Starting out the game, question regarding classes

Hello guys! So I'm starting out the game again and I'm set on playing a stamina and a magicka class. These will be used for both PVE and PVP, mainly dps but can use the mag class to heal.

For the stamina class I'm thinking DK, mainly because of all the fire and that juicy leap skill that looks so awesome.
For the magicka class the warden, because the class looks so damn good with all the ice and nature.

So appart from the looks, is this a viable and versatile class duo to main when the next patch hits or should I consider another class? Keep in mind I'm not trying to push the best numbers, just want to be viable enough to complete harder content like trials and such.

Thanks for your response!

How good a player are you? If you're very good, you can make anything viable. If not, magicka warden wouldn't be high on most people's list of recommendations. That said, ZoS seems to be trying to make magden's more competitive.

Also, do you enjoy spending a lot of your in-combat time buffing? I don't really, which makes me not enjoy some otherwise interesting-looking magden build concepts.

I'm not a very good player, but trying to get there! I don't mind the buffing tbh, just wondering if I can compete with some "better" classes

Ever considered going the opposite way? Stamwarden and MagDK?
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Current easiest class to play is the templar. I've found the petsorc to also be very user friendly. For stamina, I main a stamblade and have recently been playing around with a stamnecro. Taking some time to figure out the necro. I think the stamblade is super fun to play with, though the rotation is dynamic and it took a bit to figure out the playstyle.

Stam DK is a so-so class to play in PVE. I played it for a long, long time before switching to a stamblade. Great sustain, great tankiness, not so great in the DPS in comparison to a nightblade or templar. Its been improved in the last year, but it lacks things like an execute and the rotation is, well, dull. On the flip side, its a very tanky, viable class for PVP. Big upside is that you can easily turn a DK into a tank if you later feel that need.

Never played a warden, so can't comment.

EDIT: wanted to clarify one thing about the Stam DK. I assume you are talking about running the DK as a DPS. Its a great class for tanking.

Funny you should say that because I was reading some stuff and I came to the conclusion that that would be a better setup. I'd still have the themes of the classes (actually reinforced because of the pure fire of a magdk). My only problem is that then I wouldn't have a healer to run with, wouldn't it be better to run a Magplar instead of the dk in this case? Or is the magdk a wanted class for.pve.runs?

Also, stamden, is it a good pve.class? I know that for pvp.they're amazing

Hum, PvE isn’t really my forte. I played a bit and got most everything I wanted from dungeons but then switched to straight pvp. You probably could pve heal all the vet dungeons as a DK but it would have its own challenges you’d have to figure out because they’re uncommon. Forget about ever being allowed to heal trials. From a pvp perspective a DK healer would work... I think. I’m going to try it this patch.

People have different perspectives on what they want from their class. I like being able to play multiple roles and stamwarden is the most versatile class in the game.

One thing I’d STRONGLY suggest is to make one of every character you think you’d ever be interested in and fill every character slot but one. Level them to 4, transfer them 10k gold and park them in front of a stable. It takes at least 2 months of speed upgrades on a new character for them to have max horse speed.

Choose a theme you like too. Read the write up about a class you like and then once you know you like how they play choose a main. Abilities and balance change but the theme shouldn’t.
