This doesn't even make sense to me. Why would they do this to everyone? And they make it for a limited time too!?! This is just straight crap!

You have to stock up on Crowns when they go on sale and not wait until there’s necessarily something you want to buy if you don’t want to pay the regular price. Sales are inducements to buy, as are the release of new items, so it wouldn’t make sense for ZOS to do both at once.

If you really want this house (be sure to preview if first to be sure it meets your expectations), then go for it. It probably won’t be available again for a while I would expect. In any case, you can be prepared for next time. :)

Tastes of course vary but it is my opinion the coolest house ever can be purchased in game with gold.

That said yeah you gotta save up crowns and plan ahead for these types of things. I subscribe six months at a time and I know it can be tough sitting on crowns waiting for the chance something cool might eventually appear.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

People have been asking for a vampired themed house for a long time...so ZOS finally makes one, and they make it a mega-mansion that is now the most expensive purchase in the game. Seriously ZOS...screw you.

@Taleof2Cities For the love of the divines, why? lol

To OP, Zos ceased doing sales every time the wind changed direction as it literally devalued everything. Now Zos seems to limit sales to twice a year. The idea is probably either stock up (and over buy) when on sale or pay full price at times like this if you really want the limited time offer.

Think you are right about the reduction in sale times - but have been trying to remember when last sale was - or if there is a pattern to when occur but can’t find much.

I actually think it's pretty ugly. Wouldn't wanna live in the place like that. Mad architect did, and look where he ended up.
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
It lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills,
It comes first and follows after,
    Ends life, kills laughter.

If I remember correctly, I think the last sale on Crowns was sometime this past summer.
I only remember because I had just spent money on crowns, and they popped the sale up about a week later, just a couple of days after Wraithhome had been data-mined, which irritatingly managed to entice me to buy more crowns so I could afford what I assumed (correctly) would be a not-inexpensive Notable House; a house that I then had to wait several months for, past its initial presence on the PTS.

I have my stupid house now, but it feels anti-climactic after so long a wait, especially since it just so happens to coincide with me starting to get bored with the game over the past month. It frakking figures.

Lakemire xanmeer was the same price. So wraithhome isn’t unique in that aspect

While I do not pay much attention to crown sales, do not buy them, I think the approximant times have been around the anniversary of the games launch (April) and near Christmas. Zos had held that for a couple years after they reduced how many sales they had each year.

If you are the type of person who will purchase from the crown store, especially these houses, it is best to stock up when they are on sale. Then again you might not find anything you want to purchase for a long time.

The last Crown sale was in early August or thereabouts. I started playing ESO in July and it was not long after Crowns were on sale for up to 40% off.

If sales are too frequent it becomes senseless to ever offer them at any other price, no? I don’t defend all of ZOS’s sales practices but this seems reasonable, although I understand OP’s disappointment.

The only two things I've wanted this year (apart from Ezabi and Fezez) were the watcher pet and this house. Well, sucks to be me I guess. Thanks ZoS.

Having said that, the house is too damn big again, anyway.

I always stock up on a ton of crowns every sale so I have more than enough sitting there for anything. I picked up Wraithhome furnished for my Necromancers and furniture packs to boot. I love the look of the home and the location right by a wayshrine.

Yeah talk about some 1st world problems. People don't believe me when I tell them that a virtual doll house in a video game costs $140. They think I'm just exaggerating. When i insist that this garbage is actually happening, I always hear "well, there's a sucker born every minute" in response. Can't even argue there.

As has been pointed out to me, being on a forum for a video game means the only problems discussed here are going to be 1st world problems.

I dare say most people who can afford it have indulgences they like to spend money on. It is no better to spend that money on designer stuff, going to a concert, getting a fancy meal, etc., etc. Being virtual does not make it somehow more frivolous when we’re talking about entertainment; different people enjoy different things.

Fair enough. Finding value in life is certainly subjective. For me and everyone I've talked with about it though, it seems completely bonkers to spend more than twice the amount of the actual game on these things.

Kudos to the marketing team...I guess :/

I get that. As much as I am enjoying ESO housing, $140 is more than I can see spending on any one house. I would say never but feel like I’d doom myself to eat my words, lol! I do spend a bit on housing broadly though because I enjoy the time I spend creating things and enjoying those of myself and others. :)

What boggles me is spending hundreds on crates in the hope of getting something, usually a mount at that. It boggles me that anyone finds that worth it, but to each their own. For me, spending $20 on a mount skin in GW2 felt like quite an indulgence, but I liked some enough $20-worth. I don’t think any game could make a mount (or house) that I would enjoy $1000-worth even if I could afford it!

None of my characters are evil enough for that house... and they're all vamps. I don't think suitable decorations exist ingame for it, what would you put, craft stations?

"Here's where the Lord of the Nether Realm makes his Fishy Sticks?"

That house is not where an adventurer lives, but where whatever the adventurer is going to fight and kill lives.

So, you can get a couple of friends, go clear VOM, then live there for a few hours for free. Want to "live there" again tomorrow? Just go run the dungeon again. Or you can go "live" in COH the same way for a day.

Then go back to Humblemud and eat paste.

Or just travel to a guildmate's who got it and pretend it's yours.

JK, would make a great project and suspect the "furnishings" would be mostly all lighting.

It’s not for my particular taste either but then I feel that way about most of the daedric furnishings, which are what would work best there, or at least would be the obvious choice. I do look forward to seeing what others do with the place. :)

ErinM31 you sound like my mother, lol. Anyways, the problem I have is that with most everything they sell is "meh" at best they hit me with this bad*** mofo that's sooooo dope and tbh wasn't expecting something this cool!
Why not leave it in the crown store permanently? Ppl would save money ( or make sure ESO plus was update ) every month so I ( we) could be able to purchases. One way or another it's money in the bank!

Well, then you should listen to your mother! ;) I know, I’m not the best about it myself and when I have Crowns I’m more likely to spend them even if I *intended* to keep them for the day Tel Galen is available again... Companies know this, of course, and therefore have limited sales. I think we must assume it works overall since many companies have been doing it for a long time, but surely some sales are lost even as impulse purchases are gained. And from what I’ve been hearing ZOS does wait too long in between things being available — what’s the point if players change their mind or even come and go in that time?

In any case, now you have the difficult decision of how much it is worth to you...
