Can't wait for update 24 (change to Crit Surge)

I'm so sick of having to cast Structured Entropy to get Major Sorcery. I can't wait for it to be added back into Crit. Surge in less than 2-weeks when update 24 comes out. Then I will have another more useful and fun skill I can slot instead of that stupid single-target DOT that SE is. Hopefully I'll enjoy playing mag sorc a little more again like I did a couple months ago when I could use mostly AOE DOTS to melt mobs in dungeons and trials.

I'm probably going to stick with my single-bar play style, so having that skill slot open will be even more important for me. I'll just have to decide between Boundless storm (the resists will help offset the loss of the small heal I got from Structured Entropy), I like the speed increase, and it's a (small) AOE DOT. Or I'll use Lightning flood again (even though it was nerfed) because it's the 2nd best AOE DOT skill for mag sorc besides Wall of Elements (and morphs). I imagine other mag sorc players will do something similar. Unless of course you enjoy going around just pressing the same buttom for SE over and over again just DOTing everyone to death (even though it's a horribly slow way to kill things.)

Just unslot it? You're already giving up on almost half of your damage potential by choosing not to use your second bar, the Major Sorcery buff only increases your overall damage by around 8%, it's not worth stressing over.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Yeah not really happy about the damage nerfs or cost increases of things of course. I haven't heard anyone who is. But I don't have sustain issues because I mostly heavy attack. And once I have the Maelstrom lightning staff the damage I do with those will be about as high as it possibly can be because of the gear and skills I use. I can already easily do just about any content in the game and things will be even better soon. And I don't mind giving up some damage not using the 2nd bar. I'd rather relax and enjoy my games than stress over someone else having higher dps than me. Game time is fun time for me, I'm not one to turn it into the olympics of who can press buttons the fastest. To each their own I guess.

I don't really find it powerful. Maybe for single target DOTs it is. But IMO single target DOTs are pretty worthless as we whole. I'm used to the old mag sorc AOE skills that could kill whole mobs quickly. That's what being a mag sorc meant until the dev destroyed what class identity there was left with the endless nerfs and changing what skills did. Their goal was obvious and clear for anyone who read the notes, to make fights take longer. They said they wanted people to have to worry about sustain and more defensive sets rather than just 100% dps and it definitely worked. It's why people are out there farming sets like PFG and just about everyone except me is complaining about sustain because they don't want to heavy attack. I don't like bar-swapping and just refuse to do it basically. I don't care if I lose some dps. I can pass just about everything anyway. Bar swapping and light attack weaving makes the game a chore instead of fun for me. If you enjoy doing that great. I'm not trying to tell you to change the way you play. The heals from SE are so slow that they don't help keep me alive, I tried it. They're a waste of time. And having to cast that stupid single-target DOT over and over again not only isn't fun, but I can kill things 3-4 times faster just heavy attacking. That's without using other skills that compliment my build. If some of you like the SE skill and use it, great. I'm not trying to talk you out of it. There are much better and faster ways to kill things and heal, so for me, that skill makes no sense at all. And pretty soon all the mag sorc like me will have a convenient way of getting Major Sorcery again and that skill will be immediately off the bar. Good riddance. I hope the dev doesn't essentially force a whole class to use a crap skill again by moving a major buff to it and making no other way (that makes sense) for the class to get the buff. They pissed off a large part of the player base and maybe for once they're listening to use and putting things back how they were, which was better.

In my opinion using an expensive-to-make potion which lasts for 50ish seconds to get a buff is not something that I want to do. If it works for you, awesome. I don't feel like spending half my gold on potion reagents or having to watch a buff countdown timer while I'm trying to focus on winning a fight.

@nerf, I don't think you read my comments, or at least didn't understand them. My complaint is about the dev removing a buff from a skill that almost everyone in the class used because it was the only good self-heal for the class. Pretty much every mag sorc wanted/used that great self-heal and therefore had a viable/inexpensive/easy way of getting Major Sorcery. The dev, for no reason other than saying they're making changes, removed the buff and tied it to a skill that, at that time, very few mag sorc were using. And for players who only PVE like me, basically none were using. There are hundreds of complaints on this forum about the change. (in several threads, go look if you don't believe me)

I don't like bar-swapping and I refuse to weave because it's just not a fun way to play the game IMO. So not using all skill slots available is irrelevant. If I was forced to play that way, I wouldn't enjoy playing the game and would honestly switch to some other game. So all you meta trolls please waste your time elsewhere, because I doubt this post even applies to you. You wouldn't even choose mag sorc. because it's not the best dps. Go troll the posts where people are dicussing how to raise their dps by 10-points on the 6mil dummy, because that's where you belong.

