Breton or High elf

Magsorc, pvp

Do people test these things? what is better? there is gotta be a yes/no answer after testing.
By theory with Breton i get 100 mag regen which is about the same as 600 per 5 seconds. 7% cost reduction. now its better than 250 spell damage isnt it? with magsorc you have to spam shields, that reduction will let you slot more spell damage glyphs.. and thinking of the extra spell resistance that Breton has... it takes it by a mile in theory.
Currently im an High elf thinking of using a race change to breton as shields are super costy this patch, making it impossible to sustain for long with people's cost increase poisons and siphoning. even with 2.2k regen. the cost of shields is ridicules.

What are your thoughts?

It really depends on personal preference, you can build around a races weaknesses. With High Elf you build for sustain, and with Breton you build for damage.

My PvP magsorc is a High Elf, but, honestly, Bretons are a better pick for PvP. The Spell Resit and Mag Discount buffs are more useful.

So far as it goes, I wouldn't plan to race change a character, as that's fairly pricey. But, it's your money (or your free tokens from earlier this year.)

High elf has given me best pvp results. I like the stam regen passive. I try to control the pace of fights with positioning and line of sight so I still spec more into dmg and less into regen.

My Altmer magsorc is my main :)

I didn't see much of a change honestly I have a magicka pool between 40-44 k (depending on buff) with 2.5 mag recovery
I even use light armour shield to buff, but the damage is just so good

    Usually the rule of thumb:

If you want more dps with all elements - Altmer

If you want more damage with fire only mage - Dunmer

(note that both have nice passives for stamina, which is useful for break fee, roll dodge, block - as a mage you lack stam so...)

If you struggle with sustain yeah - Breton

So it all comes down to just pick whichever race you want to play the most. They will all do well in one aspect anyway.

Edit: I just realised that I listed my 3 fav races from TES :D

Either one works. Your style of play has more to do with the choice than the stats and raw numbers do.

For the record, I have both an Altmer and a Breton MagSorc.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

More sustain is always the better option in my opinion but high elf has its advantages too. You'll perform well with either. Happy choices, OP!

I play a Breton on all of my Mag Characters, that would be my go to. The passives allow you to build for damage over sustain and the resistances are a nice added bonus.

I think it can also depend on role. I run Breton on my magicka templar healer and the sustain works well for that role. I have both races on Magicka DPS and I build around that to where they are pretty close to each other.

Breton - because elves in ESO are fugly.

    JK

I have both - play whatever you like...if you are that good and that meta, test both yourself and see which one is 'better'.

This is the best answer in here.

While cost reduction is better for burst dps and spell resist is nice (Bretton) the High Elf offers nice sustain in regen and some extra damage source,

However, in the end the rest of your build can adjust for most of this easily. So in the end it really comes down to where you want to start. Both races are nice.

Edit: player skill makes the biggest difference in PvP.

I actually made a thread for what race people chose for their MagSorcs. The majority is High Elf, but Breton was right after that.

I chose High Elf at first, but going Breton in another faction.

I haz both. I prefer my Bretons for PVP. I used to prefer High Elves for PVE, now they seem to play about the same to me. Most of my Bretons are better looking than most of my Elves.

    So it's gotta be Nords.

I can sustain well with my magnb breton, killing is deffinitely harder, lots of kill assist though.

I can kill like 2 to 3 per match with my magnb altmer, if I cant kill it before running out of magicka I am dead, few kill assist though.

Same set up, julianos, fort brass, chudan.

    Same bar setup,
Swallow soul, killers blade, delibitate, enthrophy, merciless, incapacitate.

    What are your thoughts?

Spell Recharge seems to be fairly useful in PvP, because getting caught in a disabling effect without enough stamina to break free can really suck. When I'm on my High Elf as opposed to my other stamina starved characters I notice that occurrence happening less frequently.

I'm not suggesting which race is better for you (I don't even have a magic sorcerer, let alone do I know how you play). But I do think you should at least consider spell recharge as factor instead of dismissing it entirely from your comparisons. It's worth at least taking into account IMHO.

It's not as pronounced as it used to be, but that spell resist buff Bretons get makes them shockingly durable.
