I got really unlucky tonight with my random normal.

Definitely the biggest challenge I've faced yet.

Going to watch some YouTube runs but thought I'd put a feeler here.

What exactly do I need to do when tanking the final boss here?

Basically just hold aggro on the boss (and later, the clones) and block. If you don't block, it's usually a 1 shot. If you're getting 1 shot through the block, you probably have too low resists or hp. There are some strategies for placing the lava pools in good places, but on normal those shouldn't be much of a problem.

However, if you were holding aggro and blocking the heavy attacks (surviving) and still having trouble, it's likely not a tank problem; it's likely a healer or dps problem. If the healer doesn't keep you healed after you get hit with the heavies, you're probably gonna wipe; and if the dps don't get the clones down fast enough, you'll probably get overwhelmed with 3 of them smacking you around.

The fight is chaotic enough that you loose focus on the true threats. Always be watching for his ranged heavy attack. Always be within a few paces from a pillar and pay attention to when he sucks in air for his shout. You hide behind pillars for that. No matter how crazy it gets, you have to keep one eye on those mechanics.

The stone atronarch is particularly important to taunt if I recall.

Phase 1: 3 bosses, 4 of y’all. Stick together and focus the mini bosses in this order, Minotaur, Warrior, Healer. Stick together, the Minotaur chain stun is the difference between life or death on vet. If you’re chained by the warrior guy, roll or move away, his aoe does a bit of damage but it’s fairly easy to get away from. The fight is fairly simple for a tank, hold the Minotaur wherever you feel comfortable while the dps drop him, range taunt the healer and taunt the warrior as well. It’s a fairly straightforward fight. Just coordinate with the group (even if it’s a pug) to focus the Minotaur, then the warrior, then the healer.

Phase 2: Best thing to do before this fight is get a mic or type in chat to determine roles and mechanics before the fight. Which dps is going to cleanse the lava? Which dps is going to stop the rock shower? Their really isn’t a lot of pressure damage wise on the dps so if you’re running a healer, have them focus you. Shards/bubbles help tremendously. And having them heal you to full health so you can allocate resources elsewhere makes a huge difference.

Part 1: every time I’ve tanked this fight I’ve held the boss in the middle and adjusted depending on where the lava is and how well my dps cleanse it. The boss had 2 main attacks, light attacks and a heavy 1 shot. It makes your job easy because you don’t have cones or interrupts or aoe attacks to worry about. It’s just the heavy attack. Best thing to do is wait to dodge or block. Depending on your sustain and healer, you can determine if you want to take the big hit health wise with a block. Or dodge the skill completely. Blocking is fairly easy, the boss does a slow wind up before he does the attack. I haven’t tanked it in awhile so I can’t give you an exact time, but for the first few times, count mentally and block the attack. Once you’ve got the timing down, work at dodging it. Falling rocks mech is easy to avoid, just step back and forth. Range taught the boss to keep him on you, and heavy attack if you can from range to get some resources back.

Part 2: the boss will split in 2. I can’t give an exact hp, but now is when the fight gets really fun. 1st things 1st, relax. You know the boss mechs. You know the only thing you need to worry about it the heavy attack. Keep them in the middle and continue to figure out that heavy attack timing. Remember, their light attacks do a bit of damage, but if your stay buffed and keep them low slashed, you can get away with staying unblocked to weave in a heavy. Keep your buffs up, keep the bosses debuffed and taunted, and adjust placement depending on the lava and how well the dps follow the mechs. Pop bubbles and synergize shards when/if you have the chance, and keep working to learn that heavy attack timing.

Part 3: the boss will spew out a 3rd boss which is much smaller. It is imperative the dps kill this boss as quick as possible and you grab taunt rather quickly seeing as he tends to have a thing for squishy dps’s right from the start. It has rather low hp but can pack quite a punch with the heavy. Remember how I kept saying to get the heavy attack timing down? This 3rd boss is why. The first two boss heavy attacks could be blocked or dodged. The 3rd boss must be dodged. Even with block you’ll be 1-shot. The quicker the 3rd boss goes down, the easier your job is. If you lose taunt, don’t worry. The dps can kite him. If they die to the one shot, it’s ok. You’ll make mistakes, and this dungeon in particular is not easy. Just get aggro back as soon as you can, and stay focused on holding them in the middle.

Block/roll the boss heavies, roll dodge the small bosses heavy attack. Focus on that timing, it’s delayed and that’s where most players mess up.

Once the small boss is down, the fight becomes much easier. Keep slipping in those heavy attacks, keep an eye on your buffs and debuff timers, and keep focus on the boss heavy attacks. Once the second boss is down, you’re home free. Standard tanking procedure until everything’s dead.

Hardest part about this fight is the delayed heavy by the bosses and sustain issues. Stay calm, the main heavy attack mechanic is very visually choreographed and you’ve got 2 bosses to figure out the timing of it. Communicate with your dps about mechanics before hand and if you have a healer, ask them to please focus you.

Hold the boss in the middle and adjust based on the lava. If the entire area becomes covered in lava and you have nowhere else to go? That’s on the dps/healer, not you.

Keep your buffs up, slip in heavies where you seem fit, and play selfish during the hectic parts. Understand you’ll *** up, you may get 1 shotted/lose aggro but you’re learning. See what killed you and avoid that next chance. Nail the heavy timing and you’ll be good. And if you’re pugging? Pray you get competent dps. Good luck in there!

    1. Taunt bosses
    2. Avoid lava flows (proximity)
    3. Avoid Meteors
    4. Pray RNG doesn't screw you on Lava Flow placement.

The main thing is to keep up block and taunt. Beyond that, be looking for the next semi-clear piece of real estate you can let your group move to.

Don't pin yourself in, and don't be afraid to use every square inch of the map.

    Thank you everyone.

I'm going to try and put this all to good use when I do a practice run with my guild some time in the near future.

I'll also refrain from doing random normal at midnight for the time being!

IF you're the tank, and the pug group has reasonable DPS..., and IF the pug DPS doesn't use the alters; then park next to the alter that interrupts the stomp/meteor mechanic. Just block there about in the alter radius, when you see the animation prompt...hit 'X' and interrupt (mouse look down at the dude's feet)... You should be able to get most the interrupts and hold the boss thereabouts by the alter. You can ignore the Lava, IF you have reasonable DPS that can work around it. You don't necessarily need to remove the lava. Tanking wise, you can range taunt the boss and avoid dangerous areas.

When he splits, be quick to grab both main and secondary enemy taunts. You can use the same alter trick to minimize the stomp/meteor mechanic. When you see the incoming 'heavy' attack, make sure have stamina to block both hits (main and secondary); than when the boss splits a third time. The DPS usually can beat down the little one (just range taunt it)

Once you've made it this far, you should be able to finish the secondary one off; then the main one for completion.

I tryed to do it in my erly 200 cp normal without real tanking gear and it was very difficult for the lava and have all copies taunted a ranged taunt helped a lot because they start runing around chasing the group they got separated and you have to run behind them with the lava so the undaunted taunt is very helpful I ended up quiting and have never been back so that is the only tip i can give you and then luck with the lava as other people have said sometimes you will not be able to do it due to the lava or one of the stones will fall on your head and kill you, so ranged taunt and some luck and good dps from the dps that is vital because you can tank to an extent.
