templar named Neemokh af-Corelanya
Alt 11: A Nord stamina sorcerer named Olga Écoute-Vent
Alt 12: A Breton magicka Warden named Ian Sorril
Alt 13: A Dunmer magicka necromancer named Ilmoran Dren
Alt 14: An Orc stamina necromancer named Norgol gro-Borziel
Alt 15: A Nord magicka necromancer named Thorgen Givresang
Alt 16: An Imperial magicka dragonknight named Publius Valeirus Hastifer (Just call him "Valerio" - he's Gaius younger troublemaker of a brother)
Main in NA (For collaborative events): A Breton magicka nightblade named Titouan Sorril (long-lost brother of Erwann and Gilian)

Lmao, a core mechanic that got taken out of Skyrim.

ESO already has a limited implementation of spellcrafting via alchemy, transmutation, enchanting, provisioning, mundus stones, champion passives, proc sets, weapon lines, guild lines, world lines, class abilities, etc.

I understand what people mean when they say "spellcrafting" - more like Skyrim. Maybe in the next version of ESO (if there is one) but that kind of thing has to be built in from conception.

The game is over 5 years old; the ship has sailed. I would much prefer ZOS focus on new/better content and improving the current experience - like fixing pvp lag and group finder, improved rewards, better and more community events, and so on.

What do you guys think spellcrafting should be?
Because we ask ZOS for it without giving any clue about what it means to us…
Should it cosmetic options?( skins for skills like the grey bear of the warden…)
Should it be like it was intended for eso at the beginning ? ( allowing us to add keywords to skills like:Ultimate, Enduring, Reduce Cost, Ritual, and AOE )
Should it replace the champion point system?( giving us passives and actives abilities)
I’m really curious about your answers because I’m kinda lost 😅

I really hope it will be like the system they showed at 2014 QuakeCon. Nick explained it well how it would work, how it would be balanced, and the video of how it would work looked great. I linked it below if you haven't seen it. It starts at 0:53:00.

But they also showed "Murkmire" footage and it wasn't what we ended up getting tho.
Since "TinyPic" closed, I can't post pic's, but I have one of datamined files labeled "Spellcrafting", so if anyone is good at datamining, they are in the game files. :)
P.S. I really miss Paul and Nick.... :)

Me too. They were really passionate about what they were doing. It also felt like we stopped being informed about what everyone was working on as soon as those guys left. Everything is so secretive now, with any hype towards upcoming content so narrowly focused into a one day Chapter reveal. I wish they would have more presentations like the Quakecon one above. Nothing since has ever been as cool and interesting as that.
