What if Scalebreaker Never Happened?

Lets be honest, all these crazy balance swings started because scalebreaker went and broke the game. So what if they had just not done the scalebreaker balance patch at all?

Would Dragonhold have been received better if it diddnt have to attempt to clean up the balance mess from scalebreaker?

I think a huge reason people are upset with dragonhold is because its another swing in the pendulum caused by the OG of bad patches, Scalebreaker. But aloot of those big changes were made to undo those big scalebreaker mistakes. If anything allot of changes are healier for the game *but not all*. Thoughts?

Gotta do something when they stopped the slowly climbing Champion Point system, it was a bandaid sure but when they capped it at 810 with no more incremental pushes, something has to fill that void.

*Looks at the racial changes in Wrathstone.*

    *Looks back at JackDaniell*

    *Actually reads Jack Daniel's username*

    Ah.

I do agree with you that if Scalebreaker never happened and we went from Elsweyr to this patch directly, there would have been a lot lesser community fatigue. However that does not change the fact, certain skills that were never issues got nerfed massively as an indirect result and got their indentities sacrificed.

A primary example would be Poison Injection. It had its direct damage part significantly decreased in Scalebreaker and lost 2/3rd of its execute bonus for the Scalebreaker. Now with the changes in Dragonhold, it has ended up with lesser DoT damage, lesser direct damage and way way lesser execute bonus than Elsweyr. It basically lost its indentity as the execute DoT and new execute scaling to direct damage as well makes little to fix that as the base damage is low that even at max bonus(that can't reached realistically) the damage is lesser than of a spammable.

Think the problems really started with morrowind. I want to use skills and have damage not run out of resources after 4 casts.

The majority of the Scalebreaker patch was ok, Wheels and Gil just decided that something had to be screwed up in order to ship it, and that fell down to I) Cast times on ults and II)A brainless DOT buff that no one even asked for.

Whats funny about that is stuff starting really going down hill when Gilliam was hired.

Or when Eric left... I mean, I know the community liked to use Wroble as their personal punching bag, but it's almost like Brian has an entirely different idea of how combat in ESO should feel.

This all began with Morrowind and the huge
    Sustain nerfs.

Since then it’s been a downward spiral and Murkmire I remember being a terrible patch too

I look at the skills on Alcast's magicka sorcerer build before Scalebreaker and the new Dragonhold build and they are exactly the same, so it actually is as though Scalebreaker and the dots meta never happen.

I don't think you can blame the changes on Scalebreaker. Every patch seems to have strange balance changes that confuse 90% of the community.

Idk Jack. Scalebreaker's changes were trying to fix things, too. Performance, for one. Every class has to be able to do everything at every level, for another. And balance, of course. Always.

Every nerf we've hated for the last three years was trying to fix something. I think the reason many people are so upset with this patch is they're just tired from trying to keep up with all the fixing. And there's more coming, since two-and-a-half classes and at least once category of skill haven't been "standardized" yet.

Also worth remembering, we get the nerfs because the dev goal, long term, is to prevent uncontrolled power creep. We already got some of the CP limit going up every quarter, but if they simply buffed things that were underperforming, we'd get into a position where nothing was difficult. So, instead, things that are overtuned get brought back into line.