You say you don't bar swap and don't light attack weave, yet you say you can complete almost all of the content in the game. Can you clarify exactly what you can't clear? Because it sounds like all vet content is off limits to you unless you are getting completely carried. I don't understand why you care about a change to one skill when you refuse to use basic/core game mechanics.
  • malistorr
    malistorr
    ✭✭✭✭
Those are not basic/core game mechanics, they are elite mechanics for people trying to get the best dps possible. You and your friends may think they are basic since you all do them, but I guarantee you're not in the majority of people playing this game. You associate with all meta-chasers and believe that your way of playing the game is the only viable way. Many people don't care about passing vet dungeons. They want to do all the single-player content in the game and pass the dungeons on normal mode and they're ok with that. Many people like me do not PVP at all either. That is also for people trying to turn game-time into a competition. But guess what, many people play games to relax and have fun instead.

I'm just finishing my build soon and I bet I'll have at least 30K dps with my casual play style that's not using all the tools at my disposal. I have mid-20s without even using the Maelstrom staff, which is going to increase my heavy attack damage by probably another 25% based on my build. I have not tried several of the vet dungeons at all, but any I've tried, I've passed. And I die a lot less than average in all the PUG groups I'm in and I probably have better than average dps as well. And if other people having higher dps than me in the trials is considered me being "carried". I'm ok with that. They can brag about their parse and I'll have fun and relax playing the game the way I like to. It's such a shame that some in the community are so intolerant. They get mad at and troll people who don't play exactly like them. Someone mentioning other play styles is like a personal attack to them I guess. Really sad. If not making constructive comments on a post, why post at all? Guess it's a symptom of people not having something more meaningful in their life to fill their time with.

If light attack weaving/bar swapping were the only way to play the game, most kids and seniors wouldn't be able to play it just because of lack of physical ability to work the controls the way that's required. Even many adults 40+ have arthritis or other physical issues just because of age and/or occupational wear and tear. It's good that not everyone has to be a 25yo meta-chaser to play this game. I'm sure the dev appreciates the millions of dollars the rest of the community provides to support the game.

Pretty obvious actually. To share my displeasure with the dev for forcing a whole player class to use a skill that many people don't like at all and never wanted to use, and how I'm happy that they listened to the hundreds or thousands of people who complained about the change, and are changing it back.

I also mentioned what 2 skills I'm considering using in place of SE and opened the door for other mag sorc to comment about what they plan to use as well, instead of SE. I also mentioned how forcing mag sorc to use a single-target DOT ruined what little class identity we had as a mag sorc. Many people (not everyone) played the class as someone who runs around spamming lightning AOE skills and melt all the dungeon mobs. The change to surge made that much harder to do.

Sorry you didn't like the post. If you're not mag sorc it doesn't even apply to you. You could and should choose to just move on instead of wasting your time and ours making off-topic posts that don't contribute in any way to the actual topic. That goes for all you trolls who get offended every time someone talks about a play style that doesn't match your own. If you want to talk about how awesome you are with your bar-swapping and weaving, go find a post about that. Nobody cares if you have higher dps or don't like my play style. This post was not supposed to be about that at all. But your irrelevant comments turned a post about mag sorc skills into a bunch of petty bickering. Great job!

low skill players should improve their skill/mechanics knowledge instead

First off you will have to wait until the update comes out for any and all changes it will bring. Some would like to wait even longer but that is a different story.

Second, if you are only using one bar you are already nerfing your damage so the major sorcery buff as big of a loss as you seem to think it is.

I agree with OP and am looking forward to having major sorcery from surge instead of SE again. I run a matriarch (1 pet) AoE heavy attack solo build made for survival, sustain then damage in that order. I love the build and playstyle although I hate that it has been badly nerfed (loss of major sorcery from power surge, nerf of matriarch, nerf of wall and flood). I do use both bars. To get SE on my bar dropped Boundless. I'm looking forward to dropping SE and getting Boundless back on my bar.
