For all that they're Bigger™ these days, games are still niche. And TES lore isn't nearly as big as Warcraft & the other games that have been made into movies, and very very few of those have done well.
(re: TES lore - sure, lots of people may have played Oblivion - Skyrim - ESO. But how many of those are actually lore geeks who care about that stuff? How many of them are people who don't bother to read the books on the shelves, just clicking on them for the skill gain? Etc.)1 -

True that. The only document case of "worse over-acting than William Shatner".
While I like the idea of seeing Tamriel on the big screen, it's just a fact that the vast majority of video-game based movies just plain suck.2 -

At times, he seemed like he wasn’t fully evil, it was just being forced on him. I wish they didn’t announce the names of spells they were casting (“Dimension door”) as D&D players knew what they were."Get off my lawn!"1 -

Actually, probably not. Historically game-inspired movies (actually most of inspired-by-something movies) have deviated significantly from the base and also not done well.
They'd have to step up their game a heck of a lot. And looking at Summerset and Murkmire especially, I don't think the current crew can do it.
Plus you need to somehow cram in an introduction to the IP for people who don't know it at all. It'd be tough.
A miniseries on Netflix to start might help -- introduce the IP, gauge interest, then try to do a movie.
